Sleeper Decks of the Week – The New MMM – Lockdown, New Loki, and More!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper Decks this week. In addition to the podcast (this week’s episode is our one-year anniversary episode going over the Top 10 Decks in Snap with Den and Savage Yeti!), I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (ahem Twitter and the various Marvel Snap sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices.

Remember: Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out!

Lockdown Is King

Ms. Marvel seems to have given birth to a new renaissance in lockdown decks, even those she doesn’t appear in!

Deck Thoughts:

Our own genius deck builder Safetyblade has one of the best and most consistent Ms. Marvel decks in the meta. This one is built to smash the mirror with Echo to ruin the opponent’s plans and Psylocke for you to ramp into your own Professor X.

Most of the rest of the deck should be familiar – get ahead with cards like Nebula and Medusa and steal a lane with Storm or Professor X. At that point Alioth wins the game, especially when combined with Ms. Marvel who operates as a cheaper Doctor Doom.

This deck is built for Echo, Alioth, and Ms. Marvel, unfortunately for those who are missing those cards. You can try Nightcrawler for Jeff, though, and Klaw and Gamora do a decent job of replacing Iron Lad. If you don’t have Nebula, buy her $15 bundle in two weeks, but Iceman or the aforementioned Nightcrawler fill that spot for the time being.

If you want a turn-by-turn guide for the deck, click the deck title in this article.

Deck Thoughts:

This deck being top 1000 in the world is proof positive that you don’t need Ms. Marvel to lockdown. Instead, this deck goes with the classics, using either Storm or Jean Grey to keep an opponent playing where you want to steal the game.

This deck manages a nice meta match-up right now, as a lot of decks around have no real answer for Spider-Woman or Alioth, and them closing off a lane allows your other cards, notably Nebula, Jeff the Baby Land Shark, and Captain Marvel to steal the game. As an added bonus, we have the gone and forgotten to most players Storm on 4 into Legion on 5 lock the gameplay.

If you’re seeing a lot of Shuri, I could not recommend this deck more. Quake does a hilarious job of ruining Shuri plays and Shang helps when you miss.

You can play Nightcrawler for Jeff and Echo (or I guess Iceman) for Nico Minoru. Nebula lacks a good change – we’re at Iceman and Nightcrawler again, but you can also try Medusa or Sunspot. Alioth is kind of okay as Doctor Doom or Leader, but you need Legion.

Deck Thoughts:

Well, I didn’t expect this. Long-time readers will know I absolutely adore The Phoenix Force decks, but this take really adds something to the obvious win condition of Human Torch or Multiple Man, eat it, and win… and that something is lockdown. Thanks for Minh from the Vietnamese community for this one!

Move is one of the best high-power early games around. Remember Storm on 4 then Legion on 5? You should if you read the last section. This deck does an amazing job of making sure that has enough power to steal cubes.

You can replace Ghost-Spider OR Nico with Iron Fist, but not both. The Phoenix Force and Legion are needed. I’d probably cut Cloak for America Chavez.

Deck Thoughts:

With everyone trying to dumb cards, Sandman is currently in a great position to win games of Marvel Snap. Our friend FaThorNewman is one of the biggest Sandman fans in the game, and he hit Infinite super quickly with this one.

The play patterns haven’t changed much for this deck – Electro into Sandman or Wave into a 6, but Ms. Marvel adds another element here, as now Sandman has another way to double Doom and can just play Ms. Marvel on four, five, or six when it misses its ramp. The swing card here is Luke Cage – a card added so afflict and locations weren’t running the deck over, and with that, we have an easy recipe for Infinite!

Jeff can be Nightcrawler, although that kills the last-turn play of Ms. Marvel and Jeff after Sandman. You need Ms. Marvel, 100%, but Alioth is reasonably okay as Leader. Nebula can be Iceman for disruption or Echo for protection OR Medusa for stats.

Deck Thoughts:

The great Lamby, the #1 player in Snap, had this fun Sandman take! This deck can win one of two ways. Let’s talk about the Sandman route first.

For the Sandman route, you want to use Pyslocke on 3 to ramp into Sandman on 4. You can also use Iron Lad to try to cheat the card out. There are also worse things than Sandman on 5 after a Ms. Marvel on 4. At that point, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Doom, and Leader lock the game up.

Of course, sometimes you won’t Sandman here. At that point, you play a good, clean Darkhawk game with Killmonger available to wreck some of the bounce and Loki players early game. Darkhawk and Ms. Marvel on 4 and 5 leading into Doom or Leader wins plenty of games of Snap.

