Strategy and General Tips

Tarnax IV is the last new location for the Higher, Further, Faster season, and, although it may not completely warp the meta around it, there are some decks that can get some slight advantages from this effect.

Cards with a one-time effect and a below-rate power level are prime targets for the location. You can get their effect and then remove the low power body. You can then replace the low power body with something that is at least on rate, but there are some low roll situations that could occur. The Hood is an excellent example because it is usually -3 power, but with the location you can automatically convert it and move on with your gameplan. The 1-drops have the added advantage of being easy to bounce back to hand with Falcon or Beast in order to re-roll and have a high chance of finding other On Reveal cards.

Ironheart is a great example of a 3-Cost card that can often transform for more power while adding six power across the board. This leads to the synergy with Silver Surfer as one deck that directly targets specific costs. You won’t lose the 3-Cost part of the cards you play on the location, but can potentially lose the initial cards with a below rate power level.

For those that love chaos and rolling the dice, Mister Negative and Electro are clear targets. These two cards are likely to transform into more valuable cards after getting their effect. Electro stands out because you can play cards off the location after the On Reveal to impact the board and it synergizes with Doctor Doom and Leader (both of which can transform into random big 6-drops on the location).

Bounce decks play several cards with below stat bodies and great effects. This allows you to upgrade your cards while getting the required benefits you need for your gameplan. Then you have Beast and Falcon to bring the cards back and either reactivate them or just roll on the location again. You can potentially add value via the location and then redistribute the cards to wherever you need them. And the best part: all this can be done while sending Werewolf By Night bouncing around the board.

This deck has several great Tarnax IV targets like Brood and Ironheart. Silver Surfer has the added benefit of being guaranteed to still work on the transformed cards, which should (hopefully) all add power over the card you originally played at the location. This gives the deck some potential improvement from the location while remaining the same deck at its core.

This Electro Ramp deck looks to do the usual Electro Ramp things: get big threats out early. This version carries three 6-drops that could be great targets on Tarnax IV. Leader on Turn 5, for example, would transform into another 6-drop and then allow you to Arnim Zola on the locations, which creates another 6-drop and spreads power to the other two lanes. Yes, you have some low rolls with these plays, but they allow for the location to sometimes help while not being overly reliant on it.

White Tiger is easily the best target for Series 1 and 2 cards, so I modified the modify the usual White Tiger deck. This deck moves toward a lower curve of cards that you can use on the location to redistribute power elsewhere. Cards like Ant Man can be dropped on the location for a chance of upgrading when you know that you are going to miss the effect, and cards like Forge can help put power elsewhere. Storm and Jessica Jones are always a strong play to make, and that limits the final turn plays for big Gamora finishes.
