Infinite Decks of the Week – Marvel Snap Outside Alioth and Loki!

Ravonna may not be as strong as the other cards we've had this month, but, as den so aptly puts it, not every card has to break the game. She is still strong, which is demonstrated by the decks featured here this week. Come check them out!

If you look at the top of the Infinite ranks or what is posting the best results in Conquest, you will see a lot of the same archetypes and cards.

With Wave, Alioth, Doctor Doom on one side and Loki, Quinjet, and The Collector on the other, Marvel Snap has some clearly dominant synergies right now. Even more so with the balance break week allowing them to establish their dominance without changes getting in the way.

Still, if those decks are dominating the game at the highest level, reaching the Infinite rank doesn’t have to be about only these decks. Indeed, the road to Infinite has plenty of other decks thriving and racking up enough cubes to climb the Ladder. Today, I’d like to focus on the archetypes that have managed to sneak their way to Infinite while the environment is said to be particularly difficult to navigate.

Also, let’s give some love to Ravonna Renslayer. She has been struggling to be considered a good card because she’s being compared to the other releases this month (which are some very big shoes to fill). I won’t try to convince you the card is as strong as Loki or Alioth, but Ravonna still managed to push a few decks to the highest rank in the game. And those decks are certainly worth taking a look at.

In particular, it is interesting to look at the various strategies that were explored around the card, as quite a few different decks have reached Infinite this week. It shows that the card has some potential, and we might have more to explore than we thought at first when we dismissed Ravonna Renslayer because she wasn’t as clearly dominant as the other two cards released so far. Sure, Mobius M. Mobius might put a dagger into Ravonna Renslayer‘s momentum before it’s even started. Despite the looming threat, Ravonna is a decent card that could have seen play if it was released at another time this year.

This week, I’m dedicating the Infinite Decks series to Ravonna Renslayer, and, more specifically, to those who managed to find a way to make the card work and racked up enough cubes to reach the highest rank in Marvel Snap.

This is a bit of an odd pairing since Ravonna Renslayer works best with low-power cards and The Living Tribunal is about developing as many points as possible. Still, this deck packs a few interesting targets for cost reduction that factor into both plans simultaneously.

First, we have of the strongest pair alongside Ravonna Renslayer: Iron Man and Mystique. These two can be played together on Turn 6 thanks to the reduction that Ravonna provides. Then, Jubilee and Forge are strong standalone cards right now, and they have enough targets to make them work in this deck.

Hela Tribunal has unfortunately died Alioth joined the game, so this could be a fun way to try to revive a similar synergy with The Living Tribunal. This time, though, the deck looks much more flexible. It’s able to mount a turn with several cards reduced by Ravonna if the basic Iron Man, Onslaught, and The Living Tribunal plan doesn’t look safe.

We already discussed Mystique and Iron Man in the previous build, and we can also spot Forge as a recurring inclusion in the Ravonna Renslayer-based archetypes. In this build, I would like to focus on Green Goblin and Hobgoblin. Both of these cards have a lot of upside when they cost one less energy.

First, they bring some disruption while not eating up your space on the board. That might not seem like much, but, similar to Sera, Ravonna Renslayer can open some explosive turns that which require your space to be fully effective.

Then, disruptive cards tend to be much stronger when they are not played at their expected timing. Indeed, in addition to the deck not looking like it will necessarily run either of the Goblins, Hobgoblin on Turn 4 is much stronger than when played on Turn 5. There is less risk of the lane you play it into being filled by your opponent, and it gives you an extra turn to capitalize on the card.

As for Green Goblin, the card is usually difficult to play if not on Turn 3, and at that point three energy is a lot to invest if you don’t have cheap, impactful cards to pair it with. As a 2-Cost, it is much easier to fit Green Goblin into a later turn. You can even pair it with Wolfsbane to use gain the extra buff while not using the space.

Otherwise, it’s important to note how many 3-Cost cards are included in this deck. The build looks quite similar to Silver Surfer in a way, with Ravonna Renslayer unlocking a triple 3-Cost play on Turn 6 with her ability.

It might be nothing, or it might be a fun path to follow with the new card.

This was the most obvious pairing when we first saw the card. Ravonna Renslayer can serve as a back-up plan in case Mister Negative doesn’t show up. The deck wouldn’t be as strong, obviously, but, when you consider it was borderline unplayable in that situation before, Ravonna has definitely helped increase the amount of games the deck can compete in.

Once again, we spot the Mystique and Iron Man duo, which is simply too good to pass on. Then, we have another card often included alongside Ravonna: Darkhawk. And when you don’t draw Iron Man, Darkhawk can also be copied by Mystique.

The rest of the deck is built around the On Reveal synergy, which is usually a common thread with Mister Negative decks. Ravonna Renslayer naturally has great targets, such as White Tiger, because powerful On Reveal abilities tend to have very low power.

Closing Words

Either as the center of the deck or just a nice back-up plan, Ravonna Renslayer has shown that she is a decent card in Marvel Snap. Sure, she can’t compare to the other cards we’ve received this month, but there aren’t many cards in the game that can actually compare to Loki and Alioth if we’re being honest. With that in mind, maybe it’s just unfair to set such high standards for every new card. Instead, we might want to consider how fun the card can be, how promising it could become with future releases, or simply how many ideas we have around the card.

With the anticipated popularity of Mobius M. Mobius, it doesn’t seem like any card looking to reduce card cost will have a good time next week (or in the foreseeable future). As such, Ravonna Renslayer might have to wait before it becomes a competitive card in Marvel Snap. Until then, don’t refrain from building around it and testing things. even though Ravonna has not pushed archetypes the same way Alioth and Loki did, the card opened new avenues to some rather unpopular cards, and it helped Mister Negative gain a bit of relevancy. It’s not breaking the game, but not every card has to.

I hope you’re enjoying your climb to the Infinite rank. I wish you the best of luck to make it before the season is over. There is still plenty of time, so I’m sure you will make it! Next week promises to be another eventful time for Marvel Snap with an impactful new card (and probably many changes to the current popular archetypes). I can’t wait to see which decks will manage to climb to the top rank in that context.
