What Is Grand Arena: Showdown?
Grand Arena: Showdown is exactly what the name promises: the Champion-driven Grand Arena format crossed with Sanctum Showdown’s location scoring. If you’ve played either mode on its own, this event brings them together in one limited-time experience.
From Grand Arena
You pick a Champion, and that choice defines your deck. Each of the eight featured Champions anchors their own Showdown deck, so your pick shapes everything from your curve to your win condition.
From Sanctum Showdown
Forget straight win-or-lose scoring. Every match uses Sanctum Location Scoring: you win points from each location, and Snapping increases the points on the focused location. The first player to 16 points takes the match.
How Do You Play?
- Pick your Champion. Eight Champions are featured this run, each with their own prebuilt Showdown deck ready to play, or you can build your own.
- Start fast. Every match starts at 2 Energy instead of 1.
- Score everywhere. You win points from each location, so every lane matters on every turn.
- Start Snapping on turn 3. Snapping on turn 3 increases the points on the focused location. Time it well and you can swing the match.
- Race to 16. The first player to reach 16 points wins the match.

Grand Arena: Showdown – Gameplay
A lot of bans will impact the way we can play this mode. Here is the full list of cards and locations we won’t be allowed to use.
Banned Cards

Banned Locations
Pre-Built Decks
Eight Champions are stepping into this Showdown, joined by their champion skill added on top of our 12 cards :
- Doctor Doom with Master Plan
- Iron Man with Stark Technology
- Thanos with Inevitable
- Thor with Thundering Hammer
Custom Decks
Except for Ghost-Spider, who got a deck built around her synergy, the other prebuilt decks are embarrassing to be honest. I have nothing against Sunspot or the Ongoing synergy, especially with Enchantress banned, but I’m sure there is a bit more we can do in terms of deck building for this event.
For now, we’ll focus on pushing each Champion’s synergy as far as possible to make those decks fun and able to develop a good amount of points.
If you a specific champion starts to take over, there are enough disruptive cards not banned to edge against a specific deck.
I’ll probably start with Captain America. I’m curious to see if summoning Wong or the new Scorpion Brand New Day with Shield Throw can make a strong afflict deck.
Otherwise, if the rules are the same as Grand arena, and we start with both our Champion and its skill in hand, Doctor Doom should be very difficult to contain.
