Sleeper Decks of the Week – Does Whatever a Spider-Pig Does!

There's a lot to like in this week's Sleeper Decks of the Week from Spider-Ham to newly buffed Nick Fury and (relatively) newly nerfed Galactus! Come see what wild Sleeper Decks could take you to the top of the Snap mountain!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper decks this week. In addition to the podcast (this week’s episode features community and personal favorites Molt, Bootman, and Bradcifer!), I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (ahem Twitter and the various sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices. Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out! This week we’re also trying out Videos from some of our favorite creators playing the decks – check those out, too, and let us know what you think!

One more thing before we get started. A week before every season, I do the biggest Marvel Snap Season Pass giveaway in the game on my Twitter. It’ll be announced there on 6/26, and the giveaway consists of five Phoenix Force Season Passes and a grand prize who gets the Season Passes AND every Token Tuesday for the month of July. Remember to check my Twitter this Monday for how to enter!

Deck Thoughts: Okay, first, I’m not being hyperbolic – I think this is the best build of the best deck. Everyone who has tried this and has had any success with Lockjaw ever is raving, winning games and Infinity Tickets. The High Evolutionary package in Lockjaw has really taken off, but it lacks interaction, especially against Bounce decks since Kitty Pryde, Shang-Chi, and Iron Man can match your size.

Well, Spider-Ham on Iron Man or Shang-Chi, or, honestly, even a card like Bishop can completely ruin their gameplan. Spider-Ham can be played on turn 2 alone, on turn 4 with a Lockjaw, or turn 5 with a Dracula or Jubilee. If it’s thrown into Lockjaw, you get the added bonus of potentially two hams. Taking out a competing deck’s top end is a fantastic way to win games.

I had removed Doctor Doom even before the nerf – Doom and Odin are a great combo, but when they get pigged, they’re extremely underpowered. Replacing them are The Infinaut and Giganto – two cards that have so far allowed this deck to go over the top of even the returned Shuri decks. Many have been trying this deck and replacing Dracula – with The Infinaut and Giganto that’s a bad idea. The deck is built around Dracula’s downside being a 6-9 America Chavez.

Indeed, the only card that can feel awkward is Jubilee. She’s great as Lockjaw insurance, but she may be one cheaper card too many and can be hard to find time to play if you see your other pieces. Since you still don’t want to leave her in hand, she may be better off as Magneto.

This version of the deck is built for and around the utility of Spider-Ham, and I don’t suggest you try it without him. At that point, classic Evolved Jane-Jaw is probably better.

Check out our friend SuperTechGod rolling to Infinity Tickets with the deck:

Deck Thoughts: Our friend Fazzer sent me this deck Thursday night after OTA and quick testing showed that this would take the meta by storm. The Darkhawk package speaks for itself here – its still one of the most consistent and powerful packages in the game, even as new cards rise around it, but here we add unpredictability and top end to the package.

Nick Fury becoming a 4-5 allows him to synergize amazingly with this deck. Zabu makes him cheaper, while the Quinjet makes the cards he generates cheaper, allowing you to play two 6-cost cards in the game. Playing him on turn 3 doesn’t get you a 6-drop on turn 4, but it does allow you to plan out the rest of your game! Even if the cards end up useless, Devil Dinosaur turns them into two power each.

Mystique is a card I thought I’d hate here, as copying a huge Dinosaur or Darkhawk can get clunky, but it’s also game-winning when it works. In addition, with a silly amount of fours in the deck, Going Zabu into Mystique gives you the old play pattern of double fours on turn 4 and potentially 3 on turn 6. That’s amazingly powerful and must be tried to be believed.

Finally, Iron Lad is just a consistency tool while Jeff the Baby Land Shark is just cheap reach. Neither is super important to the deck. Iron Lad could easily be America Chavez for consistency, Aero because of the sweet new bundle, or, my choice, Jubilee to keep the four-cost synergy going with a similar effect. Jeff is easily Luke Cage though I prefer Spider-Ham. In fact, I may just prefer the Ham anyway.

Deck Thoughts: Kitty Pryde is crazily powerful, and decks featuring that card have a top end that is extremely versatile, as we’ll see throughout the rest of this article. This version of the deck adds an The Infinaut package of Ghost Rider and Lady Sif along with Devil Dinosaur.

This allows the deck to take advantage of multiple play lines that overlap. The Collector gets large thanks to Maria Hill, Kitty Pryde, and Agent Coulson, while all of those cards help the Devil Dinosaur stay large. The Infinaut package lets you go over the top of most decks, and with Spider-Ham in so many decks, The Infinaut can often just be played on turn 6.

Neither Nebula nor Spider-Ham is entirely necessary for this build, although both add a lot of power. They could be a classic Sunspot and Iceman package, though the deck clearly takes a hit in power at that point.

