White Palace Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

The best Marvel Snap decks and strategy guide for the Featured Location, White Palace: Copy the highest-Cost card in your opponent’s hand.

The Featured Location for the next 24 hours is White Palace: Copy the highest-Cost card in your opponent’s hand. This is a brand new Location added for Marvel Snap’s December 2023 Season, Hellfire Gala. For 24 hours, it also has a 50% chance of showing up in games.

Players who strategically build around the location or counter the decks that do so can have an advantage over their opponents! So, what will you play?

Strategy and General Tips

White Palace is the last location of the Hellfire Gala season, and it has a simple effect. The location copies your opponent’s highest-Cost card in hand – the exact same effect as White Queen. As a location, however, it will have a bigger impact than playing White Queen in your deck, and there are certain considerations and decks that can help you play on the Ladder during this location’s time in the spotlight.

Decks that benefit from extra cards in hand are the obvious synergy, so Loki and Devil Dinosaur are two build-around cards that can benefit greatly. Unfortunately, the best deck to take into this location is pretty clear: Loki. You want your hand to remain full, can reduce the cost of cards in other ways, and play really well into decks that want to empty their hand as well. This combination leads me to a fairly cut-and-dry recommendation. If you can play Loki, go for it; it synergizes with everything this location is looking to do.

Another concern the location raises is the potential to block draws. It is a small risk for many decks, but, if you’re a deck that doesn’t play cards often early in the game, all locations that add cards can result in this outcome. Playing decks that run the risk of filling the hand if they don’t play cards on Turns 2 and 3 is riskier due to this, but not impossible. Just keep in mind during the location that you’re more likely to end up with an extra card in hand than normal.

Additionally, the effect is symmetrical, so playing decks with key finisher cards could be riskier since you can accidentally give them to your opponent. Devil Dinosaur, for example, could be given to your opponent, which leads to an awkward situation where both players know the finisher that is coming. You could try to do something really cute by playing Agatha Harkness. This could result in some crazy end of the season games since it is guaranteed to be your highest-Cost card, thus ensuring the location always gives it to your opponent.

One card that may be an easy modification for your deck is Quinjet. This one card will take one energy off what is likely to be a high value card. This small inclusion could swing more games than expected if you want to take something other than Loki or a hard counter into this location.

Loki is the main deck at the moment that is easily improved by this location. The location gives you a way to keep your hand full and the value from the card can also be important in some matches – especially now that we are looking to build Loki in a way that allows for flexibility when you don’t draw the titular card. For the location, the build leans into the Quinjet synergy by playing Agent Coulson and Quinjet instead of other power cards. This allows you to find ways to win with the extra cards when you don’t draw Loki. Beast and Falcon stay in the deck to pick the cheap cards back up if you need to quickly fill your hand for Loki on Turn 4 or Turn 5 as well.

Plan A is Loki, Plan B is Quinjet, and the supporting package is Shang-Chi and Enchantress. These two cards are excellent with Zabu and can be played easily for three energy, which gives them a massive impact in the current meta. Reading when you need to skip on the Loki play to drop one of these two cards is the key to mastering Loki in the current meta. It can be difficult, but, as a rule of thumb, if you are behind it’s often not correct to go for the Loki (unless the opponent is also a tempo-style deck). For example, you would always play Loki into Bounce, but if you’re falling behind against Destroy it might be better to try playing the counter game plan.

This Loki and Devil Dinosaur deck has been a personal favorite of mine, and it still posts great results (and can be simpler to play). Rogue comes in for the location as a way to swing against opposing Quinjets or Mobius M. Mobius. The basic plan here is simple: play cards, fill your hand, and, if you lock your hand early, keep it locked so you can play Blob on Turn 6 or Loki ASAP.

No Loki? Well, not all hope is lost. You can go back to some Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur action with Quinjet. This naturally gets value from Quinjet, but you can also find other ways to win with the location. Just be careful if you have the Dino in hand when the location flips.

Quinjet can be included in some other Moon Girl focused decks, and playing Ravonna Renslayer with the new Professor X could be one way to go about this. Here you want all your cost reducers on the board before playing Moon Girl on Turn 4, and then you can go wild.

Finally, embrace the Chaos! Just play Agatha. When the location flips, it will be Agatha all the way down! This version is based around playing high stat cards that support Ronan the Accuser on one lane and Agatha on another! This is true Agatha gameplay; no tricks, just an honest Agatha on Turn 6. User beware.

Series 2 is best positioned by going the Devil Dinosaur direction, and this deck goes back to the Destroy supporting package. This package allows you to keep your hand free to continue drawing in the early game before playing Moon Girl to set up and support your Devil Dinosaur plays.
