Infinite Decks of the Week – What to Play Besides Loki and Shuri?

In a sea of Loki, a few small lights shine through. Find out what decks you should play to get to Infinite despite the overwhelming tide!

In this Infinite Decks of the Week article series, we round up decks from the community that players used to reach the coveted Infinite rank in Marvel Snap each week. From the most strong builds to off meta ones, the various builds highlight how the meta is evolving and how players are using their card collection to their advantage.

Overview of the Week

The first week of the season can create very mixed feelings among the community, especially when a new card is pushing a new archetype to the moon. We can quickly see three kinds of players emerge on the climb to the Infinite rank:

  • Those who play the new deck and are looking to both benefit from its strength, as well as the new experience it brings.
  • Those who remain on the known powerhouses from last season and are looking to get the climb to Infinite done before testing new synergies.
  • Those who are doing their own thing or trying to adapt to the metagame and are testing various decks and potential counter picks.

Obviously, the last category tends to be much more rare compared to the first two. Adapting to the environment takes time, and you never know how a test might go. You could just pick up a bad deck and be back to square one after a dozen disappointing games. As for the other two kinds, they seem to be rewarded for their choice, at least when it comes to reaching Infinite pretty fast.

Loki has pushed the Big Hands archetype to be the deck to beat in just a few days, one of the most memorable performance by a Season Pass card since Zabu back in January. As for the players who picked comfort, Shuri Sauron (or Shuri Kitty if you like that one more) has been the only deck that is able to match Loki‘s numbers this early in the season.

But, since both these decks are already well known and posted in almost any other article you might have seen today, let’s focus on our third category of gamers: the creative ones!

Yes, a lot of people got a quick Infinite with a different deck than the two current juggernauts, so let’s give them the recognition they deserve. Hela Discard, Cerebro 3, Destroy, Iron Patriot, Junk, Agatha… Our list of archetypes this week is pretty long – although some of these are recognized as strong archetypes in their own right. Therefore, after we cover the solid archetypes you should not forget about, let’s take a closer look at the more discreet decks that could help you sneak in an early Infinite.

Regularly ranked high in our weekly tier lists, these three had very little attention around them during the start of the season. Sure, the Snaps and Retreats might be a little more difficult to figure out compared to the previous season (Loki tends to create a very uncertain environment), but, as Coco4 put it in their tweet, you can always play this match up safely and take risks against the other decks. This is particularly true for Destroy and Hela because both decks want to enforce their game plan onto their opponent first and foremost. With those decks, you need to make sure your play patterns cannot be tampered with, which usually leads to a higher score than your opponent. This strategy is often very good early in the season. It allows you to adopt a similar strategy in most games, which alleviates the need to adapt to every opponent you match against.

However, going this route also pushes you to master your Snaps and Retreats; they will determine how fast you climb. This season, with Loki being the most likely foe you will be paired up against, other proactive decks have been considered much weaker than they typically are. But, if you manage to find a very synergistic deck you are comfortable with enough to leverage the most important mechanic in the game, you should have a shot at hitting Infinite fairly quickly.

C3r3bro is The Best Solution to Loki So Far

In addition to the several decks mentioned above, C3r3bro is probably the one with the most convincing resume so far. Not only has it been shared across lots of content creators (which have contributed to making the deck popular pretty quickly), it also got great reviews from the many who tested it. The biggest reason for this success is the inclusion of cards that can mitigate The Collector, Loki‘s strongest ally so far. With Shadow King, Valkyrie, or Shang-Chi at its disposal, Cerebro has plenty of tools to greatly reduce the amount of points on a lane. Also, Killmonger helps with Quinjet, while the very synergistic nature of the deck limits how much damage Loki can do when stealing your deck.

While it isn’t the only deck shared across the community as a potential solution to Loki‘s dominance, C3r3bro appears to have a great mix of tools. In particular, the tech cards atop the curve are very important, and they also do well against Destroy, Shuri, and Patriot Surfer since these decks also attempt to grow the power of their cards. The rest of the deck is more up in the air right now, with Snowguard, Armor, Luke Cage, and other three power cards mentioned as solid inclusions. There is also a Discard variation that is slowly picking up momentum, and I’m sure we’ll have a chance to discuss it in the near future if it keeps on progressing the way it is now.

Junk Limits Loki’s Space

The Junk archetype has been around for a very long time in Marvel Snap. If you look at the list, you’ll notice the youngest cards in there are Titania and Sentry, both of which released back in December 2022. However, the archetype never really picked up, apart from when it was a solid counter in the golden age of Galactus. With Destroy being very popular during most of the summer, trying to clog the opponent’s board was a bit of a lost cause.

With Destroy losing a lot of momentum lately, both because of Armor and a shiny new card to have fun with, Junk has more space to exist. As an even bigger upside, Loki Big Hand tends to have a lot of cheap power cards to play (Mirage, Cable, Snowguard…), which makes it kind of simple to clog one of their lanes in the mid-game.

I have not tried this myself, so we’ll have to take Charm’s word for it. Either way, this deck looks refreshing for sure!

Agatha Harkness Gets an Early Infinite Rank

Agatha Harkness isn’t a particularly bad card in Marvel Snap, and she has a unique archetype attached to her. She is typically associated with farming resources once in the Infinite rank, or at least tends to reach that rank much later in the season. Apparently, Loki has changed the fortune around the card and made it a week one Infinite deck.

The synergy is there, for sure. Loki will get Agatha Harkness out of your hand so you can regain control, similar to how Lady Sif does it. Also, if you just play Quinjet and The Collector, Agatha can’t really mess up the first two turns. We might consider this a Loki deck with extra steps, and it might need some more time to get tested before you have to start making decisions.

Undoubtedly, this deck is worse than the Loki Big Hands archetype. But, if you enjoy Loki and want a different way to use the card, Agatha Harkness appears to be one of those creative brews that you could have a lot of fun with. It will also makes you better at Snapping.

Closing Words

Loki took over Marvel Snap over the first few days, and there is no denying that. But reaching Infinite has never been impossible – even when some decks are clearly stronger than everything else. Sure, you can pick up that deck and probably get on the fast track to the Infinite rank. But you get the exact same rewards when you accomplish it at the end of the season, if we’re being honest.

You can also see this as a challenge, a new environment you have to solve, and reaching a certain goal is how you solve it. In this article, we took a look at how some players have managed to tackle this puzzle. Some of them even used Loki in a creative way alongside Agatha Harkness. I’m sure there are other ways to do it as well, and Loki should reduce in popularity as more counters emerge in the future. The climb might get easier when we look at it in week two or three.

Until then, we shouldn’t stop ourselves from congratulating those who made it already, and we can wish the best to those still trying to get there. No matter which strategy you picked, I hope you make it so I can feature you in this series. To make sure I don’t miss it, come tell me on the Marvel Snap Zone community Discord, or use my Twitter page where I share decks and biased opinions about the game.

Good Game Everyone.
