Sleeper Decks of the Week – New Spider-Versus Season

In this new series by PulseGlazer, find out which decks are (secretly) dominating the meta! You'll also find fun and interesting deck lists that aren't "technically" bad. Catch your opponents off-guard for the new Spider-Versus season!

Hello everyone, and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper Decks this week. In addition to the podcast, I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (Twitter and the various sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices. Each day has an A deck and a B deck – the A deck could be a top performer while the B deck is more experimental and, sometimes, even fun tier. Welcome to my weekly round up of these decks!

Deck Thoughts: Okay okay, this one is just famous, but this week we had Lamby on the podcast and he took us through his favorite deck in the game. After a lot of talk and even more testing, this is the version that the best Thanos player in the game landed on. The trick with this one is to Snap early – Mind Stone or Lockjaw mean go for it. You won’t win all those games, but they’re the fastest way to profit.

If your opponent has Kitty Pryde, then Wave or Leech are your answers. Everything else should struggle due to the sheer amount of power you put on the board. Don’t forget to prioritize your draw.

If you don’t have Thanos, the regular Lockjaw version might be the best deck to climb with right now.

If you don’t have High Evolutionary, you can replace Hulk with Leader and High Evolutionary with, well, any good card. The most common card in that slot is Odin, but I’m partial to Valkyrie or Blue Marvel.

Deck Thoughts: Safety is a genius. If you got The Living Tribunal, this is the place to start. The shell using Mister Negative is immediately one of the most consistent ways to play the card, and Tribunal turns what is too often a “win two lanes” game plan into a good way to win three. You have Bast to power up cards like Iron Man, Mystique, and Mister Negative (should Negative not hit them).

You’ll also need to get Jane Foster Mighty Thor before you Negative here to take advantage of her drawing up to five cards in the deck. In fact, given Jane’s presence, there’s a real argument for Jubilee being Angela. Still, Jubilee, inverted or not, on Turn 5 gives you an extra chance to see an important piece of the deck.

The perfect draw is something like Bast -> Zabu -> Mister Negative -> Jubilee -> Jane Foster Mighty Thor and then go off on Turn 6 with as much as possible. If that happens, by the way, you’d stay in for a 1,000 cubes. 8 just doesn’t feel like enough.

Deck Thoughts: A viewer was getting beaten by a version of this deck, so I went on a hunt for the highest win rate version. I have no idea who made this – Hoogland messed with something similar – but this combination just goes off. Do not feel like you need to play Shuri here, as the true power is how many play lines might be optimal given the context of the game. Early on, you want to be playing Kitty Pryde on Angela over and over or saving up energy for the benefits to Sunspot, Misty Knight, and Hulk. Here are just a few of the lines for the late game.

Turn 5 Shuri and Kitty Pryde -> Turn 6 Kitty Pryde and Taskmaster OR Turn 5 Magik -> Turn 6 Hulk -> Turn 7 Taskmaster and Kitty Pryde OR Turn 5 Magik -> skip Turn 6 -> Turn 7 Hulk and She-Hulk or Taskmaster, She-Hulk, and Kitty Pryde OR Turn 4 Shuri -> skip Turn 5 -> Turn 6 She-Hulk and Taskmaster.

In all of these scenarios, you’re dropping crazy power late – upwards of 35 with most lines. If you miss classic the Shuri Zero or Dracula Dump, this is the deck for you.

Deck Thoughts: Moyen is the most successful tournament player in the game thus far. He’s been on Patriot since KMBest released Patriot Lad and is working to make the deck beat the incredibly powerful Kitty Pryde Bounce decks. If you run into a lot of Kitty Pryde, this is the deck for you. The main play to beat Kitty is to use Invisible Woman to hide a Killmonger. This deck also handles the Patriot Mirror with Super-Skrull as well as Galactus players with Debrii.

All around, this deck has an answer for everything. I urge you to use Mister Sinister, Brood, and Debrii to good effect since, without Mystique, this deck would really like the opportunity to play Onslaught on top of either Blue Marvel or Patriot on the last turn.

If you don’t have Iron Lad, you’re back to a classic Moyen Patriot list. It can win, but there are better decks for climbing right now in this article. That deck re-adds Mystique and Ultron, removing Doctor Doom and (obviously) Iron Lad. It also wants Abomination over Brood. For that, Killmonger is obviously far more dangerous, so maybe keep the Doctor Doom. It’s certainly close and will depend on your meta.

