Sleeper Decks of the Week – One Week Into the Spider-Versus

There's a lot to like in this week's Sleeper Decks. Wish Bounce was good after the nerfs? Want to play Ronan the Accuser? Miss the old Shuri? All your dreams could come true in here!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week!  I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper decks this week. In addition to the podcast, I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (<ahem> Twitter and the various sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices. Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out!

Deck Thoughts: This isn’t really a sleeper, but since I played it to Infinite with an 80% win rate even after the nerfs, I thought it was still worth discussing. The bounce here is nice, particularly for Kitty Pryde and as a way to buff The Collector, but it isn’t needed. Instead, this deck focuses on using Kitty Pryde to pump up Angela and Bishop before dropping an Iron Man to send the deck’s power through the roof.

Indeed, the most important card besides Kitty Pryde herself is Bast who pumps every card in the deck except Falcon, with whom she is even, and the new Beast, who loses one power. Mysterio becoming a 2|9, a head-start for Hit Monkey, Angela, Bishop, and a giant six power bump to Iron Man and The Hood all make Bast an absolute key to the deck. Just be careful not to Bast your Demon!

Everyone should currently have Kitty Pryde, meaning Hit Monkey is the only card above Series 3 in the deck. Unfortunately, though, with the decrease in the viability of the Bounce package – it’s a nice bonus now, not a go-to – I can’t suggest running the deck without Hit Monkey. The closest thing to a replacement is probably changing the deck fundamentally for cards like Korg, Black Widow, and Darkhawk.

Deck Thoughts: Moyen is arguably the best player in the game right now, so it absolutely boggles my mind how little traction his decks often get in the community. The man does nothing but win tournaments, and, especially with Conquest Mode coming, it’s time to pay attention.

This deck tries to gain early power by using the Move package to get ahead. The goal of this early power is to set up a Turn 5 Wave and 2-Cost movement card: Cloak or Ghost-Spider. This, in combination with a card that grows on moving like Human Torch, Dagger, or Vulture, creates a huge power burst on Turn 5 locking the game to just one play on Turn 6. At that point, you have a choice of Doctor Doom to add five power to each lane, or moving everything over with Heimdall to further your power spike – whichever the game demands!

You absolutely must have Ghost-Spider for this deck to work. Playing Wave with either Ghost-Spider or Cloak is the deck’s main strategy. Iron Lad is not needed, however, and can easily be replaced by Jeff the Baby Land Shark, Nightcrawler, Enchantress, or Shang-Chi.

Deck Thoughts: SafetyBlade is a genius. This deck takes advantage of Invisible Woman to give your opponent cards at the end of the game with Master Mold and Maximus after they can no longer benefit from the draw. Wave and Master Mold on Turn 5 is especially devastating – and it often creates a Hulk-sized Ronan the Accuser. Most of the rest of the deck is good cards that are able to gain power and win lanes before the lockdown of Wave.

Goose is excellent in that regard as it can stop a card from being played at all in a lane on the last turn once Wave has made all cards cost four. When the opponent can only play one card, Aero is also extremely powerful because it lets you choose where your opponent plays their card. Aero is also a reasonable play on either Turn 5 or Turn 6 when Wave isn’t drawn.

Master Mold is a must and key to the deck – it even bears his name. You could conceivably make this deck work without Nebula, though at that point you are also very likely to cut Armor as only Sunspot would be worth protecting. Then you should be running powerful 2-Cost cards like Lizard and the newly buffed Medusa to try to steal lanes under Goose.

Deck Thoughts: Let’s stick with SafetyBlade for a bit longer, as his genius here allows you to combine the earlier Bounce deck with the earlier Move deck. This is the peanut butter and chocolate of the meta, as Move cards love getting returned to hand cheaper to move again with their On Reveal effects. This deck does take a hit again with the Beast nerf, but there’s just a lot of power here, particularly in Kitty Pryde and multiple Human Torch or Dagger moves.

You cannot really play this without Hit Monkey, though if you must try, add Vulture in that spot.

Deck Thoughts: Everyone in Marvel Snap knows Molt as the Move Master, but, much like the Skywalkers, there is another. Kraken Null hits Infinite with Move every season, meta or not; this is his starting deck for this season, the season of move.

You will immediately notice that this is a full-on traditional Move deck with all the pieces. Most of the cards here are very obvious, so let’s focus on the difference between this deck and Moyen’s above. First, we have Jeff the Baby Land Shark here. Jeff is not only a move enabler that can trigger Miles Morales on demand for playing with Wave, but he can also always trigger Kraven and be the card that is played with Wave on Turn 5.

The other major difference is Magneto. Magneto is a huge body that offers some defensive counter play on the last turn. With it, you can move cards like Darkhawk where you want them – which is always an especially fun combo on Rickety Bridge or against a deck like Silver Surfer.

Should you generally listen to other Marvel Snap players instead of Moyen in terms of deck choices? No, but Kraken Null’s experience with this archetype makes this one a potential exception to that rule.

