Each week, three cards will be featured in the Spotlight Caches, and their corresponding Spotlight Variants if you have already collected the card. We recommend that you carefully choose the cards you want, and save up at least four Spotlight Keys to get your desired card. So take a look at the Spotlight Cache card release schedule below, and plan ahead!
You will also be able to find the full Spotlight Cache release schedule for past, current, and upcoming months in our dedicated new card release guide or schedule page:
Week of July 9, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | PANDART STUDIO | |
| Galactus | 5 | Ron Garney |
| Nebula | 5 | Sweeney Boo |
Starting off this mid-year season is the launch of Hydra Bob! This card looks a bit lackluster to say the least. A [1/4] statline is above average, but only moving on a Snap makes him a liability. Snapping is the most important aspect of the game, and having a killable 4 Power card randomly shift locations isn’t particularly powerful.
The real power of this cache comes from it’s supporting cast. Nebula is one of the best 1-Cost cards in the game! She not only poses a constant Power threat, she also gives you a low Cost option to make your opponent play suboptimal. Galactus, while not the best card right now, is a archetype defining card that sees a healthy win rate according to developers. A strong 1-Cost and an archetype creating card in one package is a pretty good deal if you are missing them.
Week of July 16, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Ajax | 5 | PANDART STUDIO |
| Darkhawk | 4 | Philip Tan |
| Beta Ray Bill | 5 | Chase Conley |
Week number 2, new card number 2! Ajax joins the cast this week, and is a prime contender for High Evolutionary decks. I’m a bit conflicted on how good he will be. On the one hand, the card looks fairly lackluster, acting as a Gilgamesh that grows from negative power. His biggest difference is being an Ongoing card. He is susceptible to not only Luke Cage, but the highly popular Rogue and Enchantress picks for Arishem decks. The only reason I think this card might be better than expected is because developers nerfed him from his datamined 4-Cost stat line to his now 5-Cost stat line. He must have been too strong at 4-Cost, so could he be better than we expected.
Joining Ajax this week is a meta counter card and a fun mid tier card. Darkhawk has risen yet again as a auto include in many decks with Arishem terrorizing the meta. Even outside of an Arishem world, Darkhawk decks have consistently performed well, even after his nerf to 5-Cost. Beta Ray Bill is a fun card in exactly one deck style: with Jane Foster and Thor. His strength only comes from drawing Stormbreaker, so ensuring it happens is a must with a 4-Cost investment. When his combo pops off with Odin, it is incredibly satisfying. When it doesn’t, the card is quick to put back into your collection.
Week of July 23, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Copycat | 5 | PANDART STUDIO |
| Cull Obsidian | 5 | Seth Adams |
| Thanos | 5 | Leinil Francis Yu, Sunny Gho |
Mill players rejoice! A new tool arrives this week in the form of Copycat. With her automatically stealing text when you draw her, you can get multiple benefits from her in a Mill setting. Outside of that, she is a information tool that can tip you off enough to Snap some extra cubes. Is your opponent playing Loki, but you just got free info that their Loki is now text-less at the bottom of the deck? That seems pretty advantageous to me.
Right behind Copycat is the return of Cull Obsidian and Thanos! These cards frequently go hand in hand, and so do their relevance in the meta. With Thanos undergoing active reworks, neither card sees much play. With that said, Thanos is a unique archetype and a good long term investment. Cull Obsidian is a strong 4-Cost with a very manageable play restriction.
Week of July 30, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Nico Minoru | 5 | PANDART STUDIO |
| Hope Summers | 5 | Phoenix Force |
| Proxima Midnight | 5 | Seth Adams |
For the first time in over 6 months, there are no new cards in a Spotlight Cache! This is because the new card Cassandra Nova will be obtainable with the Deadpool’s Diner event starting July 23, 2024, and will be in a future Spotlight Cache and available in the Token Shop starting August 7, 2024.
Instead, we get 3 repeats, all of which are strong in their own fields. Nico Minoru is a must have 1-Cost card that every player needs to own. Not only is she incredibly strong and versatile, she is extremely fun! Hope Summers is a great ramp tool that powers multiple decks and arguably creates archetypes. Proxima Midnight is purely for discard decks, but she is very good at enhancing the discard decks she is in.
Simply put, this is a catchup week for players missing good cards. If you already have Nico and Hope, this is an easy pass.