For those of you able to make this deck, when Conquest Mode releases this will be an excellent place to start.

Deck Thoughts: WWLos is the originator of DoomWave, and he’s figured out how to make it work several times since the Wave change. This combines the deck that became known as Stats.Deck (it was created by our own SafetyBlade originally – did you know he’s a genius?) with the DoomWave concept, and it adds Aero because there sure is a lot of Galactus on the ladder.

Gameplay here is fairly simple as you want Nightcrawler, Zabu, Rockslide, and either Iron Lad or Darkhawk on the first four turns. Then, with a move on Turn 4, you can Wave and Miles Morales to drop eight power and decide how to win Turn 6 with each player only being able to play one card.

The real challenge of this deck is figuring out when to Wave vs. just play a regular decent sized card (Zabu is a good hint). The second major decision is whether to play Doctor Doom on the last turn or play America Chavez, Aero, or even Darkhawk. There’s no clear answer, but reps will teach you what to look for.

Some of you don’t have Jeff the Baby Land Shark. I know. Replace him with Polaris, who you’ll need to then be playing on Turn 4 if you didn’t already have Nightcrawler out. Iron Lad can easily become Enchantress or Shang-Chi. Darkhawk is pretty important, but you aren’t dead if he’s Drax or Crossbones.

Deck Thoughts: Sr L0L is one of my favorite creators in the game. He regularly posts wildly successful decks, and his win rate with them is just off the charts. This deck basically combines DoomWave with Lane Control into a wonderful smorgasbord. I’m a Quake truther, as our friend Keen Koala hits Infinite with her every season. This deck takes that Quake package and just turns the dial to 11 by combining it with good cards.

I wouldn’t play this without Jeff the Baby Land Shark. He’s too important here to get into a bunch of dangerous lanes. You can live without the Iron Lad, though. Look into America Chavez for consistency, or my personal favorite card that no one expects: Klaw.

Deck Thoughts: I don’t know SuperMariLink. He’s not a content creator. But tell me this isn’t the coolest and dumbest thing you’ve ever seen. Go ahead. Tell me. Sera is a stroke of genius here, allowing you to play Cerebro, Mystique, AND another card on the last turn. Moon Girl? Well, now you have two Cerebros more often. Crystal does that too. Klaw helps you go wide. This deck is a thing of beauty. Is it good? Well, if joy is good, then so is this deck.

Deck Thoughts: Did you know that, on the Marvel Snap Zone Discord, there’s a spot you can hang with us? Well, our friend Turbo and I made a deck there. He hits Infinite with Sera every season, but was struggling with all the Wave going around. As I was processing this problem, I realized Magik could be the solution, so we drafted this up.

In this deck, Magik acts as an extra Sera or a Wave counter, and when you can Magik on Turn 5 then Sera and Kitty Pryde on Turn 6, well, the deck really gets insanely strong. We also stole the Invisible Woman/Killmonger play from Moyen to be sure we can overpower other Kitty Pryde decks.

There’s some clunkiness around the cost of Bishop and whether Nova or Jeff the Baby Land Shark are better for the deck, but there’s something here. Try it and let us know!

Deck Thoughts: Finally, I wanted to make a Pride Month Bundle deck, so I grabbed some of my favorite queer characters in Marvel Snap (Kitty Pryde, Iceman, Bast, Angela, Magik, Sera, and America Chavez) and figured out how to turn them into a deck. You’ll see here the Sera/Magik combo from the last deck, and, yes, this deck probably also wants Hit Monkey and Mysterio (but it works surprisingly well without them).

  1. In the first deck, you commented that “Leech” can counteract “Kitty Pride”, but from my experience this doesn’t happen, in turn 5 I played “Leech” with a player that had “Kitty Pride” which played in turn 6 with 10 stacked power. How is it possible?

    • There was a dev comment on the official Discord clarifying this recently – Leech does indeed NOT work against Kitty, since her Power “is a modifier that’s permanently applied after a trigger event, the same way Nakia or Forge do for other cards”. Just removing her ability for the last turn doesn’t affect the gains from previous turns.
I suppose if there was a Turn 7/Limbo in the game, she wouldn’t be able to bounce back one last time once Leeched? But that’s about it.

  2. That’s a nifty concept to have as another featured write-up series! Appreciate the added insights about the various deck oddities, and replacement suggestions where applicable.
