Conquest Medal Shop Guide: Economy Breakdown and the Best Strategies for Farming

In this guide Kirallas analyzes the Conquest Medal Shop, breaks down all possible strategies for getting and spending Medals, and gives some tips on effective Medal farming.

With the introduction of Conquest mode, players gained access to the new Medal currency and the corresponding Medal Shop. In this guide, we’ll look at how to spend Medals, how to get them, and we will also look at other ways you can use the new Conquest mode. Keep in mind that this is a more advanced guide, so we advise you to read our article on Conquest Mode first:

How to Get Medals Efficiently

There are only two ways to get Medals: win games in Conquest mode or enter the tier above Proving Grounds to get a small amount of free Medals. So if you win a game in the Proving Grounds you get 15 Medals and a Silver Ticket, which, when used to enter the Silver Tier, immediately gives you 20 Medals. Similarly with other Tiers, but the requirements as well as the rewards increase with each Tier.

Let’s break down the time costs for each Tier to find the best strategy to get as many Medals per hour as possible.

Basic scenario

Let’s first look at the basic scenario when you just use one of the best decks and go play Conquest. In this example, we assume that every game in the Conquest mode lasts 15 minutes, you and the opponent play as quickly as possible with a win rate of 60%. Also, the calculations take into account that a ticket immediately gives you Medals when you start a game with it, so, for example, winning at Proving Grounds gives you 15+20 Medals, not just 15. Bayes’ theorem was used in the calculations, since victories in the same Tier, starting from the second, are possible only if there are victories earlier in the same series.

Each game lasts 15 minutes with winrate at 0.6

So below are the calculations with the given parameters (15 minutes per game, with a win rate of 0.6). The first chart shows the efficiency of playing on a particular Tier in a vacuum, just like if you could choose any Tier and play on it. The second chart, however, takes into account that you need to get tickets first by playing on lower Tiers, its reflects a whole strategy, such as “I play to Gold Tier and no higher”.

Up to Infinity5103285166+97%+23%
Medals per hour when evaluating Tiers cumulatively (as a part of the strategy in which you reach the desired Tier and don’t go higher).

The first thing you can see from the charts is that playing in the Gold Tier gives you the greatest increase in Medals per hour compared to lower Tier strategies. Also, even with this much data, you can see that Proving Grounds may be a good choice for farming Medals, since going to the Silver Tier gives a small 22% increase, when counting cumulatively.

And the cumulative calculation is what you want to evaluate first, since it’s closer to the real data, because you have to go through the lower levels anyway, when playing without spending Gold.

Each game lasts 15 minutes with different winrates

And now let’s look at the full picture, not limiting ourselves to the win rate, but given that the duration of a game is still 15 minutes. On all charts the dotted line indicates the win rate zone of most decks, so your deck is almost certainly in that range, not out of it.

Both top charts show the number of Medals per hour if the games are 15 minutes long. from here we see that the number of Medals per hour increases proportionally with the increase in Tier and win rate. This is good, it means that all Tiers are pretty well balanced in relation to each other.

Also here you can see an interesting point – to get 137 Medals per hour you need to have a win rate of 50%, if you choose a strategy of playing up to Infinity. But to get the same number of Medals per hour when playing on the lowest Tier you will need to have a win rate close to 100%.

If we talk about the percentage increase in the number of Medals per hour, the picture is slightly different. The red zones show the areas of smallest percentage gain compared to Proving Grounds or the previous Tier. So, for example, the strategy of playing up to Infinity gives the smallest percentage gain, compared to the proving grounds, at the win rate of 40-45%. In other words, you will lose less in terms of Medals per hour if you choose Proving Grounds for farming, by playing with a deck at this win rate.

Again, we can see that the biggest increase in Medals per hour comes from playing Gold Tier. It doesn’t mean that you get fewer Medals in Infinity, but it means that going from games up to Silver to games up to Gold gives a greater increase in Medals per hour than going from games up to Gold to games up to Infinity.

Thus, if your games are 15 minutes long, the rewards for the time spent increase proportionally. So even if you’re playing at 60% win rate in Proving Grounds, but then your win rate drops to 40% when playing in the Gold Tier, you still won’t lose out on the number of Medals per hour. In other words, with the same duration of games at any Tier, it’s more profitable for you to play in higher Tiers if you want to farm Medals as efficiently as possible.

Medals farming scenario

But after the advent of Conquest mode, the reality was different. The fact is that you do not have any penalty for losing in Proving Grounds, so many players snap on the first turn, play the game for 8 cubes and retreat if they lose the first round. The length of such a game is about 5 minutes. Yes, not every Proving Grounds game will be 5 minutes, but not every Gold Tier game will last 15 minutes either, especially since the higher the Tier, the more rounds and thinking time there will be. Most likely both of these values are slightly different in reality, but the proportion should be about the same.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at the distribution of Medals per hour by win rate. For these calculations, we assumed that the game in Proving Grounds lasts 5 minutes, and all games above it last 15 minutes.

