Infinite Decks of the Week – March 5, 2023: Last Chance Before Days of Future Past Season!
Every week, I am torn between sharing the latest developments in the Thanos Lockjaw and Shuri Zero deck archetypes, as both decks continue to demolish any form of competition thrown their way. In the upcoming Days of Future Past Season next Monday, we can look forward to some shakeup with some improvements to the ranked ladder as well as the new Season Pass card, Nimrod.
For this last week of Into the Quantum Realm Season though, Kang made a lot of noise, but mostly amongst players who were already in the Infinite rank. If you are curious about the card, Kang made a name for himself in Good Cards archetype, where information is very valuable. The card was also slotted in some of the strongest decks overall, as it is just looking like a fine card to play on turn six to know what the opponent has in store before making a decision. Mostly, the card was praised for its ability to limit cube losses, and getting away with snapping while you shouldn’t have done so. We will of course, have more to share about the card in this series next season, and see if the card finds a spot in some of the fastest deck lists to grind back to the Infinite rank.
Until then, let’s focus on the final week of the ranked season, where I looked for deck lists that were a little different, so to unlock that unpredictability trait and get away with more snaps. As we loom towards the end of the season, we are enticed to take more risks in order to rack up cubes before it is too late. As a result, we have to find a way to raise the stakes without being punished too often for it. I know what you are thinking, “pick Shuri Zero or Lockjaw Thanos, and where is the risk in that?”, well, you are not necessarily wrong, but we’ll talk about different decks this week, with a similar upside.
What do we have on the menu for this week then? Silver Surfer making a comeback after a very discreet month of February. A mix of the control and the good cards shell produces a weird looking, but apparently effective deck. And because he didn’t get its deserved glory last week, an Electro Sandman with a hot take on how to build the archetype.
If you are still struggling to make it to Infinite, know that you have our full support, and may you find some inspirations to finish the climb in this article!

Silver Surfer isn’t completely gone
Silver Surfer clearly lost much more than Zabu when both cards were nerfed, and February was the first month since the card joined the game we haven’t seen Silver Surfer in a dominant position. For most of the community, the card was done, at least until it would drop to Series 3 and be free to collect once again, maybe pushing more people to experiment further. Some players don’t seem to agree, like JHugs, who took the strongest win condition in the game back in December for a spin, and climbed to Infinite with it.
In this deck, we can see it isn’t a full Silver Surfer deck, as half the deck aren’t 3-cost cards, instead adding some discount synergy through Zabu and Sera, and Goose to finish the deck. I would suspect the goal here is to play a miracle-like playstyle, where most people would believe they are going against Sera Control, which isn’t completely false given the deck runs Killmonger and Shang-Chi in it.
Because of this little misdirection, I would expect some opponents to think they have a clear read on what might come over the last turn of the match, only to be caught wondering where all the points come from. When Silver Surfer, Brood, and Wong come crashing onto the board to buff cards we thought were supposed to just be disruptive, they are in for a surprise!
There are some 3-cost cards I don’t necessarily agree with, such as Wolfsbane, which seems to only synergize with Brood. However, I definitely like the concept here, and think it represents really well what this Infinite Decks of the Week series represents.
Are reactive cards just good cards?
Shang-Chi and Wave could be considered disruptive cards, even if in reality, these two have been considered overall solid cards for a while now. Yet, in this deck, Enchantress is joining them, alongside Zabu, completing the core of the Sera Control deck. However, the other cards, Sunspot, Aero, She-Hulk or Doctor Doom aren’t part of that archetype at all, but fit the Good Cards theme.
In this mix of both archetypes, it is difficult to see where we are trying to go. It seems easy to visualize how the last turn of the match could be very explosive for this deck, which is logical considering there are most of the best game ending cards in the game. But what are we doing up until this point?
For example, what am I playing on turn three if I’m supposed to hold Wave for turn five? What are my options on turn four outside of Moon Girl? There are many questions I had looking at this deck from a practical standpoint, even if Sunspot seems to be able to get most decks out of a lot of situations where they would have to pass on using their energy. I am not saying the deck is bad, and I do like the idea of merging two of the strongest Pool 3 decks in the game currently. However, part of what makes the climb to Infinite easy is the ability to play a deck we fully understand and can play at a high level for long periods of time.
I have to admit, I have a bit of trouble understand how to navigate the mid-game with this one, but it shouldn’t take anything away from Xtreme. On the contrary even, they managed to reach the highest rank in the game with their own take, so congratulations!
Sandman finally makes it!
I’ll admit, this one is mostly for my own pleasure, but not finding any Sandman last week was a bummer after its buff. This week, the card seemed to do better, and finally help the archetype most people imagined it would fit in, Electro Ramp, perform, as testified by Trompa and their Infinite climb.
During the first week of play, a list with Black Panther and Arnim Zola was popularized, and seemed to do well, as Arnim Zola was another way to play on multiple lanes while being limited to one card a turn. In Trompa’s opinion, Captain Marvel and Aero are much better suited for the deck.
Arguably, Captain Marvel fills a similar role to Arnim Zola, the card being able to move to make sure its points will matter. I don’t think Aero needs much introduction at this point, and it is difficult to fault anyone for playing it in any deck, really. In the Electro Ramp deck, she is an insurance policy when ahead, and combined with Sandman, makes sure only very few cards in the game will contribute to another lane than the one you have decided to bring them to.
Overall, it seems like Electro Ramp has nice core cards that most people agree on, and three flexible slots, which in this deck are Lizard, Aero and Captain Marvel.
Closing Words
The last week of a season is always a bit special, as the players looking to hit Infinite before the reset tend to resort to playing the best decks, convinced they will have an easier time doing so. While it is hard to fault them to think this, I think it makes the climb of those who kept believing in their deck even more special.
In a few days, the new season will start, and Nimrod, the new Battle Pass card, should bring the destroy archetype, relatively discreet lately, back to a popular status. Alongside Kang released this week, I am eager to follow these two cards performances to see how the climb back to the infinite rank might reveal some new concepts.
Until then, I wish the best of luck, and courage, to those still trying to hit their goal this season. Everyone at Marvel Snap Zone believes you can do it, and feel free to hit us on Discord or Twitter with any question, if that may help your climb.
