Klyntar Featured Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

This week's Marvel Snap Featured Location is Klyntar. Here's our proposed strategy, with the best cards and decks that you can try (including for Pool 1 and Pool 2 players) for the next 48 hours!

This week’s Marvel Snap Featured Location is Klyntar: After turn 4, merge your cards here into a Symbiote. This is a brand new location for Marvel Snap’s The Power Cosmic Season, now added to the Location pool. For the next 48 hours, it will show up 40% more frequently in games during this feature period. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are!

What is Klyntar?

Klyntar Featured Location

The Plant of the Symbiotes, is a named literally after the symbiote word for “cage”. When Knull created the symbiotes he created this artificial planet and hive mind for the symbiotes. During Knull’s war on the light, the link between him and the symbiotes was severed, and the planet rebelled, “caging” Knull at the centre of Klyntar, until his eventual reawakening. When Knull regained his power, he asserted his control over the symbiotes at Klyntar once more, eventually destroying the Homeworld and combining the remaining symbiotes there into Symbiote Dragons, once again under his control.

Strategy

Klyntar‘s effect happens at the end of Turn 4. This leaves plenty of room for interaction with the location. Additionally it is important to note that the Symbiote it produces is a 1-Cost card (Killmonger anyone?). When the cards “merge”, they should lose their negative effects which could be one avenue to approach this one.

When locations like this have featured previously, cards such as Shang-Chi have been a must-include to counter the other side of the board. This time we can include Killmonger as the key tech card. If we are expecting Killmonger and want to play into the location for some benefit then Armor is going to need to be included to protect our newly formed Symbiote on Turn 5.

Interestingly it also does not contain the word Destroy, so the effect doesn’t help us feed the new card, Knull, or reduce the cost of Death.

Another approach therefore might be to merge the Symbiote and then use a card like Venom to change the stats into a 3-Cost body and get extra destroy effects in.

These lists are starting to be built with Series 4 and 5 cards. Where they are not the feature card I will include a note on what cards to consider swapping in.

Cards and Deck Ideas

Venom

Everyone’s favorite Symbiote might be a powerhouse into the location. Here we are featuring a destroy deck with Typhoid Mary and Taskmaster to go along with him. Goal will be to play into Klyntar with your destroy effects, hopefully leaving a Winter Soldier and something their on Turn 4. They will transform into a Symbiote you can then Venom and then Taskmaster on 6.

Titania, Lizard and Zero may also be good in this plan instead of the Death + Wave package, but I am not as confident it will be consistent enough. Therefore we have DeathWave appearing once again. If we miss, we can Wave on 5 into Death and She-Hulk or Death and Taskmaster for example as ways to still win the game.

Killmonger may seem an anti-synergy but if we both have 1 power symbiotes, we can Killmonger to destroy both, and if theirs was bigger than ours this trade off seems worth it.

If you don’t have She-Hulk, play Aero or Magneto.

Typhoid Mary & Ebony Maw

The biggest Turn 4 card which comes to mind as a standalone for the location. She is played on 4 and will immediately lose the effect leaving a 10 power Symbiote. Therefore we need Armor in the deck for Turn 5 alongside enough redundancy to push power around the board. If we are looking to do this without a Destroy package we could also look at Ebony Maw.

If we add in Zero, we can play a lot of negative effect low cost cards, creating a Zoo deck which can consolidate a location on 4, use Armor to protect it, whilst having enough other power cards to fill your curve. If we miss all the cards can be used in multiple combinations to push power.

Cloak is the signature piece included. Try playing Cloak on one lane and Ebony Maw on another on 3. On 4 you can then move Ebony Maw to the Cloak lane whilst playing another card behind Cloak, even without Zero. If we pull this off on Klyntar and get to play Typhoud Mary on 4 that’s 4 + 7 + 10 = 21 power on turn 4 in one card with no negative effects!

If you don’t have Titania, play another good 1 drop. If you don’t have Attuma, play Red Skull or push power across your board with Blue Marvel or Ka-Zar.

Killmonger

An effective control deck is likely to be good into the location, if playing into it turns out to be a good idea. This Sera Control deck looks to use Killmonger to destroy the Symbiote. The rest of the deck is a Sera shell looking to have an explosive finish on Turn 6. Valkyrie is a strong piece of the deck but not necessary. She equalizes a lane you can then win with an Angela activation or any other card behind her.

If you don’t have Valkyrie, any other tech card or Blue Marvel should also work.

What You Should Play

For this location, you can keep playing your favorite deck and just play around the location. It is not too disruptive to most decks and playing specifically into it may leave you susceptible to hard counters such as Killmonger and Shang-Chi.

If looking to play into the location, the Venom Destroy deck seems best as a starting point. It has a good plans outside of the location and can leverage the additional merge effect.

Pool 1

Namor should, if he is the only card on Klyntar, be “merged” into a 10 power 1 cost card. We can then use a general Ongoing package around it, potentially doubling the 10 power Symbiote on Turn 5 with Iron Man and using Spectrum on 6 to buff all your other cards.

Pool 2

Here we are playing a “Handlock” style deck with Killmonger. We can use our Armor to protect a Sunspot lane if we want from our Killmonger. We can also use Storm and Jessica Jones to lock down a lane, and Devil Dinosaur shenanigans also feature.

I would recommend blocking another lane other than Klyntar if you see your opponent playing into Klyntar and trying to Killmonger the Symbiote.