You need the Darkhawk package and Ms. Marvel here. Jeff has extra importance in a Sandman deck, but Medusa is an okay replacement. Iron Lad can be replaced with Jubilee.

New Look Loki

Loki has been the best deck in Snap for almost three months now, but at least we’re seeing some innovation within Loki builds!

Deck Thoughts:

You can tell what I think of Gladiator by the fact that he’s not getting his own section this week. In fact, this Mill deck is the only time Gladiator appears at all!

This deck combines Beast bounce with Gladiator, Yondu, and Cable to mill out the opponent. Cable adds a card to your hand, and Loki loves having a full hand, so he’s a natural fit to give this deck another actual win condition. In addition, Werewolf by Night loves all these Ongoings and the bounce from Beast and Falcon makes the deck have space for him.

The mill is cute, but Gladiator is mostly here for his stats while Loki and Werewolf do the rest of the job of winning the game.

If you’re making replacements for this deck, start with Collector, Snowguard, Quinjet, and, you know, the general better cards that work with Loki. Still, this one is both fun and annoying for the opponent, so if that’s your jam…

If you want a turn-by-turn on how to play the deck, check the video linked in the title.

Deck Thoughts:

First and foremost, this is worse than your regular old Loki deck, but oh my is it more fun!

Adding Zabu to let you Loki on 3, especially after some early draw cards is stellar. Going Lady Sif to discard a Helicarrier and then either Ghost Rider for 13 or Loki with three extra cards? Yes, please. And oh my do all these combos grow Collector. Quinjet on Nick Fury cards often wins, and Zabu and Quinjet turn your Agent Coulson 4 into a 2.

Mirage can be a Sentinel here, while Snowguard would be Maria Hill. You can’t play this version without Zabu and Loki though.

Miscellaneous Decks

These are powerful decks that didn’t fit in the other categories for the week. Don’t let the section title fool you – these are some of the best decks this week!

Deck Thoughts:

First things first – this is a Conquest deck! It’s looking for high rolls and retreating a lot when it doesn’t have them… but when this deck pops off…!

You can obviously see Moon Girl, Magik, and She-Hulk here. When those cards are combined with Doctor Doom, the power output on a turn 7 play is stellar and goes over the top of most decks. That’s plan one here, and a way to win and take a lot of cubes in the process.

Plan two is to use Zabu with Jessica Jones and Rescue to put out crazy power. Turn 3 Rescue into turn 4 Jessica Jones is 20 power in a lane, all but forcing the opponent to abandon ship early. From there, She-Hulk, Doom, Enchantress, and Lizard take you home, as everything well ahead of rate in power and cost makes it hard for an opponent to maintain tempo.

Zabu is key here, but Iron Lad could work as Jubilee.

Check the vid for the play-by-play.

Deck Thoughts:

Bastriot is one of my favorite decks ever in Marvel Snap, and after Ema, a top-10-ranked player in the game, brought it back, I decided to hit Infinite with it this month.

This one is pretty simple – it uses Bast to cheat out a bunch of cards that have way more power than they’re supposed to – cards like Mysterio and Mystique, and then pumps them with Patriot. When that isn’t enough, Valkyrie chops the opponent down to size, and we have a long-forgotten great deck back in the meta – one that only requires Series 3 cards!

Iron Man is insane here and lets you go way over the top of opponents. People will feel safe with a Death and Venom in a lane, but Iron Man and Valkyrie make that an extremely unsafe proposition for the opponent.

You know the drill – turn by turn in the link above.

Deck Thoughts:

Since pre-release, we’ve been making Shuri Red Skull decks work with Black Knight, but CubeReaper had the idea of throwing in Werewolf by Night, and now this good but inconsistent deck can work on ladder!

We have two packages here – the standard Shuri Red skull comes with Vision and Taskmaster here, as expected, while Black Knight works, as always, with Blade, Infinaut, Lady Sif, and Ghost Rider.

These cards combined are nearly unmatched in huge end-game power, but the deck wanted something in the middle to passively grow. Werewolf By Night adds that especially nicely, as you should have Initiative going into the last turn with your huge cards. At that point, a last-turn Taskmaster or Ghost Rider gets right around Alioth, and if the opponent uses Shang-Chi? A 9-ish power Werewolf often wins that lane anyway!

You need Black Knight and Werewolf By Night, sorry, but this one is legit.