So we get very interesting results. If players try to play Proving Grounds as quickly as possible, it becomes the most effective way to get Medals. At a win rate of 60% you will receive around 252 Medals per hour. For the same efficiency you will need a 85% win rate if you want to go higher up to Infinity Tier after playing these five minute games.

Probably because of how many players are now playing this strategy it will be more profitable for you to leave the game every time your opponent doesn’t snap with you on the first turn. This is so because you won’t lose anything anyway, but potentially your playing time could increase too much, resulting in a significant decrease in efficiency.

Besides, the strategy of playing Proving Grounds as quickly as possible is so effective that when comparing it head-to-head with Infinity Tier, it turns out that with a win rate above 40% it would still be more profitable to play Proving Grounds! Yes, that’s impossible, because you can’t just start playing Infinity Tier right away, bypassing the early Tiers, but this comparison is meant to give you an idea of how effective such a strategy is.

The percentage difference distribution has remained about the same, mostly the numbers have changed, since under these conditions, playing other Tiers compared to Proving Grounds often becomes not profitable at all.

Conclusions

There could be many more examples of different game durations, but this is unnecessary, because there will be one conclusion – if players play Proving Grounds as quick as possible and try not to go beyond 1-2 rounds, then playng Proving Grounds is the most profitable strategy in terms of Medals per hour.

To be specific, by playing such a quick strategy in Proving Grounds you will receive an average of 231 Medals per hour. But if everyone plays full-length games, you’ll get 151 Medals per hour if you play up to Infinity and you can only count on 77 Medals per hour if you play 15 minute games in Proving Grounds.

Decks to Farm Medals

You probably have a reasonable question about what decks are best to use for farming. And the answer is – the ones you feel comfortable on! If your goal is to get Medals, your best bet is to farm Proving Grounds. That’s why it’s best for you to choose a deck that you play well and feel comfortable with. Also it’s better to avoid decks with many different options for each turn, such as Bounce decks. And vice versa, decks that have straightforward gameplay with a clear win condition are better suited for Medal farming (Sera Surfer, Galactus and Lockjaw decks).

The most important thing in a farming deck is the least amount of mistakes to make when playing, as well as a minimum of negative emotions and maximum comfort in the process. Even the above-mentioned decks are just a couple of examples, in fact, any deck with a win rate of at least 50 percent will do very well. Nevertheless, I’ll leave here a couple of specific examples that would be good for leisurely farming Medals.

Medal Shop

Now let’s talk about the Medal Shop. Everything in it is sold for Medals, and the only way to get them without winning any games is to buy a ticket directly and leave immediately to get the corresponding amount of currency:

Silver TicketGold TicketInfinity Ticket
Ticket Price80200500
Medal count2040100
Medals per Gold0.250.20.2

So the most profitable and direct way to convert Gold into Medals is to buy a ticket to the Silver Tier and leave. Using this method you will receive 0.25 Medals per Gold, which is very low and certainly shouldn’t be your main way of getting Medals. Nevertheless, we’ll take this value into account a little further down in the article to see how much the featured variant might cost you.

As for the best way to spend your Medals, it’s simple – buy whatever you have enough Medals for, giving priority to currencies, then buying cosmetics and then everything else.

Buying Guide for June 2023

As for more specific advice, here’s a chart with a breakdown of the cheapest and best buy to get a featured variant in June 2023.

The cheapest buying strategy involves, of course, buying everything that is cheapest in the Medal Shop. This is a hypothetical option for those who have too little time left to get enough Medals before the end of the season.

In turn, the best strategy is to buy everything valuable. In this recommendation chart, the final, ninth item is 75 Green Goblin Boosters for 200 Medals. Of course, you can argue and say that it’s better to buy an Infinity Ticket and try to get even more Medals and an improved avatar frame. But winning 5 times in a row with this exact Ticket is unlikely, and since this is your ninth purchase, you probably don’t need more Medals anyway.

You can also buy an avatar for 1000 Medals, but probably if you can afford it, you’ve already bought all the other items as well, so you don’t really need these recommendations.

Thus, the minimum possible number of Medals to get the Green Goblin Variant is 1,490. And to get the best of everything (except the avatar) you will need 2,340 Medals. Or 5,960 and 9,360 Gold, respectively.

Overall Conclusion

To summarize, your best strategy for the Medal Shop is to farm Proving Grounds, trying to win in 1-2 rounds with snapping on the first turn. Alternatively, if you really like this mode you can just play for fun and you will still have enough Medals. The same goes for competitive players trying to make their way to the top.

After that, you should buy whatever you can afford, considering the time left to the end of the season. Any currency and cosmetics are good for buying. Only the avatar is worth buying at the very end for those who got that many Medals.