Deck Thoughts: The next three decks are doing to feature Shuri with different Move shells in high win rate decks. I believe the secret to these decks right now is Shuri because she takes Move’s power well above the threshold that most decks can comfortably beat. This deck, like so many before, uses the obvious early power of Kitty Pryde and Angela combined with a Move package. Nightcrawler, Ghost-Spider, and Iron Fist all help you play your Move cards on Angela, granting her the buff, and then fly off to leave space for further buffs. When those cards are Vulture or Dagger, the power can become astounding.

The obvious play from here is Shuri on Turn 4 into Black Bolt on Turn 5, then go wide on Turn 6; but that’s not often the game plan. Move is still amassing power on Turn 4, so Black Bolt is often the play on Turn 5 but Turn 6 becomes devoted to making a huge play with cards like Kitty Pryde or Stature after Shuri on the same turn. This causes a huge power spike the opponent likely won’t be ready for.

The only Series 4 or higher card in this deck is Stature, and replacing her means also replacing Black Bolt. This is a strange suggestion, but at that point you might consider Ebony Maw and Sauron. If Ebony Maw is in play, cards can still move to that lane, and Sauron first makes for a great Ebony Maw spike play. Other acceptable are cards include Beast or Human Torch, as seen earlier in this very article.

Deck Thoughts: Sometimes you just want to put the new cards together. This deck uses Shuri in order to double the power of an Evolved Abomination or a Stature on the last turn of the game. Most of the rest of the deck is trying to lower the power of the opponent’s cards to make your Evolved Abomination cheaper.

Goose makes another appearance here to help lock major power out of a lane, and the deck uses Nebula, Mister Fantastic, Captain Marvel, and numerous other cards that get cheaper to sneak power in. Why is Ghost-Spider here? Moving big power is a great way to get extra cubes!

Black Bolt and Stature are great here, absolutely stellar, but the deck works fine without them. An Evolved Hulk and Evolved The Thing make this deck a bit cheaper for the player. No Nebula? Sunspot is always a good pick, but perhaps an even better choice would be Evolved Wasp.

Deck Thoughts: Second Dinner released an OTA that killed the best-named deck of all time, as it must now cut Spider-Man because he no longer really fits into the deck. What a shame. Spidey should now be Shang-Chi or Enchantress.

MariLink, a valued and awesome member of our Marvel Snap Zone Discord, hit Infinite with this deck. It’s play is fantastic. What it does is move big power around the board. My favorite way to do that in this deck is to Shuri into Doctor Octopus. Then, if 20 power won’t win the lane, that huge Otto Octavius can be pulled by Ghost-Spider to win another lane or pushed a lane to the left by Heimdall.

This deck runs the extremely powerful and oft-forgotten Darkhawk package with Zabu, Korg, Rockslide, and, of course, Darkhawk to both disrupt the opponent and gain a bunch of power. Further disruption is offered by Green Goblin and Aero, both of whom are awesome answers for Galactus. In addition, Green Goblin is excellent in helping Nebula steal extra power, while Aero is a great Shuri target when you don’t find Doc Ock.

Can this deck be played without the Darkhawk package? I wouldn’t try it without Zabu, but, strangely, without Darkhawk himself, Drax does a reasonable enough imitation. Nebula can, as always, just be Sunspot if needed.

Deck Thoughts: Okay, enough Move, and definitely enough Shuri. Let’s counter the meta. This Silver Surfer list does exactly that by offering multiple ways to ruin an opponent’s day. Kingpin is the key here, as Magneto, Polaris, Aero, and Juggernaut all offer ways to force an opponent into bad situations on Turn 6. Add in the fact that many opponents will also be playing Move cards themselves and you have quite a powerful trick here. Killmonger offers a bit of Kitty Pryde protection, and a Sera on Turn 5 can lead to both Aero and Silver Surfer on Turn 6!

This deck contains only Series 3 cards – no substitutions needed. If you want an extra tech card for the meta that’s good in Silver Surfer, I suggest you try Shadow King because it makes growing Move or Shuri cards very, very sad.

Deck Thoughts: We talked about this deck last week, and a member of our Discord named Turbo has hit Infinite with our creation. He had a win rate of 62% with a cube rate well over 1. Yes, not 0.1 – 1. This deck is SWEET, and now numerous people are cleaning up with it. The trick with the deck is not to go for the high roll play since you can answer everything. Invisible Woman early opens up many possibilities: hiding a Killmonger, Enchantress, or Shang-Chi to ruin the opponent’s timing; Hit Monkey for big late power; and just throwing priority by not revealing power.

Magik here often operates as an extra Sera when Sera isn’t drawn on time, and, as Bootman often says, opponents badly misplay around the extra turn. That’s not the main point of Magik here, though – that point is to play around the near omnipresent Wave. Magik on Turn 5 and Sera on Turn 6 gives you an explosive turn with no limits on Turn 7. After Magik, if Sera isn’t in hand, Bishop is often an excellent play, as well as either Shang-Chi or Enchantress (with the right target).

This deck is all Series 3 besides Hit Monkey. Again, though, he is just needed for this deck. Hit Monkey on Turn 7 after Sera is absolutely crazy power.
