Will we be correct in our assessments?

5. Cannonball – 121 points

The most common refrain from everyone voting this month is that were were simply no bad cards. Many believe Cannonball is just the worst of a series of really powerful new cards, and a few even voted before they had processed his text change from what was basically Stegron to Stegron but for the highest power card with a destroy kicker if the card can’t move.

That’s crazy strong, with or without the destroy. Winning a lane is essentially half the job of winning a game, and few cards are better at it than Cannonball. At 5-8, he seems like it might be difficult to grab a win since 8 is mediocre from a 5, but within his lane, he’s 8 + the power he removed. That means he’s easily a 5 for 15 or more power in a lane if he moves a simple Legion. Add in moving a Devil Dinosaur or Magnetp or just blowing up a Blob? It’s easy to see him being one of the best cards of the month.

He was, in fact, my #1.

  • I was kinda down on this month but, like, Cannonball being #4 is wild cuz I think he’s gonna be above average – Paper
  • This card seems like it could be super powerful against lockdown or junk decks that may have full locations. Having the ability to destroy cards that can’t move could also be super good in destroy decks! – Shneerp
  • Second Shang-Chi for a lot of decks. Looking forward to using in Galactus, too! – Interrobang
  • I am mega excited about this card for my movement control pet deck. I don’t know how much it will move the needle, but for me this is likely going to be the most fun. – Teebs
  • 90% of the time he just moves a card, but sometimes he acts like a bad Shang-Chi. Why do we need a bad Shang-Chi in a movement deck? In other decks, he’s just a slightly better Stegron. – Kirallas
  • I want Cannonball for Lockdown with Alioth when the War Machine week is done. – SnapVariants
  • I have Cannonball ranked last but can still see it being a very strong and versatile card. – YoWoodyMJ
  • Cannonball looks like a fun clog/destroy card. – KingofCanada
  • Cannonball (1) has one of the best stat lines in the game, destroys threats, and can even be synergistic. – Bradcifer
  • Huge lane swings. Exploitable. Chant with me: Backup Valk! Backup Valk! Targeting the highest power enemy card changes everything. This ain’t your daddy’s Stegron. The most flexible this season, but still narrow because he’s best on the last turn. Fun in Junk. – LaurenWhatevs

4. Pixie – 122 points

All the rankings here took place before the season. I would have told you, at that point, that Pixie was going to be busted or terrible. I would have been wrong.

Pixie is a good card in anything running high and low energy cards with little in between and forms a really strong package with just herself and Mobius M. Mobius. You can go more all in through various means, but often, she works like a mid-range Lockjaw, allowing you to be intimidating with Snaps and steal cubes.

This week is likely also around as bad as she’ll ever be. Her release has put Mobius in many opposing decks, and Mobius being in her Spotlight Caches gives many new players a chance to try that card out. As Mobius’ play rate goes down, Pixie‘s stock goes up.

  • Pixie is an actively bad card that will create fun highlight reels but not be competitively viable. – GunnyT
  • I might have Pixie low here, but with the right list ( think she can be DISGUSTING, just going to have to test all sorts of lists to see the right fitting. – Tuccrr
  • I have Pixie third but I’m not convinced Pixie shouldn’t be first. She seems difficult to make work but if there is a deck for her she is going to be insanely broken. – Peaceful Sea
  • Pixie might end up number one that card has a lot of potential. – W
  • I have no doubt that Pixie will be both complained about for being too good and also for being bad. – Revis
  • Pixie is an actively bad card that will create fun highlight reels but not be competitively viable. – GunnyT
  • There can be some crazy mind games with snaps after having played Pixie. – Sizer
  • Totally going to be fun to mess around with, FUN card, not as good as the others! – Zal Snap!
  • Could be a new powerful combo deck, on the good side of a weird card.- Roy Rogers
  • Pixie I hate because we need Mobius and I’m a Loki enjoyer. Also, Pixie adds RNG stats to the game and I hate that. – Evazord
  • I know I’m way higher than most. Maybe it’s all the Negative I’ve been playing. She’s great with Mobius, but will do fine when he’s not drawn (or she shuffles him too expensive). Making my weakest cards unplayable seems a small price to pay for making my strongest cards extremely playable. Those thighs make her #1 in my heart. – LaurenWhatevs

3. Mockingbird – 173 points

Mockingbird can, with very little work, be a 3-9, and, since we all just saw how good a 3-8 Gladiator can be, well, Mockingbird is all but assured to be great.

How easily can you get Mockingbird‘s cost down? Debrii or Squirrel Girl or Brood or Doctor Doom do it immediately. Thanos’ Infinity Stones count. Opponent uses Goblins, Rocks, or Black Widow? There’s a reduction. Locations like X-Mansion and such? Cheaper still. Mockingbird is going to be incredible.

The obvious meta home here is Thanos, as a few early Infinity Stones give you an extremely strong card to use with Professor X. Yes, War Machine will make that worse, but for at least two weeks, there are cubes to be won with this combo.

