Skaar and Caiera Decks: Bonus Challenge (Weekend Mission) Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Bonus Challenge (Weekend Missions) featuring Caiera and Skaar! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Bonus Challenge! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold!

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission.

There will be Bonus Challenge Missions available for each new card release to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens and subsidize their cost. Players can also expect the rewards to be stabilized at 200 Tokens to help them plan their token budget for the month.

Bonus Challenge: January 6, 2024

This week’s Bonus Challenge Missions are:

Mission#Reward
Win a Location with 20 or More Power10200 Credits
Win with Skaar starting in your Deck8150 Gold
Win with Caiera starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Skaar and Caiera.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Performance

Skaar Meta Stats
Caiera Meta Stats

To kick off the Planet Hulk season we have two new cards that we welcomed to Marvel Snap: Skaar, the Season Pass Card, and Caiera, a new Series 5 cards. And they both came with a lot of hype. Skaar represented another member of the Hulk family that becomes cheaper with 10+ power cards you get down on the board.

Caiera was even more anticipated because it represents universal protection for two of the most vulnerable card types, 1- and 6-Cost cards. The experimentation has been wild, but have they lived up to the hype, or do they fall short of impacting the game in a significant way?

As a mother and son pair, the two cards synergize well with each other. Skaar represents big stats on a 6-Cost card and Caiera protects it from all destruction. The cross over synergy is most realized along with High Evolutionary. This deck includes several high value 1-Cost cards and often runs other big 6-drops like Evolved Hulk and She-Hulk. The only issue is that Caiera and Skaar lead the deck away from the cost reduction synergies that support Abomination, and you can end up limited in your final plays because to this.

There are a few directions you can try, such as Moon Girl or just Leech. However, the card that was disappointing in this strategy was Skaar. It often just wouldn’t be needed since double She-Hulk and Evolved Hulk was often more than enough.

The best 6-drop to pair with Skaar was easily She-Hulk. She-Hulk can come down early and enable Skaar while being protected by Caiera. This combination of Skaar and She-Hulk can be used to support other decks based around Skaar as well.

Thanos was the second deck that looked like it would benefit from both cards. In practice, this direction found the opposite issue. Caiera often felt unnecessary because Thanos decks have plenty of 10+ power cards that are spread out, so having universal protection was not super helpful. It was better to simply lean into enabling Skaar more by using cards like Killmonger and Death along with Lockjaw.

The weakness into Shang-Chi still exists, but cards like Leech can cover this weakness better than Caiera since decks that aimed to hard counter Caiera started to show up across the meta. This often resulted in 0- or 2-Cost Skaars that could be played alongside other cards on Turn 6.

For Caiera, one deck that did better than expected was the Shanna Flood deck. This deck is one of the more accessible ways to use Caiera, and it can often come down late with Shanna to surprise your opponent with more power than they expected. This direction can be outclassed by the decks that go really tall with cards like Shuri and Taskmaster, but it is still a great way to use Caiera. The card is an absolute MVP here and enables this deck to survive.

For Skaar, the deck that took some work but came together to be surprisingly effective was Shuri. The deck required the Sauron package to be dropped, but, by using big cards and She-Hulk, you could often get Skaar down to a 2-Cost, which was enough to play it on Turn 6 with Shuri. This deck looked to just go big on one lane before overwhelming another lane on Turn 6.

Both cards have made an impact by supporting some decks that have been on the sidelines for some time, but neither of them have completely changed the meta. This may seem underwhelming, but both of these cards are good enough to have an ongoing involvement in Marvel Snap decks. Skaar will be always considered with decks like Thanos and Lockjaw that want to play big things out quickly. Caiera will always have to be considered with decks looking to fill the board with cards that are vulnerable to tech cards. This week, though, you won’t need either of these cards to compete since you can counter them or play other decks. Still, the potential for both of these to end up as core cards enabling top decks is easy to see.

So, how do you use Skaar and Caiera to rack up wins and complete the Weekend Challenge Missions?

This first deck is one of the most effective ways to include both cards. You have the strong 1-drop package for High Evolutionary, as well as the strong Moon Girl package from High Evolutionary. The trick is to identify when to skip early for double She-Hulk on Turn 6 and when you want to Leech on Turn 5 and go for the more traditional She-Hulk plus Evolved Hulk on Turn 7.

While the above deck requires you to manage your hand and decide when to drop stats, the better direction for High Evolutionary could be with Caiera. This deck just goes in on the 1-drops and a cheap Evolved Abomination. Caiera is here to make Sunspot and Nebula extra annoying, and the rest of the deck tries to reduce the cost of Evolved Abomination for a flexible final turn.

This Shuri deck looks to do the thing without Sauron by using the She-Hulk package to support Skaar. It also uses Attuma as another early 10 power card. You also have Ms. Marvel since it is the best 4-drop in the game (instead of running more 10 power support). In practice, this allows the deck to compete better across the field, and Ms. Marvel and Skaar are usually both playable on Turn 6 together. Combining those two cards can be a very flexible finisher in games.

Sauron is still a great card, though, so you can also go with this route. It’s a real simple trade off: on Turn 3, play either Sauron or Caiera and adapt accordingly. Skaar can come down on Turn 6 with the switched off cards like Lizard and Ebony Maw, and, with a perfect run, can even be played alongside Typhoid Mary on Turn 6.

This list is one of the contenders for the top deck right now, but the Killmonger and Death package could be better than including Caiera here for now. You can get 10+ power cards down quickly and overwhelm all the lanes at once. The goal is to just drop more stats than the opponent can handle and win the game.

Both of the new cards can be included in Thanos, but you need to make sure you keep a focus on 6-drops to make Caiera worthwhile. This build foregoes some of the usual staples like Devil Dinosaur and Blue Marvel in favor of more 6-drops to ramp into and/or support Skaar. Caiera gets more value since the 10+ power cards are also 6-Costs, which makes it necessary to counter (or the stats are staying on the board).

Last up is good ol’ Zoo. You can change the make up of the 1-drops based on your collection pretty easily, and the combination of Ka-Zar and Blue Marvel can spread a surprising amount of power around the board. Caiera is key since your opponent has to get through it to kill your 1-drops. Shanna can also refill the board easily with 1-drops, and this can set up for some nasty Valkyrie plays. I experimented with Shang-Chi and other tech cards, but the 1-drops and Ongoing buffs lead to Valkyrie stealing more big wins. It can get through opposing Caiera plays, for example, and, when paired with Echo and Ghost, it can be supported on most lanes. Bast may not have many hits here, but the small buffs can add up while having only a small anti synergy with Ka-Zar and Caiera.

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
