Infinite Decks of the Week – Climbing In the New Season

While it may not be as impactful as the last two Season Pass cards, Ms. Marvel is far from bad. Plenty of decks have already hit Infinite using it! If you're curious whether you should beat them or join them, read den's thoughts in here.

Looking for a sweet decklist to climb the Ladder? Every week, we scour the community for decks and highlight the interesting ones that reach the Infinite rank on the Marvel Snap ranked Ladder. We also provide commentary on each list, which allows us to discuss how the overall Marvel Snap metagame is developing and how these players took advantage of it.

Overview of the Week

Season Pass cards often have a lot of controversy surrounding them. Cards we need to pay for are usually attacked on two fronts in the community. There are those who feel it is necessary to have them in order to compete and the system is rigged, so we are forced to pay to succeed in Marvel Snap. And there are those who claim Season Pass cards getting nerfed is a disgrace since we have to pay money in order to acquire them (this group has gotten more popular in the last two months). With Loki and Elsa Bloodstone heavily feeding this narrative, Ms. Marvel released with a lot of scrutiny around her, and high expectations to boot.

It is still early in the season, and the recent OTA could shake up the early performers I found among those who already made it to the Infinite rank. Still, even if the bots are helping, climbing back to rank 100 isn’t such an easy task that can be completed in a matter of hours. It requires a very reliable deck to ensure a solid Win Rate, or, at least, one you can Snap with and keep your opponent in the game to make sure you rack up more than one or two cubes when your game plan goes exactly how you want it.

There was a heavy focus on Ms. Marvel‘s early performance this week, but also a few surprising decks following the OTA. It might be because many expected Mobius M. Mobius to come and ruin the momentum some archetypes built in its absence. Either way, this first installment of our Infinite Decks of the Week aims to help you climb the Ladder a little more efficiently during your next play sessions.

Let’s dive in!

The Lockdown archetype was probably the most obvious to pair with the new Season Pass card. Indeed, the ability to reach several lanes at once is obviously excellent in a deck with Storm, Professor X, and other tools to limit the available playing field.

Various lists of the archetype have been thrown around the community, including the featured list that focuses around one precise plan. In this one, the focus is clearly around a decisive lockdown plan, even if the opponent quickly understands what is going on with Medusa or Mister Fantastic giving away which deck you are playing in the early turns. With the help of Daredevil, the deck is tailor-made to perform once it manages to get going.

It doesn’t matter too much if your opponent figures out what you are up to or not. Instead, you are simply looking to build a small advantage going into the last three turns since your more expensive cards should naturally take over. You could either use Ms. Marvel and Doctor Doom to attack all lanes at once, or use Professor X or Gamora to win one lane and make sure the opponent won’t be able to play on another one with Alioth.

This idea is fairly similar in the second style of deck, except the Move synergy is included for more flexibility. Indeed, moving your cards can ensure Ms. Marvel will consistently activate, even if it looks like a lane doesn’t meet the requirements until the last turn of play. You can also see some different cards used in order to limit the playing field, such as Legion. Here, instead of trying to lock a location like you would with Professor X, the goal is to abuse any particularly good location for you considering you can play around most things through the Move synergy.

Impacting every lane at once is a pretty powerful ability in Marvel Snap. Indeed, when you are required to win two out of three lanes, cards that can impact all three (even if they represent fewer points on each) tend to create strategies where you keep your opponent in the dark – and often have priority as well.

If you put this in the context of a Ramp deck (which typically only plays one card per turn), you quickly realize why Ms. Marvel made a lot of sense to include. As an added bonus, the card makes Jeff the Baby Land Shark even stronger, as you can pair them on Turn 5 if you played Electro (Jeff bypasses the limitations of one card per turn). This creates an eighteen power play in total that is spread across all lanes and perfect for setting up an Alioth with priority on the following turn. You can also use it to support an Orka with extra points.

Disruptive Cards are Already Putting in Work

The meta is still very new, but a new Season Pass card will usually warp it for a few days since a lot of people are eager to see how good the card is and build around it. As such, if you can find disruptive cards that will do well against the card or its anticipated strong allies, you might have a great counter deck on your hands.

In this one, there are plenty of disruptive cards, but there are three in particular that I like a lot in the Ms. Marvel meta: Goose, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Rogue.

  • Goose played in the middle means that your opponent cannot play the Season Pass card in its best location, thus transforming Ms. Marvel from a [4/15] to a [4/10] instantly.
  • Rogue is bound to make a comeback in a lot of decks if the trend continues; Ms. Marvel has a great Ongoing ability to steal from your opponent.
  • Negasonic Teenage Warhead still isn’t seeing too much play, even after its change, but, similar to Goose, if you know the opponent wants to play a powerful card in a certain location and at a certain time, you might just need priority to destroy that card and build a ton of momentum for the rest of the match.

Although the rest of the deck looks pretty basic for a Silver Surfer build, it is worth noting that Polaris and Spider-Man are also very effective against Ms. Marvel because the position of your opponent’s cards is important for maximizing the card’s potential.

InSheNaut Resists Mobius’s Comeback

The archetype rose to be one of the strongest in the meta with Mobius M. Mobius gone after its first change, so I was eager to know how the deck would fare following this OTA. This achievement happened a few hours after the patch went live, so it seems like Mobius hasn’t made much of a comeback yet.

If the card was to remain discreet, this kind of strategy that mixes both explosive patterns and high power cards has a ton of upsides. Indeed, with the obvious counter nowhere to be seen for now, the nerf to Shang-Chi also lead to that card seeing less play overall. With both of the main disruptive cards against InSheNaut out of the picture, only Legion removing Limbo appears to be a concern for the deck. But, once again, we are talking about a card with a low play rate.

This will be a very interesting development to follow in the near future.

Closing Words

Early in the season, there are usually two strategies that will prevail. One is building around the new card, which is often touted as really strong. You can get inspired by the tons of ideas that you can find online since everyone is buzzing about the latest addition to the game. The second one is doing exactly the opposite and capitalizing on that popularity to play some counter cards, or a deck that is able to rival it in points. You won’t face as many counters because your deck is built around concepts that are far from what the new card is pushing.

No matter which side you decide to be on, remember that trying to push for Infinite early on in the season is mostly about finding comfort in the meta, as well as the stamina needed to play for several hours in a row.

If you aren’t about that grind, there is nothing wrong with iterating through various ideas and climbing to Infinite over several weeks. In the end, the goal is simply to get there. The timing only matters if you want to challenge yourself, or if you feel particularly good in the current environment and want to get it done before the next changes.

I hope you’re having fun in this new season, and may your climb go well. If you need anything, find me on the Marvel Snap Zone community Discord, or follow my Twitter page where I share decks and biased opinions about the game.

Good Game Everyone.
