Will we be correct in our assessments?

6. Hercules – 58 points

Hercules seems very cool. The ability to, with some caveats, move Human Torch or Vulture twice is incredibly strong. It also offers some protection against Vision and the omnipresent Jeff the Baby Land Shark. A [4/6] body is usually very good; it’s usually how Second Dinner shows us they’re pushing a card. Still, I don’t buy that this will really be good.

First, a non-flashy card like this being in Series 5 and not Series 4 has not boded well for similar new enablers like Silver Samurai. Next, there are still too few Move enablers in the game that work well with this card – especially since it’s only once per turn. This is a bigger problem as a 4-Cost because it leaves little room for other cards and only two turns of activations. Pretty much everyone agrees on this, and I’d be surprised to see it not quickly go to a [3/5].

  • Move is my favorite archetype, but he should’ve been a 3-Cost 5 power. – Minh Nguyen
  • I almost forgot Hercules because he’s awful. – Peaceful Sea
  • Finally, the Move archetype gets something powerful. – KingofCanada
  • Hmm, I’m not sure. Costs too much for Move tbh. – KrakenNull
  • Too expensive for setting up moves, I expect a change to 3 energy (but it won’t help the movement archetype much). – Kirallas
  • Move players will do silly things with him. PF Multiple Man? He can play defense against Move, but nobody is asking for that. Think his cost is probably too high for him to do anything too wacky or strong. – LaurenWhatevs

5. Miek – 120 points

What a weird little card. Half-Morbius here isn’t Ongoing, so it’s going to need to hit the board. But, when it does, it should have extremely high-stats as a 1-drop for decks that want it. Its cost also makes it easy to fit into the curve. Making this a Series 4 card further suggests that it’ll be a Discard Deck staple. If it was released a month ago, I get the feeling it would have ranked higher. The issue with Miek is that classic Discard decks don’t really exist in the meta without America Chavez. Is Miek enough to bring them back? I don’t think so, and neither does our panel. It is, however, a step in the right direction.

  • Could bring Discard Dracula back, love it. – den
  • Discard is in a good spot already, so another decent scaling card and one that fills the weakness of not being able to reach locations sounds good to me. – Combat
  • Miek could shoot up to #2 if Discard is good. Morbius .5. – KrakenKnull
  • In the comics, Miek was responsible for the destruction of Planet Skaar, which led to World War Hulk. He’ll be a fun little jerk. – Monroe Bieler
  • Miek‘s turn after text may be slept on. – Macdonaldinho
  • I can’t wait for Miek, another scaling card for Discard decks will be nice especially one that can move around. Miek into MODOK t5 in typical discard should be fun.- Pilk
  • Miek reminds me of Werewolf By Night and The Collector mixed together into a Frankenstein’s monster of a card, which makes me think he could be a real force to be reckoned with. – Shneerp

4. Beta Ray Bill – 139 points

This is likely an easy card to predict as good, right? Thor is good, so Thor for one more with an extra splash of spice (this power doubles, not a static +6 like from Mjolnir) seems good, too. What are its homes? Well, classic Thor goes in decks with Lockjaw and those trying to abuse Jane Foster Mighty Thor for a last-turn Hit Monkey or Werewolf By Night shenanigans. There’s little reason to assume it won’t fit just fine there. The play I’m most excited for with this card is to drop Stormbreaker, Mjolnir, and Odin to end the game, which would make making Thor 16 power and Beta Ray Bill 20 power as a surprise finisher.

  • Ray gonna be nutty with multiple procs. – Devilish
  • This is such a cool month for cards. I’m pretty excited about all of them. Beta Ray Bill is probably what I’m most intrigued by right now. People seem afraid of him. I’m excited! – FaThorNewman
  • I’m not biased toward Thor cards. – KaptKerr as he ranked BRB #1
  • I loved the Elsa Gards deck when it was at the top of the meta, and I’m hoping my man Beta Ray Bill can bring it back to glory. – Bootman
  • Solid card that works with an already established style of play, can’t see it being bad just not very exciting. – SafetyBlade
  • Big Thor but cost four? Daken that costs four? Black Panther with extra steps? I’m not impressed. – Minh Nguyen

3. Skaar – 198 points

Skaar is a lot of stats for very cheap. It was my personal #2 (with Caiera down at #3 and the next card as #1). Big cheap stats in Snap are good – they’re fundamentally the most straightforward way to win the game. Skaar also already has a ton of homes, from decks built just for it with cards like Namor and Attuma to previous meta giants like Shuri Red Skull and Thanos Lockjaw.

