Proxima Midnight and Black Swan Decks: Bonus Challenge (Weekend Mission) Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Bonus Challenge (Weekend Missions) featuring Proxima Midnight and Black Swan! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Bonus Challenge! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold!

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission.

There will be Bonus Challenge Missions available for each new card release to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens and subsidize their cost. Players can also expect the rewards to be stabilized at 200 Tokens to help them plan their token budget for the month.

Bonus Challenge: March 1, 2024

This week’s Bonus Challenge Missions are:

Mission#Reward
Win a Location with only 1 Card3200 Credits
Win with Proxima Midnight starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens
Win with Black Swan starting in your Deck8150 Gold

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Black Swan and Proxima Midnight.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Proxima Midnight Meta Stats

Proxima Midnight is the final member of the Black Order to join Marvel Snap this season. It arguably has the narrowest effect of the season with the simple ability of jumping to your lowest power location when discarded. Is this reliance to being discarded too big of a limitation for Proxima Midnight, or is it just what the archetype needed to rise back into the meta conversation?

The card can be removed from your hand very consistently with the range of discard tools now available. Blade and MODOK can guarantee hits, and you have many multi-card discards available now with Corvus Glaive and Hellcow. This allows Proxima Midnight to be very effective in its obvious home: basic discard decks. It is good enough in these decks that I can confidently say building Discard decks without this card going forward will likely feel like building an inferior version of the deck. If you were a fan of discard before, you will find that Proxima Midnight has a lot of uses.

The other big factor playing in favor for Discard is the high number of beneficial cards now in the deck. Turn 5 MODOK can now produce a lot of value that can overwhelm the board. The problem the deck still has is consistency; without the old America Chavez, it can sometimes feel like you’re drawing blank. This, in turn, raises the real problem for this card: it is a one trick card. Experiments earlier in the release aimed to try and produce Good Cards packages with it, and, while these decks can be effective, it became apparent very quickly that its one real home is pure Discard.

Two other enabler cards show some potential with Proxima Midnight if you want to explore the missions without having to go all-in on Discard. Loki decks with Helicarrier can benefit from the additional target for the discard effects to sometimes get value. These builds can be more finicky, though, so I would not recommended purchasing Proxima Midnight just for them. Still, they can be fun ways to use the card where you wouldn’t normally.

In summary, Proxima Midnight is a solid performer in the archetypes that its effect works with. Outside of this, though, it’s easy to skip this card and not miss out.

So, how do you use Black Swan and Proxima Midnight to rack up wins and complete the Bonus Challenge Missions?

Discard is the place to go if you want the fully-powered Proxima Midnight experience. This deck is the one posting the best results, and it does the thing consistently. It can sometimes lose to itself and fall short in power, but this deck is what you should be playing to complete the Bonus Challenge Missions as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Loki was one of the first directions explored outside of discard due to the cross synergy with The Collector. In practice, it ended up feeling like too many moving pieces. Corvus Glaive was an early addition to the deck, but it seems to be more consistent to just play MODOK and Morbius and keep dumping your hand as a backup plan. With MODOK, you’re always hitting Helicarrier and Proxima Midnight if they’re in your hand, and you’re buffing your board at the same time.

In this deck, Proxima Midnight is an excellent target when you empty your hand on the final turn via Blade, and it allows you to play more power during the final turn when you’re trying to isolate Destroyer or The Infinaut for the Dracula play. Black Swan just helps you empty all the pesky 1-drops from your hand on the later turns in order to hit these combinations.
