Blob and Sebastian Shaw Decks: Weekend Challenge Mission Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Weekend Challenge Missions featuring Blob and Sebastian Shaw! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Weekend Missions! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold! This week’s Weekend Challenges are:

Mission#Reward
Win a Location with 4 Cards6200 Credits
Win with Sebastian Shaw starting in your Deck8150 Gold
Win with Blob starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission. There will be Weekly Missions available for each new card release. The goal of Weekly Missions is to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens from new cards and subsidize their cost.

The token missions are expected to differ from week to week, depending on the card. For example, three wins for 100 Collector’s Tokens, four wins for 300, and five wins for 500, depending on the week (1,000 Collector’s Tokens is on the highest end).

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Blob and Sebastian Shaw.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Blob is the first Series 5 card of the Hellfire Gala season, and what an impact it has made. The potential was always there, but I think we underestimated just how big the card would be and how it would change the landscape of what is playable in Marvel Snap. But is it a must-buy, or is this just a lot of first week blubber?

Thanos was the absolute winner after the release of Blob for a few key reasons. First, Thanos has more cards, which equals more power on Blob. This is not the only reason, though, and potentially not even the most important reason. Blob also has excellent synergy with Professor X. If you can win one lane early, you need a strong way to win another lane.

Without priority, Blob is potentially the best card in the game at winning a lane for six energy. This can be used to flip lanes that appear lost or just contest any other 6-drop. This concept fits perfectly in Thanos because it wants to play lots of cards with good effects that sometimes have low power. Finally, the third reason is because it completely counters what was one of the worst match ups: Darkhawk. This limits the range of decks that counter the game plan.

The other direction takes full advantage of the card and is unlikely to ever be the same. That is the classic Ramp archetype with Electro and Wave. This deck can get Blob out on Turn 5, and then the power can be duplicated across the board with Arnim Zola or Taskmaster. This will often overwhelm the power output of most decks (if it’s not countered), and that makes Blob core to the future of the archetype.

Shuri was the first thought for many, but, unfortunately, it just doesn’t work how you would like. Sauron was and still is the best card with Shuri, and it is a bad card with Blob. Combinations with Blob and Taskmaster can work, but they are often are sitting ducks for Shadow King. Shuri decks without Sauron are great with Blob, but they do not elevate the archetype enough to say they are a home for Blob. They also highlight the weakness of the card: Shang-Chi and Shadow King are horrible to play against if you’re looking to play Blob early in the game.

Is Blob good? Well, yes. Marvel Snap is a game about getting the biggest numbers in each lane, and Blob is often the biggest number. However, Blob is beatable. Shang-Chi and Shadow King totally negate the card, and there are already decks emerging that play efficient stats to keep up with Thanos early. I’m confident that Blob is a new core piece for Thanos and Ramp decks because it covers weaknesses they had before. The strategies have not changed significantly, and, outside of these decks, the new card was lackluster at times. Nonetheless, it’s a very strong card in the right deck.

So, how do you use Blob to rack up wins and complete the Weekend Challenge Missions?

We start with how to play Blob and Sebastian Shaw together. This deck aims to use Okoye and Nakia to buff your hand of Infinity Stones to spread across the board. This is a flood strategy that is supported by Sebastian Shaw and Blob, but it maintains the Professor X Turn 5 play. You have Blue Marvel to spread power across the board, as well as Alioth as the other 6-Cost of choice since you can often end up with priority and seal a lane with this deck.

Here is a Thanos deck without an attempt to include the Sebastian Shaw package. This deck uses the Stones as your early game, aims to ramp into a 5-drop on Turns 4 and 5, and follows that with Blob or Alioth as the finishing touch. It is incredibly effective, and Blob has revitalized this deck by giving it another strong finisher, and, therefore, the deck is now less reliant on Professor X on Turn 5 into Alioth. Blob also flips the match against the strongest counter to Professor X-style decks: Good Cards decks based around Darkhawk.

Now, if you’re playing Blob more, you want to stack your deck with more stats – but those cards still have to be playable. That’s where the other strong Thanos direction goes. It plays good value cards that add up to a massive Blob on the final turns. The version that I have found the most success with comes from DougPie. This version is also cheaper than others with Gladiator being replaceable by Maximus. Here you look to lock a lane in the same way as the other Thanos decks, but you have a much bigger Blob on average due to the average stat lines in the deck.

The other direction that was improved by Ramp also suffered from good, efficient stats being played by Darkhawk decks. This deck also really likes cards that can confidently win lanes – especially if it’s built to limit what can be played. Blob is a natural fit in Ramp and will likely remain one of the key cards to include going forward.

This first version looks to leverage Sandman and Arnim Zola as ways to spread power, but you also carry Taskmaster to copy an early Blob (if you can get it down). This is supported by two high-stat 6-drops that make Blob worthwhile by themselves (Orka and Magneto), but they can also be played onto the board on Turn 6 to win games.

Fair warning, this next one is infinitely harder to play than the first Ramp deck. But it demonstrates how Blob opens up options for these kinds decks. It is also a lot of fun when it comes together. In this deck, Attuma can be played under Armor or just feed Blob another 10 power. You have Aero and Vision as two of the best 5-drops to include (they both have good stats and utility), and you have multiple ways of getting Blob out early.

The Living Tribunal is the spice; you can stack Blob with Taskmaster on the Armor lane and simply play The Living Tribunal to spread your power. This version is better in Conquest where you can be more confident about what you’re playing around as the match goes on.

Hela saw a lot of experimentation, so I’m including a version here with Wave as the Ramp tool to discuss why this is not an upgrade for this deck. The issue here is that Blob necessitates including more big cards than the Hela Tribunal deck usually likes. This actually reduces the consistency of the deck – and it’s still just dead to Alioth. You are also adding another two bad hits for Iron Lad with Blob and Giganto, which ruins the whole premise of the deck: always hitting your key cards. This is fun, though, and you may find that fun is the direction you want to take this weekend.

The traditional Shuri list simply does not work out. Sauron takes away Blob‘s power, and you add yet another fragile payoff to the deck. This leads to situations where you end up hard countered too often, which makes Blob almost a dead draw at times. However, the other “bad cards” can still support Blob in certain decks. This version is the one I found the most success with. It allows you to play stats all game to overpower at least one lane, and then Blob can come down over the top of most decks you will play against.

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
