Snap Judgments Deck of the Day: Esme Day 1!

Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. Check out the video for a verbal explanation of this and three other new decks.

NOTE: There are three other Esme Cuckoo decks in the video, and at daily reset, a Surge video will go up on the same YouTube Channel that will have four decks for her.

Esme Cuckoo is the new Marvel Snap Season Pass card, and she’s very likely to be excellent. Even if she’s bad, though, she’s very worth buying, as you’re saving 5-6000 Tokens in Snap Pack value and keeping that section clearer for cards you definitely want. If she is bad, though, Captain Carter showed that Second Dinner has no problem giving her a huge buff to make her more worth it – I’d expect a 2-3 if necessary – so this one is all but certain to find a home.

I do not expect to see this be buffed at all. It feels incredible in several different ways. First, it’s the ultimate consistency piece. There are a lot of decks in Marvel Snap that badly want to see a particular card in order to succeed. Whether Mister Negative, Wiccan, or Victoria Hand, Esme is unique in giving an extra shot at that card, which can be further then discounted by Quinjet.

She has another stellar use, too, though – there are power cards that are limited in when and how they are played by Cost and Power. Iron Man, Sera, Knull, Gorr, and many other cards are … silly at base 3-Cost 4-Power. You can even target what Esme hits to an extent, or at least know what it’s more likely to hit, since it gets a card still in deck when played.

And finally, we’d be remiss to not mention Silver Surfer. A 3 that generates a 3 is always of use, but Surfer getting a 3-4 Surfer, Brood, Sera, or Captain Carter. Yes, please!

Esme is going to be a great card!

Surge on turn 2 seems like a crazy card, but Phastos taught us that this type of ability can be overrated. A chain of Surge seems incredibly powerful, and when that happens, she’ll be insane, but there are few decks that truly play anything every turn without concern.

There are a few natural homes, still though. Silver Surfer, outside of the Surfer himself, may be one, and Small Good Cards Havok may like it, though it has a potential to mess up Thena for one extra power, but I think the easiest home will be Thanos. Free stones and cheap tech cards seems right up that deck’s alley.

There are a few other homes, but I think the best of them might be this deck, that was the best in Marvel Snap for September of 2024.

Starter Card

When Anti-Venom gave 4 Power, this was the best deck in the game, but when he was changed, the deck fell apart. Well, Surge and Esme may give this new life.

The basic strategy of the deck remains the same – to use cards like Thena to build early power. That power is then to be amplified late game in unpredictable ways thanks to Iron Man, Mystique, and Klaw. Surge should allow for earlier ramp into these key cards, and outside of Mystique and Juggernaut, anything can keep the Surge chain going. A four cost Iron Man or Klaw, in particular, seems crazy for Surge and this deck’s late-game potential.

But if a 4-Cost version of these sounds good, how does a 3-4 version from Esme work? That is absolutely game-winning, a better Mystique that can still be played with Mystique. Add in the native power of the list, and this seems incredibly hard to beat.
