An entire month has passed since the release of the last named Gold bundle – Starlit Surprise, which didn’t quite astonish us with its 111% Progress Value. And now we’ve received a new Gold bundle – the Long Live The King bundle, so let’s see where it stands in terms of value.
Guide
The first thing that catches the eye is the Progress Value. 91.8% means that it’s about 8% worse than purchasing the same Collector’s Tokens and Credits in the in-game shop. For 1,400 Gold, you can buy 1,000 Collector’s Tokens via a Token Tuesday bundle, and for the remaining 800 Gold, you can get 1,000 Credits, which already puts the bundle in a disadvantageous position.
The ratios of Collector’s Tokens to Gold and Credits to Gold are predictably low, equaling 0.47 and 0.34 respectively. The missing 250 Credits clearly demonstrates the bundle’s poor standing among similar named Gold bundles, as well as among bundles of the same price category.
The Total Value among Gold bundles that contain cosmetics is also not inspiring. The only bundle noticeably worse than this is the Oh No, He’s Hot!!! bundle, which barely justifies its cost in terms of overall value. So it’s hard to call the bundle in question the worst, but it could easily find itself in 2nd or 3rd place if we consider bundles after the Spotlight Update, which significantly changed the economy.
But what about the variant? Could it have pulled all the value to itself and be worth it? Unfortunately, the answer is no unless you are specifically in love with this particular variant.
Yes, you can use this variant if you haven’t yet collected this Series 3, or you might want to show it off in the current meta. But in both cases, there’s a problem – Black Panther is absolutely nowhere to be seen in the current meta.
The card itself is currently in the C tier among Series 3 cards, and the best attempt to make it work today is to put it in a Mister Negative deck, which will have a very modest 53% win rate.
New players might try to build an On Reveal deck with Black Panther, but it falls short in winrate and cuberate compared to the classic Zoo Kazar decks from Series 1-2 at the start of ranking up, and to such Series 3 decks as Shuri, Silver Surfer, and Sera, when the collection level is higher.
Moreover, a large number of On Reveal deck builds have generally abandoned Black Panther in favor of better cards.
Conclusion
In the end, after a month of waiting, we have the bundle with a Progress Value worse than the in-game shop, with all value indicators worse than almost all named (unique) bundles released after the Spotlight Update, and recurring bundles, if you forget about Booster Packs, will also be better on average.
If personal preferences are not considered, this also doesn’t increase the bundle’s value. Black Panther is currently not in the meta, and it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to boast effectively or use it in place of a card if you’re still a novice.
Considering all the recent changes in monetization and the developers’ statements, it’s quite likely that we are entering an era where the value of bundles will be reduced to variants, and progress value will simply be a nice bonus to it. The orientation of spending such a premium resource as Gold on cosmetics seems like a logical step for stabilizing profits and the use of resources by players, given that the options for converting Gold into Credits and Collector’s Tokens aren’t being taken away from us.
Perhaps we’ll have to come to terms with the fact that things will be like this – bundles without datamines, with not so great Progress Value and an economy oriented towards cosmetics. But know that in the end, if you compare spending Gold on bundles and on the usual conversion methods – the difference in the long-term perspective amounts to a couple of percent, due to how little Gold we get per season and how many Credits.
Therefore, considering everything mentioned above – if you have been buying bundles for the increased Progress Value – this one isn’t your choice. I would advise waiting for better bundles or start purchasing Token Tuesdays or Credits, depending on your preferred method of acquiring new cards.
If you are buying bundles for the sake of variants – look at the variant and make a decision, it’s that simple. But keep in mind that in the current meta, it’s quite challenging to find a place for Black Panther. Although this could change.