  • Thanos decks now have a 4/10 with Cull and 0/9-3/9 with Mockingbird. Big numbers = good. – Docty
  • Putting aside the Thanos and Loki of it all, this is a Squirrel Girl card, and she will hit the board before Mobius can get a word in edgewise. – Benjamin Roller
  • Another step towards a Thanos good stats deck. – JD Macdonaldinho
  • Cute design… not sure how effective she will be outside SHIELD or Thanos decks but she’s a new version of Death. – Bit Twiddle
  • I see really great synergy with Loki. Also the stat line is great and can’t be hit by Shang. – Gregor
  • So many archetypes can use this. – Nefherder
  • If there was an original Helicarrier enjoyer, it would be me. Or Dekkster. This gives a way to cheat out a big power card in a Discard archetype. I’m also a Discard main, so I’m biased here. Think of not only a cheap Mockingbird, but maybe a Black Bolt + Stature play too…very interesting cheap power potential. I’ll be running Helicarrier with her 100%. – Kawa Plays

2. Hope Summers – 221

I was lower on Hope than most, but again, I was quickly proven wrong. I didn’t think she’d be as good as she is in decks that flood big cards like High Evolutionary or Hela, and instead assumed her home to be more decks she’s also great in – Silky Smooth, Sera, and Bounce. Her versatility though, puts her into everything.

What’s really nice about her ubiquity, though, is that she doesn’t push any previous Tier 1 decks way ahead of the meta, but instead allows several decks that were close a vector to compete at the highest levels. She’s going to remain in an awful lot of decks, as she’s great without being broken, at least thus far, and feels a lot like Ms. Marvel in power level.

  • I think last 3 are pretty close, but Summers and War Machine will be meta-defining, at least for a little while – Ika
  • Ramping is powerful, there might be issues with activation, but even without playing cheap cards in the same turn, she can provide +1 Energy on turn 5, allowing you to play a 6-Energy card earlier. – Kirallas
  • Bounce and Zoo going pop off with Hope. – Combat
  • OMG- the synergy with Jeff and Kitty makes me excited for new bounce – DoeyKat
  • Anytime you can get extra energy, it expands what can be done with your deck using more powerful cards. I give that card my #1. – DenmanFalcon
  • Ramp is good. Many archetypes can support this; New Lockjaw/Thanos, Zoo. – NoLucksGiven
  • Hope Summers first – energy is just always good. – Sanutora
  • Wow, this card seems busted. Other ramp options offer such a drastic downside (Electro, Corvus). I think people are gonna find a way to break the game with her in a very real way. – Gnome Plays
  • She is one of the best season pass cards in a while. Se makes everyone forget about Lockjaw and Corvus and might bring silky smooth back into play as well as some other archetypes. – Prashaun
  • She is just too strong. I see her in Thanos for the ramping mechanics. OP. – Dott.Geo
  • Energy is good, 3/4 is decent. Probably the next 3-cost you can play in almost any deck if you don’t have an idea what should go there. – Den

1. War Machine – 222 points

If Hope Summers feels a lot like Ms. Marvel, the hype around War Machine feels a lot like Mobius M. Mobius. Here is what is sure to be a powerful tech card, well-statted and easy to play, that counters numerous meta bugaboos – Storm and Professor X – while also allowing you to cheat – The Infinaut and Ebony Maw, and occasionally means free Snaps with certain locations – Sanctum Sanctorum.

This card probably isn’t a deck, but it goes in a ton of decks and likely wins a lot of games that would be otherwise unwinnable without him. Jeff the Baby Land Shark gave us the perfect test case for how strong this effect is. Jeff had a period where he was perhaps the strongest and most versatile card in the game, so, yes, War Machine is going to be incredible.

  • While Pixie will become the RNG queen over Hela, War Machine will be an archetype-defining card that opens up control to all new heights. March is going to completely redefine Marvel Snap. – ItsGuestGaming
  • War Machine being a 1 turn Jeff for all your cards means lockdown is going away for a while – GamingwithFlashX
  • War Machine will be Broken – JJ Rolk
  • Breaks rules, you will be able to have power in hand whilst being a tech card. I can’t believe they are printing this. – Safetyblade
  • I think I am most afraid of War Machine. He is going to make playing Sandman a nightmare… – FaThorNewman
  • People are focusing on the Infinaut shenanigans, but forgetting that he turns all your cards into Jeff for a turn. He ignores Electro, Sandman & Maw. He will stick Galactus so far up your Sanctum, you won’t shit right for a month. He can be Zabu’d, and on top of all that, he’s got a decent stat line. He will be broken. – Monroe Bieler
  • Owi – Infinaut and Ebony playable after + ruin Lock decks.
  • Great stats, can play early or late – opens up mind games play patterns and lane abuse. Ramp into what would have been a bad Professor x to pre-seal a lane, War Machine on curve to win. – CablesDumbs
  • 4/6 allows him to appear in any deck with Zabu in it. – Xunnzz
  • Think it’s great, and Zabu probably makes it a superstar, but we only have 12 cards and Prof X isn’t that popular. – Den
  • Play any card wherever you want next turn? Into Prof X? Into Sanctum? Play Ebony Maw, Infinaut, Crossbones, or Cull Obsidian without fulfilling the requirements? I’m interested! – Phil Woodward
