Archetype pages are updated after each Tier List is made. If a page isn’t up-to-date, it means there was nothing worth mentioning in the last report, either because there was no data about the archetype or it did poorly.
Ranked Performance
I was curious to see if Victoria Hand could synergize with Swarm to help Discard, and she did. The deck went back to its old trick of using Helicarrier and Corvus Glaive to bring some unpredictable patterns to an otherwise rigid deck. The Cube Average still hasn’t risen much, but the 58.5% Win Rate put Discard in the category of decent decks after this first week of the Dark Avengers season.
Conquest Performance
While the deck is experimenting with new things using Victoria Hand in Ranked, Discard Dracula kept its solid list from last season in Conquest and posted a 63% Win Rate with it.
At the moment, Discard is in a good place. The early stages of a new season typically features more points oriented decks. However, the deck started to suffer from its rigidity towards the end of the last season, so this list might have already reached its limits.
How to Play
The Discard archetype encompasses plenty of different decks. There’s Discard Dracula, the classic, proactive build that tries to grow Apocalypse to feed Dracula on game’s end. The deck has plenty of cards to contest the second lane, especially because cards inside this synergy tend to have solid power for their cost.
The emphasis for this deck is making sure its synergies develop according to plan, and most of its wins will rely on those synergies developing points on Dracula and Morbius. The win is often just a product of developing too many points for the opponent to be able to match them. As such, your focus when playing this deck is sometimes split between producing those points and making sure your opponent cannot stop you in your tracks.
Hela is the combo oriented build that is aimed at discarding high power cards to resurrect them later on with the Goddess of Death herself. When playing this deck, you want to project yourself into the future of a match and find the safest path to a huge Turn 6. Hela decks are typically either loved or hated by the community. They’ve been judged too simple to pilot for the results that they can achieve. It is true that once a good Hela deck emerges, it is quick to spread among players due to its ease; however, playing a Hela deck at a high level isn’t simple, as the slightest problem can completely derail your deck.
There are also a few hybrid Discard decks, such as those built around Black Knight or the Black Bolt+Stature duo. Usually, these synergies share the spotlight with another way to create points and serve to cover either the early game or the late game for the deck. Playing Black Knight, discarding a big card, and playing the Ebony Blade will fill up the first four turns. Conversely, Black Bolt is a Turn 5 play that allows you to play Stature alongside other cards on Turn 6.
Archetype Evolution Over Time
- Discard tested Victoria Hand with Helicarrier at the start of the new season, and it seemed to do pretty well. The deck has always needed to find some unpredictability, so this is a welcome twist.
This section was reset at the start of 2025 with the Dark Avengers season.
