Best Rocket and Groot Decks to Try on Day 1 and Strategy Guide

Rocket and Groot enters the Marvel Snap arena! Read about the new Series 5 card's strengths and weaknesses and find some decks to try it out in here!

Rocket and Groot is the next Series 5 card joining Marvel Snap for the December 2024 season, Marvel Rivals. It is a 3-Cost, 3 Power card that reads: You can move this once. After your opponent plays a card here, steal 1 Power from it.

Today, we will take a deeper look at the new card and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.

Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop initially as a Weekly Spotlight card, or opened as one of the featured cards in the Spotlight Caches that are found every 120 Levels on the Collection Level Track after Collection Level 500 (until the next new card releases the following week).

Strengths and Weaknesses

Being a 3-Cost card in Marvel Snap is no easy task. Indeed, you are competing with the likes of Copycat, Red Guardian, and Cosmo for a slot, in addition to the cards that synergize with your deck. As such, becoming a meta staple as a 3-Cost card might be harder than any other cost at the moment. Honestly, this is Rocket and Groot‘s biggest weakness: it is hard to imagine not finding enough 3-Cost cards to make a deck, which naturally makes the new card look like a skip if you’re saving resources.

Let’s look past the current state of the 3-Cost pool for a second and consider the fact that Second Dinner has proven time and time again they are not afraid to nerf cards. Maybe Rocket and Groot could have some merit in the future, or as a synergistic option in specific archetypes. I can picture Toxic making sense, as Rocket and Groot would synergize with Ajax by stealing power from the opponent’s cards. It might also work with Malekith, although summoning a three power card isn’t ideal.

Apart from Toxic, I thought about Lockdown since Rocket and Groot could be a decent setup to Storm if you don’t have a way to go from two to four energy.

The other synergies Rocket and Groot might work well with are not really played at the moment.

Obviously, Rocket and Groot also acts as a soft enabler for the other Guardians of the Galaxy because you can expect your opponent to play on a different location. It isn’t perfect, but it makes it a 50% bet rather than a 33%.

The Verdict

Rocket and Groot looks like a fine card overall, but I see it being eclipsed too easily by the other options available in the game currently. If Rocket and Groot was given to me, I would likely test it and have some fun with the card. However, paying 6,000 Collector’s Tokens or a few Spotlight Keys just to find out I can keep Copycat and Red Guardian in my deck doesn’t sound too appealing all of a sudden.

Rocket and Groot Decks

To be fair, Rocket and Groot does not look strong enough to push its own deck, so the card will likely have to find a slot in an existing deck in order to see play.

Here a few ideas of current solid decks you could include the new card in, as well as a low Collection Level friendly deck.

Closing Thoughts

Rocket and Groot is honestly a pretty decent card, but I fear the competition might be too fierce for it to see play. Indeed, Copycat, Red Guardian, and other such incredible standalone additions to any deck will often be the preferred choice for a 3-Cost card.

I would recommend buying Rocket and Groot only if you see a specific appeal in the card, or if you expect a future update to shake up the 3-Cost card pool significantly.

I hope this review of the new card was helpful. Feel free to share your opinions and excitement about the card in the comments. You can find everyone on the Marvel Snap Zone team in our community discord to have a chat or ask any questions.
