Mockingbird and Hope Summers Decks: Bonus Challenge (Weekend Mission) Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Bonus Challenge (Weekend Missions) featuring Mockingbird and Hope Summers! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Bonus Challenge! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold!

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission.

There will be Bonus Challenge Missions available for each new card release to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens and subsidize their cost. Players can also expect the rewards to be stabilized at 200 Tokens to help them plan their token budget for the month.

Bonus Challenge: March 15, 2024

This week’s Bonus Challenge Missions are:

Mission#Reward
Play On Reveal Cards25200 Credits
Win with Mockingbird starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens
Win with Hope Summers starting in your Deck8150 Gold

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Mockingbird and Hope Summers.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Performance

Mockingbird Meta Stats

The Avengers vs. X-Men season continues with the release of Mockingbird this week. This card reduces in cost for every card on your side of the board that didn’t start in your deck. This includes any generated card, even from locations and Infinity Stones. With so many ways to discount the card, it was unlikely to be bad. But just how strong has it been in practice?

Two cards immediately come to mind when considering cards that did not start in your deck. Thanos was always likely to be successful for Mockingbird. The entire early game plan of Thanos decks is to play cards that did not start in your deck. It is not difficult for Mockingbird to cost two or three energy by Turn 3. This deck alone was likely to make Mockingbird a success on release.

The other of the two big cards was Loki. It was not immediately obvious if Mockingbird would be successful with this one, but the adjustment to Cable gave another way to get cards down early to reduce Mockingbird‘s cost. Well, it turns out that getting her down to a 3-Cost by Turn 4 or Turn 5 is more than enough for her to be included in a deck. This demonstrates how Mockingbird just provides more stats than other options, as, even in a deck focused on swapping hands at some point, having Mockingbird and playing her instead can often be the correct play.

With Thanos often reducing Mockingbird to zero and Loki finding her useful as even a 3- or 4-Cost, she really is flexible. The only issue is you have to build your deck to play cards that did not start there, and she provides so much value that she essentially forces you to question why you’re not playing these styles of decks. It may seem like a big statement, but other decks are not getting three energy for nine power that often, and this puts the decks that can generate value out of this card way ahead. The stat line is often not able to be countered, and it puts you ahead and in a position to stay ahead.

One deck that abuses this well is the Brood deck because it can easily reduce Mockingbird‘s cost, play the nine power to stay ahead, and then drop Alioth on Turn 6. She can often she can be paired on Turn 5 with Silver Surfer or Patriot, sealing the game early and consistently. This deck seems to be rising once again to be the bar to compete against. It’s not the most flexible deck, but with enough games it will climb.

These three cards all generate multiple cards and are great examples of the other way for Mockingbird to be useful. Mysterio alone brings Mockingbird down to a 2-Cost and can allow for many different combinations to be achieved. Bringing her down drastically allows her to be the swing card at the end of the game, or the mid game stats to get ahead when you have follow up plays to make.

Mobius M. Mobius is good early, but it’s not the perfect counter to Mockingbird. This is due to how often decks can play her on Turn 3 or Turn 4. Regardless, if you have this card, trying to include him in every deck right now (that isn’t just going for maximum stats to win games) is recommended. This limits what decks can compete since you have to be thinking about paying three energy for three power and being OK with this as your Turn 3 play.

Overall, rarely is an opinion on a new card this strong early on. Alongside Hope Summers, Mockingbird is a card that appears to give a significant advantage if you own it right now. The decks with her are more flexible and often just produce more stats per lane than the competition.

So, how do you use Hope Summers and Mockingbird to rack up wins and complete the Bonus Challenge Missions?

If you want the simplest and most consistent way to play with the card, here it is. The Brood deck puts down stats easily and reduces Mockingbird‘s cost without having to deviate from or consider new play lines. This makes it a great deck for Ladder once you become used to understanding when you’re ahead and behind. Forge into Brood into Absorbing Man is often game over, but the Ongoing cards paired with Iron Lad can also make the deck able to surprise opponents.

Thanos almost builds itself at the moment, so here is a different take on the archetype for your consideration. This one brings back everyone’s favorite dog, Lockjaw! Here the pup acts as a second energy cheat engine alongside Hope Summers. This just gives you two shots at finding a card that abuses the Stones. With Mockingbird reducing in cost as you play the Stones, the downside of rolling a Stone could now be a big positive.

Zoo is the most accessible deck that is improved by Mockingbird, so to finish things out this week I went to the drawing board to bring you a budget Mockingbird and Hope Summers list. Rogue and Armor can be flexed in and out depending what you see, but they’re here as ways to be proactive against Destroy or Discard’s Morbius while countering Mobius M. Mobius.

This Zoo list has the Moon Girl high roll into two discounted Mockingbirds and She-Hulks. This allows for the deck to hold power or just go for stats on curve. You also don’t need to own any other Series 4 or 5 cards, but, if you want to try other cards, the core is of this deck Squirrel Girl, Mysterio, Moon Girl, Blue Marvel, and She-Hulk. Everything else could be changed out. This is a fun way to be a hipster while playing the new cards and completing the quests.

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!

Good Luck, Have Fun, and Stay Safe!
