Destroy

Archetype pages are updated after each tier list is made. If a page isn’t up-to-date, it means there was nothing worth saying about in the last report, either because there was no data about it, or the archetype did poorly.

How to Play

The archetype is based around the namesake synergy, Destroy, which can develop a ton of points when it gets going. Currently, the key piece for Destroy is Deadpool because it can be abused on repeat in order to grow itself, Venom, and Knull, as well as reduce Death‘s cost.

Destroy has more inherent risk to it because of the need to Snap relatively early in a match, as the only opponent staying in a game where you started growing Deadpool is one with a counter. If you want to be able to raise the stakes and keep an opponent guessing what will happen next, Destroy needs to Snap in the first few turns, which naturally makes it a little riskier to play than other archetypes.

Otherwise, Destroy really came together at the end of 2023, and it has been a top tier archetype ever since. It sets the standard for what a proactive archetype should be able to do. It still has to deal with a few annoying counter cards like Shang-Chi and Shadow King, but it has enough gas in the tank to remain a great archetype (even with those cards around).

Guides

Current Power Level in the Meta

DeathJunk keeps being refined as time passes, and the results keep getting better as well. I expected the deck to struggle with Mobius M. Mobius making a return at the end of last season due to Loki being very popular. Also, there were a lot of talks around Electro Ramp being ideal for Blink, a deck with Sandman included. However, it doesn’t seem to be a problem so far, at least when looking at the 0.5 cube average and 55% win rate.

Typically, decks with such a high cube rate tend to be closer to 60% in the win ratio category, but DeathJunk might still be able to catch a few opponents off guard. The inclusion of Black Bolt, Stature, Silver Samurai and Daken is new in the deck, so this might have helped.

Conquest Performance

Destroy would be a tier one deck if it wasn’t for Ongoing Affliction ruining the party. Indeed, that match-ups is very annoying to go against, as the Jean Grey, Cosmo and Armor trio shuts down most of Destroy’s synergies.
Fortunately, Destroy is equally problematic for Junk, another very popular deck in the metagame, so much so it made Lady Deathstrike a better inclusion than Shang-Chi this week in Conquest.

Compared to the decks in the higher tier then, Destroy feels like it needs a little more luck regarding the match-ups it goes against, as 4-1 doesn’t cut for the Infinity league.

DeathJunk

A more flexible way to build around the Destroy synergy, DeathJunk did really well in Conquest over the limited amount of games recorded. I thought losing the surprise after a few rounds would hurt the deck in Conquest, but it did better than Destroy or any Annihilus deck this week, so could be worth a shot if you want to play around those synergies.

Archetype Evolution Over Time

May 8th Update

  • DeathJunk did great, posting its first tier one performance after being a silent performer in the previous reports. This is the go-to archetype for the destroy synergy right now.

April 28th Update

  • The change in the type of disruption is a big problem for Destroy, a deck completely fine with Annihilus being super popular. Now, the metagame is a bit more difficult to perform against.

April 19th Update

April 13th Update

  • Destroy should be a Tier 1 deck soon, but it needs to fix its terrible match up against Mister Negative to reach that status. Also, the deck feels pretty weak against the current disruptive tools (Spider-Ham, Cable, and Yondu) because losing any one of Knull, Death, or Deadpool can be backbreaking.

April 6th Update

  • Destroy remains a solid Tier 1 deck after the OTA, and the buff to Sabretooth had virtually no impact on the archetype thus far.

March 28th Update

  • Destroy is probably the best proactive deck in Marvel Snap right now. It’s able to beat most other decks in a points shootout. If you manage to nail the right counter card between Shang-Chi, Alioth, and Lady Deathstrike, you’ve got yourself a great deck to climb at all ranks.

March 23rd Update

  • Both Destroy and Phoenix Force had a strong showing after the OTA. Deadpool is back to being a Tier 1 deck for now, and it looked as good as it was before being nerfed twice in February.

March 15th Update

  • Phoenix Force posted a solid performance. As for Deadpool, the deck is still a fair competitor in the current meta, but it doesn’t seem able to reach a dominant status in the current set of things.

March 8th Update

  • Deadpool put on a clinic to start the season, although it wasn’t very popular doing so. Being in the shadows seems to be a great position for Destroy since it doesn’t have to deal with cards targeting its synergies.

March 2nd Update

  • Destroy went from a dominant top three deck to a solid-but-not-special deck in Tier 2.
  • Phoenix Force put up the best Cube Average in the game over the few days following the OTA. There wasn’t a lot of data on it, but 0.6 cubes per game is a lot.

February 23rd Update

  • Deadpool Destroy is a Tier 1 archetype that is able to go toe-to-toe with most decks in the meta.
  • Nimrod Destroyer is a discreet archetype that can shine when the meta focuses around cards like Shang-Chi and Enchantress (since it doesn’t care much about them).
