Beta Ray Bill and Skaar Decks: Bonus Challenge (Weekend Mission) Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Bonus Challenge (Weekend Missions) featuring Beta Ray Bill and Skaar! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Bonus Challenge! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold!

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission.

There will be Bonus Challenge Missions available for each new card release to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens and subsidize their cost. Players can also expect the rewards to be stabilized at 200 Tokens to help them plan their token budget for the month.

Bonus Challenge: February 2, 2024

This week’s Bonus Challenge Missions are:

Mission#Reward
Win a Match with 40+ Total Power6200 Credits
Win with Beta Ray Bill starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens
Win with Skaar starting in your Deck8150 Gold

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Skaar and Beta Ray Bill.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Performance

Beta Ray Bill Meta Stats

Beta Ray Bill, the champion of old and cult hero, is our final Series 5 card for the Planet Hulk Season. The ability mirrors Thor by sending Stormbreaker into your deck. But with Beta, playing the hammer doubles the power of the card. So, is this just another version of Thor, or is Beta Ray Bill the upgrade?

Jane Foster is the main pay off here. It is a card that has been OK to this point since it allows Thor to be more consistent and works well with Lockjaw to cycle your 0-Cost cards again. Beta Ray Bill adds another piece to support this card, which makes it more consistently a power play on Turn 5. This combines well to create a simple three card package that can be played on curve and opens some room for the rest of the deck to do other things.

First, if you are consistently playing power cards on Turns 3, 4, and 5 (that are boosted by 0-Cost cards), you have the full amount of energy to use on the other turns to support those cards. You can make Thor a 10 power card and Beta Ray Bill a 12 power card without extra energy investment, which allows you to compete for lanes while other decks need to combine more cards to rival your power output. Plus, Jane Foster Mighty Thor is an 8 power card as well.

This can be approached in several different ways, but one direction that works is including Zabu and either a tech card package or other strong 4-drop packages like Darkhawk. The curve of Zabu, Thor, Bill, and Jane Foster adds a lot of power itself, and you can even dodge priority to allow for the Hammers to be played uncontested. Ms. Marvel is the synergy that really shines because it allows you to use the Hammers to fulfill the card’s condition and adds an additional five power to the side lanes.

Whether it is better to support this with more stats or counter cards is still to be determined, but the concept is working well and seems to be the superior way to play the card.

This card also has something for those who like to go big and try to reach the biggest numbers possible. Combinations with Wong and Odin can make Beta Ray Bill reach frankly absurd numbers. The power output makes the deck able to beat most other decks, but these are more draw dependent and can be more fragile than the pure Zabu versions. They are fun, though, and with some games under your belt the Wong direction is stronger than it seems at first.

Lockjaw is still around, too, and it works with Beta Ray Bill as well as Thor. The current issue for Lockjaw decks isn’t the deck itself; they just don’t do enough into some of the rest of the meta without Thanos. The Hammers and Lockjaw decks are likely to remain a part of the game, and they are very playable options.

Beta Ray Bill may have the most playable options of any card this month. The card is simple yet effective, and it can be played as a consistent threat or as part of a crazy combo. It is a real contender for being part of Tier 1 and Tier 2 decks come next week, and the package with Thor and Jane Foster works as well as expected. For now, this is a good sign, and the future looks bright since it has some clear synergies with other cards along with being well placed with Zabu decks (in the current environment).

So, how do you use Beta Ray Bill and Skaar to rack up wins and complete the Bonus Challenge Missions?

First up, Ms. Marvel has a neat synergy with the Hammers. You’re able to develop power later in the game while playing tech cards for any occasion. This deck looks to play Zabu on Turn 2 followed by Thor and/or Beta Ray Bill, and then you want to play Jane Foster Mighty Thor on Turn 5. This sets you up to play two 4-drops and at least one Hammer on Turn 6 while buffing your board. The new Ghost can act as a way to guarantee you don’t have priority to ensure your Shadow King or Shang-Chi hit where you want them to. You’re usually able to win one lane with pure points, and another lane can be won with the counter cards fairly consistently. This is basically a Sera deck without the reliance on Sera.

The Darkhawk deck returns once again. These builds have been outperforming all other Beta Ray Bill builds – and for good reason. The two packages featured here put efficient stats out and do it consistently. Alex Coccia hit it out of the park here with this deck; it can be efficient and play one or two key tech cards when necessary. This list tries Doctor Doom as another way to go wide. This allows the deck to easily compete across the board, and playing Doctor Doom and two hammers on Turn 6 is a dominant finish.

While you can go huge with Wong, just two triggers is usually more than enough. Here is the Wong deck that worked best during the week. You have the White Tiger package alongside the Hammers in case one plan doesn’t work out. Drawing one hammer and playing it on Wong alongside other On Reveal effects is enough to compete with the power of lots of decks. This a fun way to play the card, and, when played with caution, it can easily compete across the board. Seeing Beta Ray Bill outperform Grand Master in this deck was not on my bingo card, but here we are.

Lockjaw is still Lockjaw, and the meta isn’t super kind to it right now with decks like Destroy just going way bigger than your Lockjaw lane. The key here is Caiera and Skaar coming in. This allows you to consistently hit big targets and defend them while holding your Hammers for the later turns with Odin to let you compete for the other lanes. Forge is also neat with Beta Ray Bill, and it can be used to cycle into Lockjaw (which adds just enough to raise the power ceiling of the deck).

For Skaar, you can look literally everywhere and find some version of Thanos Lockjaw with Skaar and Caiera. All these decks work, and the complexity levels are growing over time right now as players adjust the deck to their personal preferences. Even with the Blob nerf, this deck should remain the most effective way of completing the Skaar missions.

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
