Welcome to our new series of Marvel Snap guides, where we feature a Series 4 or 5 card and analyze how to use it. The goal is to give you a tutorial on how to use the card most effectively in an everchanging meta, as well as help you decide if the card is worth the tokens or if you should pick it up during a Spotlight Cache week!
We will aim to revise this guide each time it becomes featured in a Spotlight Cache. If the card becomes rebalanced or the meta has changed a lot, please let us know in the comments and we will look to update it based on demand!

Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop initially as a Weekly Spotlight card, or opened as one of the featured cards in the Spotlight Caches that are found every 120 Levels on the Collection Level Track after Collection Level 500 (until the next new card releases the following week).
Who is Skaar?

Skaar is the child of Hulk and Caiera. After Hulk left Sakaar and Caiera was killed in an explosion, Skaar was left alone at birth. After being found by a local to Sakaar, Old Sam, Skaar was trained and taught as he matured. Skaar would later venture to Earth and be reunited with his father.
In the Disney Plus series She-Hulk, Skaar makes his first live action appearance. Though his origins are less clear in the MCU, he is likely to be expanded upon as a character as the universe continues to expand.
How to Use Skaar
Skaar is a payoff card for synergistic decks. Like She-Hulk is a payoff for High Evolutionary decks, Death is a payoff for Destroy decks, Skaar is a payoff for decks that play big cards early. Essentially, Skaar is a big stat stick that lowers in cost. It’s a simple ability that focuses more on synergies than anything else.
Best Synergies
Skaar cares only about cards that have 10 or more Power. Since you need high Power placed before the end of the game, early game options are always best. That means Attuma, Crossbones. Cull Obsidian, Sentry, and Typhoid Mary are all options that can lower Skaar‘s cost to be playable on turn 4 (with Zabu‘s assistance) or turn 5. He also works well with She-Hulk since you can play her early by skipping turn 3.

Cards that give extra Power are also great to boost Skaar‘s ability! For example: Forge can give a direct +2, Okoye can give +1 to your deck, Nakia can give +1 to your hand, and America Chavez can give +2 to your top deck. This extra Power can give cards a push to (or above) the 10 Power mark, lowering Skaar‘s cost.

Ramp cards like Hope Summers, Wave, and Corvus Glaive can also give you a boost with Skaar. Since they allow you to ramp out big cards sooner, you can more effectively lower his cost.

Best Deck
Skaar‘s most popular deck is with Thanos. Since the deck naturally wants to ramp out big cards using the Infinity Stones, Skaar frequently gets discounted and can bring extra value. The deck utilized the synergies of Hope Summers, Wave, and Cull Obsidian to further Skaar‘s discounts.
Fun Off-Meta Deck
This deck aims to simply dump Power and win with purr attrition. Using the synergies of Hope Summers and Crossbones, you can drop high powered cards quickly and keep the momentum with Skaar. Blob makes an appearance here as well with several high Powered cards available for him to eat.
Weaknesses and Things to Avoid
Skaar‘s main weakness is to Mobius M. Mobius. Since Mobius prevents opponents cards from lowering in Cost, Skaar is unable to be discounted. Obviously this defeats the text of the card, making him a simple [6/11].

Another counter for Skaar is Shang-Chi. Besides being within Power range for Shang-Chi to Destroy Skaar, Shang-Chi can also eliminate cards you needed to discount Skaar. No big cards means no discounts.

Closing Thoughts
Skaar is a basic star stick, but difficult to frequently ramp out early. Aside from a Thanos deck, Skaar just has a hard time being played on a round earlier than 6, and you often find Skaar less helpful than other 6-Cost cards. In the current meta that focuses on heavy synergies or playing lots of cards, Skaar simply doesn’t have what it takes to stay meta relevant.