Our friend Savage Yeti decided to add Nick Fury to this deck once it was made. In addition to my explanation of the deck in the link above, check out his gameplay!

Deck Thoughts: Of my three day-one decks, this has proven to be my favorite. I always go in thinking Magik and Shuri will be clunky, but it’s really just powerful. This deck uses the Kitty Pryde early game to lead into a massive variety of play lines.

With all these ways to win, this deck has proven extremely hard to plan against, as opponents just have no idea what your plan is in a given game and thus cannot plan around you.

The only higher-series card here is Spider-Ham, and he could reasonably be replaced with any variety of one-cost cards. I like starting here with Elektra, given the current meta. We’ll come back to that card in two more decks.

Deck Thoughts: What am I is a player who competes in several Marvel Snap Tournaments. Here is a deck they played months ago before Kitty Pryde was released to great success, updated with current cards. This is reasonably similar to the last deck but looks to leverage Moon Girl more for explosive final turns using Hit Monkey, Kitty Pryde and She-Hulk. The Hood adds an extra cheap 6-power card while Carnage takes care of that Hood -3 and any other junk that accumulates, including Mysterio clones.

There are just so many cards this deck wants that it can’t fit. The obvious are Angela and Bishop, but Quinjet making a second Hit Monkey cheaper is just so good. If you lack Hit Monkey, go with Angela here. Spider-Ham would be Iceman.

Deck Thoughts: The deck so beautiful it spawned a bromance.

Instead of going over the top with cards like Bast and Iron Man, W has decided to instead, ruin his opponent’s lives. Valkyrie makes it easy to go over the top of even opponent The Infinauts, while Shang-Chi takes care of cards like evolved Hulk or Devil Dinosaur. The Kitty Pryde bounce mirror is always sweaty, but Elektra does a stellar job of winning that, as you just need one good hit to end the opponent’s Kitty threat. Spider-Ham handles Iron Man or other nonsense, so this deck is good to go!

Does this deck need Spider-Ham? Not entirely, but the control takes a major hit. Given the other control in the deck, Falcon is an option, as is one of my favorite cards: Bast.

Deck Thoughts: This has been my most successful deck this week by far! It’s not in the Spider-Ham section, though, of course, I have a Spider-Ham version. This deck is straightforward and demands answers. It goes over the top of Shuri and Red Skull or Lockjaw decks with Kitty Pryde, Bishop, and Angela (especially after a Bast for all three!), but especially when combined with Iron Man, who with 3-power is absolutely one of the strongest cards in the game. Shang-Chi gives another option to steal a game, and I maintain a near 80% win rate with this deck.

If you want to add Spider-Ham the cut is either Jeff the Baby Land Shark, who is here for a bit of reach and because he can move onto Angela then off, or Iceman, who is phenomenal, but fills a similar role to the pig.

Our friend Nerfherder kicked all kinds of butt with this deck:

Deck Thoughts: Patriot is one of the more straightforward archetypes in the game, but simultaneously, it’s one of the most powerful. Most of this deck is obvious – play Patriot and Mystique then Ultron to put 20 power at each location. The devil, here, is in the details.

Given Ultron‘s ability, Dazzler is often an 8-power card, putting it along the top end of the curve, especially in games you’re forced to use Blue Marvel instead of Ultron. Shang-Chi takes care of what happens when your opponent gets too big, and Invisible Woman stops Enchantress and Rogue cold while making your snaps extremely scary. Straightforward? Yes. Still, harder to play than it looks, but the risk is worth the reward.

Deck Thoughts: This is the exact deck Keen Koala hit Infinite with this month, though he has made two small changes (check the pinned comment of the video above). He hits Infinite with Quake every season, and this one is particularly cool. It’s the standard lane control package that makes Quake sing – how often, really, do you assume your opponent has Quake – but it’s the control pieces of Kraven, Shang-Chi, and Luke Cage that turn what the opponent is trying to accomplish against them.

No words can truly do the power of Quake justice, so check out this awesome video by our friend Combat:

Deck Thoughts: This has, from what I’ve seen, been the most effective Galactus since nerf, winning Infinity Tickets as most people have no way around this deck. Its goal is to fill an opponent’s lane with junk and use its tools of Iron Fist, Ghost-Spider, and Carnage in various combinations to keep your lane empty for an easy Galactus win. Of course, when opponents see a junk deck, they don’t at all expect Galactus, so this deck is a beauty at picking up huge wins.

It even often wins without Galactus, as that junk lane is an easy win and Spider-Woman is such a strong top-end. It’s a good thing it has that backup plan though since Spider-Ham makes the Galactus dangerous. With no ramp, Galactus is only a turn 6 play, so other classic Galactus cards like Death or Knull make no sense; however, if you’re looking for a change, both Shuri and the newly-buffed Nimrod offer some value.

FaThorNewman, an absolutely stellar human being, went undefeated with the deck:
