Patriot

Archetype pages are updated after each tier list is made. If a page isn’t up-to-date, it means there was nothing worth saying about in the last report, either because there was no data about it, or the archetype did poorly.

How to Play

Based around its namesake card, Patriot aims to build a solid amount of points on every lane through global buffs. Most of the time, Patriot will be able to compete on every location and reach 15 to 20 points on each.

While this total might seem lackluster compared to a Discard or Destroy, this allows Patriot to keep its opponent in the dark regarding the exact spread of points to expect. Indeed, a lot of explosive archetypes wait for the last turn to commit their points in order to gain information based on what their opponent does. Against Patriot, you know every lane will be a fight.

While you don’t have much flexibility with your space (you will often use all twelve spaces available with a Patriot deck), a great player will be able to count how many points they should be able to develop ahead of time, and then construct their turns to make it difficult for the opponent to read the situation.

Plus, since you have points on every lane, you will typically hold priority with a Patriot deck, which opens the way for Alioth, Cosmo, or other such cards to potentially ruin your opponent’s game plan. Finally, since Mockingbird joined the game, Patriot was given a great way to keep some points in hand until the very last minute. This provides some more flexibility regarding how you spread your points, and it has been instrumental in Patriot coming back in the meta during the Avengers vs. X-Men season.

Current Power Level in the Meta

Patriot is using Mockingbird to gain explosive potential, and make the deck much harder to predict. Plus, this type of decks tend to do great against Loki, which was very popular at the end of last season, as they can’t do too much with our cards.

The more synergistic nature of the deck naturally limits its ability to compete in every match. Patriot will have to give up a few 1 cube games in order to find those big four or eight cube wins on the back of Valkyrie or a Mockingbird plus Patriot plus Mystique turn.

Cosmo looks like the flexible card in the deck, used to protect our Ongoing cards while annoying the many On reveal synergies roaming the ladder. Yet, you could think of something else if you had a more pressing need.

Archetype Evolution Over Time

May 8th Update

  • Patriot is a high tier 2 deck, solid to climb the ladder early in the season.

April 19th Update

  • Patriot is slowly looking like a solid, flexible deck in the meta that is able to attack all three lanes while packing a disruptive card (if needed). It is hard to know which list is currently the best since you can’t beat certain opponents without Alioth (which makes Iron Patriot a better pick for those), but you want more flexibility against decks such as Move or Discard Dracula (which makes the deck in the Tier List a better pick).

April 6th Update

  • Patriot still isn’t a big player in the Marvel Snap meta, but it manages to stay relevant from one week to another (which is already more than it did for the first two months of the year). It is far from being the best deck, but it can definitely reach the Infinite rank.

March 28th Update

  • Patriot is a solid Tier 2 archetype when you have the right deck, and a Tier 3 contender otherwise. Right now, the points potential still isn’t enough compared to Discard and Destroy, but, with some disruption added to the mix, you have a shot at beating anyone.
