Dazzler

Dazzler Theorycraft, Strategy, and Decklists

Looking to prepare for the release of Dazzler on January 24 and find out if the card is good? We delve into the strategies and potential of the new Series 5 card Dazzler and theorycraft what decks it can fit in to!

Dazzler will be hitting Marvel Snap on January 24, 2023. This card will be entering Series 5 and can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens or opened via the Collection Level Track at a 0.25% drop rate in Collector’s Caches and Reserves.

Dazzler is a 4 energy, 4 power card which has the ability – Ongoing: If you have 4 cards at each location, +6 Power.

Strategy and Potential

Dazzler is potentially a 4 energy, 10 power card. That ceiling deserves attention and attempts to abuse the card as much as possible.

Filling every location is difficult, and if we examine the effect closer, you have to have 4 cards at every location. The Space Throne is game over for example. Locations like Altar of Death, Death's Domain and Sanctum Sanctorum limit how we build the deck also or we have to accept these locations, meaning we lose. We can compare this problem to Move decks which can be incredibly frustrating to play due to the random nature of locations.

Some cards help us to fulfil the conditions with some of the difficult locations. Ultron for example will throw 4 cards into locations we cannot play into. To a lesser extent cards such as Squirrel Girl, Mysterio, Mister Sinister and Brood help us fill spots with less cards.

The other limiting factor is energy cost of cards stopping us filling all the spots on the board. Cards like Sera and Zabu help us lower these costs, playing more cards and therefore filling more spots on the board. These two cards in particular hold a lot of promise alongside Dazzler and are the most promising directions to consider for Dazzler.

The problem will be can we make use of the effect consistently or will other decks which are looking to limit gameplans just be too strong when combined with the location limitations. Strong Guy has proven to still only be an okay card even when combined with Zabu with an arguably easier condition to meet than Dazzler. This is not a good sign for the potential success of Dazzler.

Potential Score

Rating: 6 out of 10.

Sera deck with Brood and Mister Sinister could potentially use Dazzler as a finish. We need to ensure we are playing on curve where we can so we are not over relying on the final turn and have to give up some of the tech cards to be consistent.

This one relies a little bit on Killmonger not existing, or using your Ultron final turn to finish the game.

This is a hybrid and does not rely on Patriot for the buff. Instead we are using Ultron to ensure we fill the locations. This may be the better way to go than slotting Dazzler into a Patriot deck as we can focus the rest of the deck on other synergistic card such as Ant Man and Mojo instead of the No Ability package.

Then there is the full collection Zoo. Again utilizing Ultron but this time it is more of a backup plan in case we don’t fill the locations using the rest of our cards. Shanna buts 4 cards down and should hopefully be enough on her own to not require Squirrel Girl, allowing us to play the good 1 drops.

Then there is the full collection approach, leaning heavily into Zabu on 3 and Sera on 5 to help reduce the 4-Cost cards. We can use Jubilee and Absorbing Man to bring more of your deck onto the board to fill the locations and Moon Girl to copy reduced 4-Cost cards to keep adding cards to the board. Additionally these cards all synergise with Darkhawk and other plans.

(Personal note: I also love the idea of Jubilee and Dazzler forming the cult following hipster super X-Girl club.)

Who is Dazzler?

Alison Blaire (Dazzler) was born to a successful family and during her childhood was forced down a path of law school. However her passion was always singing and she pursued this as much as she could alongside her parents pressure. Alison’s mutant abilities first appeared while performing at a junior high school dance, blinding all in attendance save herself. She can convert sound into various types of light and project energy and light.

She hid her powers from everyone but eventually decided she was going to pursue a career in singing using her mutant powers and abandoned her families academic dreams for her. Now known as The Dazzler, she used her mutant powers to turn sound into dazzling light shows whilst she performed. She hid this as simply technological tricks, but whilst this fooled the Muggles it did not fool the X-Men.

Both the Hellfire Club and the X-Men attempted to recruit Dazzler, but she declined so she could continue performing. Unfortunately she began to attract the wrong types of attention (aka supervillians!) and was forced into heroic acts and began to become known on both the club singing and the superhero circuit. Through her varied career she has been affiliated with many groups including the X-Men and S.H.I.E.L.D.

  1. Yep, as a mid-Pool 3 player, I definitely have a “who gives two hoots?” attitude about new cards. Kind of focusing on the potentially attainable ones right now.
