Maverick is the third Series 5 cards joining Marvel Snap for the December 2025 Season, Weapon X. It is a 3-Cost, 3-Power card that reads: Activate: Give the next card you play Power equal to this card’s Power.

Today, let’s explore the new card strengths and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.
Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop as the latest Seasonal Spotlight card. They will be also be included in the Seasonal Series 5 Snap Pack for 5,000 Collector’s Tokens during their season and the following one.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Buff cards in Marvel Snap are both great and boring.
Great because we know the card will most likely be playable. Indeed, there are so many strategies built around buffing cards. Silver Surfer, Nimrod, Black Panther, Scarlet Spider, Man-Spider…
Plus, Maverick isn’t just a card able to buff another one, it also is a great recipient for buffs, as it will transfer them to another card later on.
Here are two lists, one for the targets, the other for buff cards, that should pair perfectly with Maverick:

A third list with activate cards also based on their power, to figure if we have enough for a deck with Jocasta:

In a way, we could look at Maverick as a Lasher, except we get to pass that power to one of our cards rather than get it off an opposing card. That is much stronger since we can synergize with our deck rather than our opponent’s.
Last, Maverick starts as a [3/3], effectively making it a [3/6] once we activate it. The average power in Marvel Snap for a 3-cost is 5 plus an ability, meaning Maverick is already on par with its peers even before getting buffed.
What we just talked about could also go in the boring section. Of course Maverick is going to see play. It is a 3-cost buff card, it will end up in a Silver Surfer deck at the very least, and probably a few others as well.
However, I believe this buff will be a little more interesting than America Chavez, Gwenpool, and those other cards, thanks to activate keyword.
To have that keyword instead of On Reveal brings a lot more interaction with our opponent, both for them to remove Maverick, and for us to optimize its impact on the game.

Gwenpool doesn’t interact with our opponent, she only signals we are about to drop a big power card on them. Maverick sends a similar signal, but we get to pick the target and the timing.
If we use it too early, we tell our opponent about our plan, and politely ask them if they want to retreat or think they can beat us. If we activate too late, we risk losing Maverick as our opponent could destroy it, or remove its ability.
This interaction makes Maverick much more interesting to play compared to other buff cards, as there is real friction when playing the card.
The Verdict: Should You Get Maverick?
America Chavez has proved to be a great 1-cost since her latest buff, while Forge always finds its way into a deck as well.
Maverick is a [3/6] with half that power directed at whichever card you want, while each buff to Maverick can be considered doubled.
This card will be good, one way or another.
Pre-Release Score:
Maverick Decks
There are many possibilities with Maverick, even if they all gravitate towards the same idea: Buff your cards.
In all those decks, Maverick will serve as a targeted buff, or a bridge to redirect your buffs to your important cards. I believe this is the main upside with the new 3-cost: It should make our buffs reach their intended target more reliably.
