Marvel Snap May 2024 Datamined Card Reviews and Decks

The newly datamined cards for the May 2024 Season are awesome! Are they worth saving up for? Here's a breakdown of Blink, Nocturne, Sage, Namora, and Sasquatch in more detail.

Marvel Snap’s March 2024 patch just dropped, and with it, we have new datamined cards. Glenn Jones and his team have been killing recent card designs, and I, for one, could not wait to talk about the newly datamined May 2024 Season cards. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Snap Judgments production if we didn’t give you decks. Let’s go!

Let me know if you’d like to see a similar article for the newly updated April 2024 Season datamine in the comments!

This guide is for upcoming future content. All details are not final and may change upon release. Check out our datamining article for more information!

Blink

The May Season Pass card is set to be Blink, who, as of this datamine got a whole rework! She’s now a [5/7], a stat line that should ring some bells, as that’s where the effects that Second Dinner is scared of like Black Bolt and Legion landed. With those numbers, she swaps the last card you played with a higher-cost card from your deck.

That’s insane. With Hope Summer in Marvel Snap, it’s incredibly easy to make sure the last card you played is cheap enough that Hope can usually cheat out a powerful, end-game style of card. The obvious home for this is Thanos. After a Hope Summers play allowing for an extra stone, she has massive utility. You can end game try for a Blob or Shang-Chi or mid-game go get a Mockingbird or Cull Obsidian.

Thanos isn’t the only home for Blink though – with Pixie in the meta, we’ve seen a lot of decks run low and high-cost cards, particularly the Revis deck featured below. The ability to turn that card into a 6 in a deck that basically only runs ones and sixes is amazing. Blink isn’t great right after Pixie, but in any game in which you don’t see that card, Blink offers another way to get big power onto the board. This theory should also work in Zoo decks, as making a used Elektra or Iceman into Blue Marvel or Ka-Zar seems pretty great.

Nocturne

Not too long ago, [3/5] was a premium stat line. When Spider-Man moved down to it, only he, Deathlok, and Polaris were able to boast those stats for a 3 without a major downside. Well since then, Ghost, Lady Sif, Wave, Corvus Glaive, and Black Swan all either became or were created there, too.

Nocturne is the latest card to join them, and I think she’s stellar. She’s not a strict upgrade on Scarlett Witch or Rhino – she takes two turns to activate, one to play and one to move, but with her on the board, there’s an amazing threat of activation, a question of when and where a location will be saved. If she becomes a regular meta card, she changes the game. Can Magik exist in a world where Nocturne sees play?

Her move ability also comes with a ton of synergy. Elsa Bloodstone, Hope Summers, Angela, Kraven… all of these cards are thrilled for another on-demand move. That ability on a [3/5] works and is powerful – we know that because of Spider-Man. Well, when we add the ability to control locations, including reaching into difficult ones, is absolutely an ability people can and will play. This deck, with Gladiator, is the current #2 deck in Snap, and it fits Nocturne perfectly.

Sage

Sage is the card I least like this coming month. She can be a [4/7] only given her baseline stats, so I assume, since that’s just more expensive Wolfsbane, she’ll work based on the opponent’s side of the board, too. That can give her an extra 6 to a [4/13]. If you build specifically for her, she’s likely to be about a [4/9], which seems… fine but not really worth the trouble.

At first, I thought she was further exploring the Ms. Marvel design space, but she reads power, not cost, so instead, her home has to be decks running Ravonna Renslayer or Zabu. Those two cards can make her cost two, which suddenly makes her a good deal, but we can do better…

This is a Mister Negative card, and while I want to scoff at a card that’s pretty clearly best in Mister Negative and lacks other great homes, well, I can’t. Mister Negative was just number 1 on Infinite Ladder last season, and no less than Glenn Jones had a stellar Negative deck that took off last season. I don’t love this, but it’s playable in its specific home. I hope I’m wrong and there’s more.

Namora

Okay, Namora is a good card that supports a VERY not-good archetype. Namor and Orka are cards that barely see play… because they aren’t really good. They had a small moment at the release Ms. Marvel and this ability gives them that same chance to shine again.

Namora is [5/15] when she works fully, absolutely huge, but she makes Namor represent 15 Power in a lane and Orka 21 more (though you’ll need to somehow play her last). That can win some games, and Mister Fantastic adds two more power to the pie for 17 and 23. The issue is that it’s just so vulnerable. A Goblin, a Debrii, a Shang-Chi or an Enchantress… all of those can ruin your play.

So what if that play is just an option? If you can ramp into Black Panther and then play her, that’s 13 power. Arnim Zola now looks better. Does that make her good enough? It’s better, for sure. Would Sandman help? Alioth and Shang-Chi mean I think this probably still isn’t very good, but it’s at the very least very interesting.

And what about Deadpool? Or Kitty Pryde? With some ramp, and Hope Summers or X-23 ramp, a play of either alone on a lane with Namora could be huge. I really do think there’s a way to break this, and I’m excited to try to find it.

Sasquatch

This is the card of the month. Big cards that get cheaper are extremely strong in Marvel Snap, from She-Hulk to Evolved Abomination to Skaar to Mockingbird, this type of card always finds a home. Well, Sasquatch’s home is very simple to find.

For Sasquatch decks, you want to play a ton of cards on turn 5. There are a few ways to do that. February’s Season Pass card Black Swan seems tailor-made for this, as dropping a bunch of 1s after a turn 4 Swan seems easy enough. The March Season Pass card, Hope Summers, can lead to a huge energy turn 5. If it does so, there should be plenty of energy to play everything and give you a 1 or 2 10 for the last turn.

Long-term readers know my favorite thing is bounce, and this is one hell of a bounce card. Mysterio and Hit-Monkey on turn 5 give you a 2-Cost Sasquatch while also making Mockingbird cost 2. That’s 19 power for 4 energy on the last turn, and it’s possible to get both cards cost down lower with say a Wasp and a Demon. That, after the huge power of the previous turn’s play, seems like an absolute blast of a way to dominate in Marvel Snap.

Closing

That’s it for our early look at May cards. This Season isn’t “broken” except for maybe Sasquatch, but these are interesting and fun designs that should lead us to new decks. If you’d like an updated article for the April changes, let me know in the comments.
