Starlit Surprise Bundle Guide – Details and Analysis

Buyer's guide to the Starlit Surprise Bundle. What does it contain and how good is it in comparison to other bundles?

The Starlit Surprise bundle is the last non-recurring (unique) Gold bundle for which datamining information was available. After this bundle expires, we won’t know anything about other upcoming bundles, their prices, or content. So let’s take a look at what the last known unique bundle for Gold turned out to be.

The first thing we usually pay attention to is the Progress Value, and here we are immediately greeted with an unpleasant surprise. 111% for a price of 4,500 Gold is a rather low value, especially considering that the usual maximum Progress Value for a bundle is around 133%.

Before the introduction of the Spotlight Caches system, there was more Gold available and we could afford to purchase bundles with a lower Progress Value, since there weren’t as many opportunities to spend Gold. After the introduction of the Spotlight Caches system and until recently, we had regular breaks in the release of new cards to accumulate resources. But now the value of Gold is higher than ever, and considering that cards are released every week without exception, every piece of Gold and how you manage it is important.

Therefore, strategically, a player who cares about their progress should not consider purchasing a bundle that costs as much as two months of Gold progress to gain a 10% benefit over in-game shop prices instead of the potential 33% additional resources.

The lag behind other named (unique) bundles is noticeable in the graph below, where the Starlit Surprise Bundle is below the average value.

A similar pattern persists when compared with bundles of a similar price category, with the addition of a 25% margin of error, since the exact price of 4,500 Gold is unique to this bundle.

Since the bundle includes Collector’s Tokens, it’s tempting to compare its value in terms of Tokens per Gold, but even here we get a suboptimal result.

The bundle has a value of 0.67 Tokens per Gold, while Token Tuesdays offer 0.71. And the recently concluded Rocket Power Bundle had an even higher value of 0.82 Tokens per Gold at a price of 2,500 Gold – almost half as much.

Comparison with a similar bundle priced at 4,200 Gold, available a month ago – Artist Showcase: Inkpulp – also seems pertinent. That bundle not only had an incredible value of 0.97 Tokens per Gold, but also twice as much cosmetics! Therefore, that bundle was highly recommended for purchase. And for the same reason, the Starlit Surprise bundle doesn’t look very appealing.

My guess as to why this bundle has such low Progress Value despite its significant price is as follows. Firstly, it includes a variant by Rian Gonzales. And such variants, judging by past bundles, often hold more value in the eyes of Second Dinner than others.

My second guess relates to the fact that this is a variant for Sera, a card that can be very useful for beginners because it forms its own strong archetype, which recently got a second wind after the buff to Ghost in the February 7th patch.

Conclusion

Therefore, the Starlit Surprise bundle isn’t worth it for most players, and it’s better to save up Gold, which you might need to spend on something in the future. We don’t know anything about the upcoming bundles, so you might need every piece of Gold; at a minimum, we recommend keeping 7,000-9,000 Gold on hand in case of very good bundles.

Only if you’re absolutely in love with the presented Sera variant, or if you haven’t completed Series 3 and Sera is the card you really need right now, and you plan to play with this archetype, then you can confidently consider purchasing the bundle, as it holds increased value for you.

In other cases, we recommend keeping away from the Starlit Surprise bundle and not buying it.

Also, don’t forget that you can evaluate this bundle in comparison to others using a variety of different criteria, utilizing the special chart next to the bundle both on this page and on the dedicated bundle page!
