Caliban Horseman of Pestilence Marvel Snap Base Card

Best Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence Decks and Strategy Guide

Is the new card worth buying or trying your luck in Snap Packs? Read our guide and find some decks to try out on day 1 in here!

Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence is the third Series 5 card joining Marvel Snap for the March 2026 Season, , X-Men: Origins of Apocalypse. It is a 3-Cost, 4-Power card that reads: Objective: Have 7 different Powers among your other cards in play +6 Power.

Today, let’s explore the new card strengths and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.

Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop as the latest Seasonal Spotlight card. They will be also be included in the Seasonal Series 5 Snap Pack for 5,000 Collector’s Tokens during their season and the following one.

Synergies

The new card is reminiscent of Omega Sentinel, except it costs 1 less energy and we can’t just click it to get the reward. Already, this is a big difference, as the Objective keyword still lacks any sort of synergy in Marvel Snap. Omega Sentinel could be repeated through Jocasta, which allowed some form of scaling. Here, Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence‘s main upside is the fact it will go off even if played on the last turn of the match, something Activate cards can’t do.

Outside this comparison, Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence is a [3/11] when the objective is completed, which is a great power-to-cost ratio. However, there are a few obstacles to overcome in order to really get that [3/11]:

  • En Sabah Nur could switch the card we afflicted, as it is likely it will now be the lowest power. Hopefully, the opponent’s highest cost card is on our opponent’s back row.
  • Shadow King and Luke Cage aren’t very popular, but also good enough to make a comeback if they would represent a counter to a popular ability.
  • For most decks, Three 4-cost or higher cards will force them to be extremely rigid in the way they play, as this commands at least 12 of our last 15 energies.

Because of these restrictions, on top of the affliction synergy not being particularly good, Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence appears to represent a lot of work, for a reward other cards are able to provide.

As a result, I expect the card to be included in already built decks, sporting enough high cost cards, rather than open any deck building avenue. For synergies, I looked at cards able to represent multiple 4+ cost cards on their own:

The On Reveal synergy immediately jumps to mind, especially with Odin able to enable those cards a second time. However, nothing beats Doctor Doom 2099 when it comes to summoning 4-cost cards. If Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence makes it alongside that card, it will earn its way onto the current Marvel Snap metagame for sure.

The Verdict: Should You Get Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence?

Until the Objective keyword gets more cards to synergize with, I will always be a little cautious on their potential. [3/11] is enough to see play, but afflicting opposing cards means a significant portion of that power can be taken away, while I’m not even certain I’ll be able to complete the objective.

I expect Caliban, Horseman of Pestilence to be enough to see play, but overall barely make an impact on the metagame.

Pre-Release Score:

Rating: 3 out of 10.