Skaar should be weaker in the meta soon. A ton of Snap players own a card that hard counters its cost reduction (Mobius M. Mobius, but that card tends to cycles in and out of seeing play. If that’s still the case, Skaar will cycle in and out of being one of the better cards in Marvel Snap.

  • Skaar, I’m torn on this… haven’t given it much thought. It could be either okay or one of the worst Season Pass cards. – Wolverthor
  • Quite good in many archetypes with large cards, although he can be awkward. Even stronger with Caiera. – Kirallas
  • Skaar is gonna be another strong Season Pass card where there’s a Tier 1 deck you can’t play without it for the next month or more. – Bad Player
  • I do think Skaar will be better once Beta Ray Bill releases as an enabler for him. – DoeyKat
  • Skaar is clearly quite good at being extra power to play similar to She-Hulk but with a win condition more akin to that of Shuri Taskmaster decks. – Shneerp

2. Grand Master – 199 points

This is my #1. The sheer amount of silly stuff that people are cooking up for Grand Master is crazy. At first glance, this is just a cool tool for Mister Negative and Silver Surfer decks; with Ravonna Renslayer, the combinations are wild. It can trigger a huge Hit Monkey or double up Silver Surfer, Alioth twice is wild, and it can be an extra trigger for Kraven, too. Werewolf By Night gets better with it and Arnim Zola seems absolutely insane. 10 power worth of Doctor Doom all over the board? There’s a lot here to love. Just remember, in addition to Ravonna, Grand Master loves Wave. Read through the creator comments for this one. People are EXCITED. It was in first or nearly last for everyone.

  • I’m most excited to see what people come up with for Grand Master. – SavageYeti
  • 2-cost tech cards are the heart of the Snap meta. Having a card that can move cards AND reactivate an On Reveal makes for a dangerous combo. Cards like Spectrum, Ghost Rider, Aero, Rescue, Viper, and more will love the best card of January, Grand Master. – ItsGuestGaming
  • Even if he isn’t good, really thrilled by the card. – NiTheal
  • I think OP is an understatement. – Docty
  • With the series drop to Echo and how solid Ravonna is right now, Grand Master stocks are going to be WILD. – Tuccrr
  • Imagine whiffing a Galactus then whipping out Grand Master to move Galactus to the middle lane and having him go off! – Comixfan
  • I initially doubted this, but the possibilities for bounce seem nuts, Beast combos might be too crazy. – Revis
  • Grand Master is the type of card that will be broken. I don’t know when, and I don’t know what it will break – but this will enable something someday. I’m looking forward to Grand Master Negative Surfer. No promises that the deck will be good tho… – Teebs
  • Game breaking. Shiiizzzz, Mini Odin, combo with Ravonna, Arnim Zola, etc. Holy **** this card – I can’t wait! – Minh Nguyen
  • This is here because I think it has scary potential, but I haven’t tried to figure it out yet, if not could be below Caiera. – Lamby

1. Caiera – 228 points

Everyone assumed that Caiera, as a well-statted tech card, would shake up the meta. That immediately seems to be the case; it’s an extremely high-powered card that protects some of the most vulnerable synergies in the game (notably, the new Season Pass card Skaar). The real secret sauce for me, though, is that this protects Blob. Blob is among the strongest cards in the game – in terms of raw stats, the very most powerful – and Caiera means only Shadow King, Valkyrie, Alioth, or pure luck can counter it.

The protection of 1-Cost cards isn’t to be underrated, either. There’s always the fan favorite deck Ka-Zoo, but High Evolutionary and Thanos both love having their cheap and big cards protected at the same time.

  • I think Caiera is far and away the best card this upcoming season. Tech cards that have a widespread effect on the board in this fashion have proven to be very strong. And Caiera offers the first widespread counter to Killmonger and Shang-Chi that we’ve ever seen. – GamingwithFlash
  • Super strong tech, with a super solid stat line. Can never go wrong with that combo, honestly I see its power having to be lowered eventually. – W
  • Caiera has the ability to keep your 1- and 6-Cost cards safe against foes like Killmonger or Shang-Chi, so as an avid Shenaut player, she seems the most useful to me.- Shneerp
  • Simple to use. Thanos Blob loves it. – den
  • Busted. – SafetyBlade
  • Too powerful in the right decks. – Kirallas
  • Her 1-Cost protection is MUCH more meaningful than her 6-Cost protection. She can’t protect cards from Alioth, Valkyrie, or Shadow King. How much 6-Cost protection does she add that Armor doesn’t already offer at a lower cost? Zoo is good in Series 3+ if you take away the Killmonger weakness. – LaurenWhatevs
