The Abbey Featured Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

The best Marvel Snap decks and strategy guide for the Featured Location, The Abbey: First to put exactly 2 cards here draws a card.

The Featured Location for the next 24 hours is The Abbey: First to put exactly 2 cards here draws a card. This is a new Location for Marvel Snap’s October 2023 season, Bloodstone. For 24 hours, it has a 50% chance of showing up in games.

Players who strategically build around the location or counter the decks that do so can have an advantage over their opponents! Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are for the new meta!

Strategy and General Tips

The Abbey represents an opportunity to get an extra card draw, which is the most powerful effect in Marvel Snap! So how do we ensure we activate and benefit from the effect as much as possible? Unlike other “early fill” locations, The Abbey requires you have exactly 2 cards there. This increases the range of decks which can work with the location, as you are not locked into the power at the location.

Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, and Jeff the Baby Land Shark remains the best synergy, as you can play these down, fill as early as turn 2, and then aim to continue buffing the cards. Combining this with Elsa Bloodstone in a Movement or Flood style deck creates a way to fulfill the requirement and have things to do with the extra card.

Usually we use these locations to find combinations which win the game. Nebula is an excellent 1 drop for this followed with another strong 1 or 2 drop. This will help you get card draw and potentially support decks looking for certain combinations. Thanos can also fulfill this very easily and can include 5 Cost and 6 Cost cards which you draw into.

Destroy is the other synergy which is normally great for these early fill strategies but in this case as it is only 2 cards, it is not as strong in theory. If we consider The Phoenix Force decks though we can trigger the requirement early and be more likely to draw the other cards we need.

The best direction is likely to go with an Elsa Bloodstone deck as we can meet the requirement early and then use Elsa and the other cards which scale to add more power later on, and draw into more cards which scale. No specific combinations are being sought here but we can easily access enough strong cards to put enough power down.

Another direction to take is to try and use exactly 2 high quality 1 drops to get the extra card draw, we then draw into cards like Professor X, Evolved Hulk and the star of the show Alioth which can result in checkmate situations.

The combination we want to draw is Mobius M. Mobius and Wave here, and we want to limit the game as much as we can in the lead up to this play.

One deck that wants to draw but cannot normally access and also wants to play two cards exactly on locations, is The Phoenix Force. The goal is Human Torch on 1 and Carnage on 2 if you can and if the Location flips on 3 play Human Torch and Carnage exactly on 3. This gets you one card deeper into the deck and more likely to draw The Phoenix Force and then be able to play for Arnim Zola or Nimrod more consistently also.

Lower series players may want to explore Move. We can fill the location early whilst activating key movement synergies, giving you room in the location again and being more likely to draw power cards like Hulkbuster and Heimdall.
