Galacta is the next Season Pass card joining Marvel Snap to kick off the December 2024 season, Marvel Rivals. It is a 4-Cost, 6 Power card that reads: Each turn, the first card you play at another location reveals with +3 Power. Today, we will take a deeper look at the new card and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.

Strengths and Weaknesses

If you play Galacta on Turn 4, you should be able to make it a [4/12], and that is already enough for the card to sit at the big kids table with Gwenpool in terms of raw power amongst 4-Costs. If you also factor in some help from Zabu and Psylocke for an earlier Galacta, you’re now looking at a [4/15] that requires little to no set up!

Alright, so getting Galacta in play is not a problem, and the card should be worth its cost when she hits the board on Turn 3 or 4. Now what crazy strong synergies can we build around it?

How could I start this tour of cards to pair with Galacta without mentioning the ones that multiply the extra power you grant them? Well, I can’t. Scarlet Spider appeals to me the most because it is also a 4-Cost card, which means it can also get reduced with Zabu. I started exploring an Iron Lad+Scarlet Spider kind of deck, and both Iron Man and Brood joining them made sense pretty quickly.

I didn’t go as far as including Beta Ray Bill in the mix, but King Eitri could maybe can join a 4-Cost cards package that is designed to grow in power. Human Torch and Deadpool could also be candidates here, but Galacta might be too expensive for them to work.

Certain cards have their power carefully picked because they would be way too strong otherwise. Of course, Galactus at nine power is the first one that comes to mind (I mean, Galacta, Galactus… they probably know each other). Gladiator at 11 power only loses to Magneto in the current meta, and Vision becomes an 11 power card that can move anywhere. Vision can also just represent Move cards as a whole because Captain Marvel, Jeff, and Nocturne are probably very strong with three more power as well.

Professor X at five power suddenly becomes much more likely to win its location, and the same is true for Adam Warlock at eight power.

Moving on to the weaknesses… there aren’t many to talk about. Indeed, Galacta isn’t an On Reveal or Ongoing card, so you can’t turn it off with Cosmo or Rogue. This leaves you with Red Guardian as the only card to disable the 4-Cost, or Shadow King to remove the extra power she grants your other cards. The buffed cards could also be destroyed by Shang-Chi if they reach ten power, but I guess decks will have some sort of protection against that.

If I was to dig deep to find a real weakness for the card, I’d say she tips the opponent onto the fact that you are likely to play on one of the two locations Galacta isn’t at. If they have priority, this could make their disruptive cards like Juggernaut more effective.

The Verdict

Galacta is a very straight-forward card that looks great at first glance. Sure, synergistic decks looking to pull off specific patterns might not enjoy the new Season Pass card, but the strong standalone based decks will love it.

I expect to see Galacta make it into the Good Cards and Arishem decks at the very least, which is more than enough to make the card a potential high impact addition to Marvel Snap in December.

Starter Card

At first glance, Galacta seems to be at her best in a deck that is looking to develop power, especially one that is able to get the new Season Pass card out on Turn 3. Arishem is an obvious candidate for the role, but most Wiccan decks should be able to apply since Psylocke can easily join the party.

In these synergies, the goal is mostly to leverage Galacta because it is a high power 4-Cost that spreads points across the board. This will be good for grabbing priority to set up an Alioth, and it also allows you to not care about your opponent’s Cosmo or Alioth.

Galacta can also be played to boost specific cards and enable power-based combos. Nimrod and Black Panther look like the most appealing options to build around, especially since Iron Man can already be used with Agent Venom.

Galacta serves as a flexible support card to boost your key cards in these concepts. In the past, you would use Shuri in these decks, but that often gave too much information to your opponent (as well as created a problem for Arnim Zola). Galacta solves both of these issues at the cost of a little less power to Nimrod and Black Panther That is easily worth the trade off in my opinion.

Closing Thoughts

Galacta was harder to build around than Agent Venom and Surtur. Indeed, most of the best targets for Galacta are far from competitive options at the moment, so the new Season Pass card needs to be incredible to make them work.

Fortunately, the card likely has enough power to be a solid standalone inclusion in decks that are able to get it out on Turn 3, be it with Arishem, Zabu, or Psylocke. I expect this second role to be how Galacta shines at first, and maybe that will give the community enough time to work on a cool deck with Nimrod, Black Panther, or even Galactus.

I hope this review of the new card was helpful. Feel free to share your opinions and excitement about the card in the comments. You can find everyone on the Marvel Snap Zone team in our community discord to have a chat or ask any questions.
