Peni Parker is the next Series 5 card joining Marvel Snap for the December 2024 season, Marvel Rivals. It is a 2-Cost, 3 Power card that reads: On Reveal: Add SP//dr to your hand. When this merges, you get +1 Energy next turn. SP//dr is a 3-cost, 3 Power card that reads: On Reveal: Merge with one of your cards here. You can move that card next turn.
Today, we will take a deeper look at the new card and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.

Spotlight Cache
Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop initially as a Weekly Spotlight card, or opened as one of the featured cards in the Spotlight Caches that are found every 120 Levels on the Collection Level Track after Collection Level 500 (until the next new card releases the following week).
Strengths and Weaknesses
Peni Parker looks like another “Good Cards” kind of card that doesn’t build toward any specific synergy like Destroy, Discard, or Move. On her own, Peni Parker is a [5/6] that gives you an extra energy and can move for a turn. Pricey, but already not too bad considering you can split the five energy needed over two turns. This last part is what could make Peni Parker a scary card, as it gives the new 2-Cost a ton of flexibility.

In addition to the SP//dr that is created by Peni Parker, there are other cards in the game that you can merge with Peni Parker to gain an extra energy. In particular, I have my eyes on Agony, a card that has yet to find a reason to be played and curves nicely into Peni Parker to cheat out a 4-Cost on Turn 3.
Speaking of 4-Cost cards, let’s talk about one of the most important synergies with Peni Parker:

In a deck with Quicksilver (which many Wiccan decks already run), Peni Parker is enough to guarantee your 4-Cost will trigger safely. Otherwise, throw Psylocke or Zabu in your deck with Agony and Peni Parker and you should be able to routinely play Wiccan on Turn 3.
I’ve said this plenty of times in the past: a card only needs one good deck to leave its mark on the meta. If Peni Parker indeed becomes one of Wiccan‘s go-to pairings, you can expect to a see a lot of the 2-Cost in the near future.
The Verdict
There isn’t a lot to say about Peni Parker, except that extra energy is great in Marvel Snap and the new card enables one of the best energy engines in the game, Wiccan. With that said, the starting point for Peni Parker is probably just to play her in Wiccan decks and see how good she is there.
If the 2-Cost passes this (rather simple) test, there are plenty of other synergies to be explored with the card. For example, I wouldn’t rule out the ability to move granted by SP//dr; it could be pretty strong with high power cards, keeping your opponent in the dark regarding which location they should Shang-Chi or Shadow King.
Pre-Release Score:
Peni Parker Decks
In this first list, Peni Parker not only makes the deck more reliable towards playing Wiccan, she also gives the deck another shot at playing Gorr and Alioth in the same game. The only requirement is playing SP//dr on Peni on Turn 4. Of course,
Here’s another Wiccan list with some strong cards if you need other ideas, as well as the Thanos build and Surtur Wiccan build.
While I believe Wiccan will be the only reasonable foundation for Peni Parker until we know the new card can carry a deck, there are other ideas that you can experiment around.
Move cards and Namora were a thing in the past—back when we believed in Symbiote Spider-Man. Peni Parker probably isn’t enough to make this deck as good as it was back in September, but the card sure fits the mold if you liked playing this type of deck.
Another way to be flexible is to keep most of your power in your hand until late in the match. Peni Parker doesn’t fit this theme as well as the previous deck’s, but I believe Scarlet Spider will be a great target for SP//dr. Plus, she gives this low-curve deck more cards to play in case the important 4-Costs don’t all show up.
Variants
Closing Thoughts
Peni Parker comes in as instant reinforcement for Wiccan in the current environment. However, Peni Parker releases the same day as a balance patch (and the same week as an OTA), both of which could potentially impact Wiccan considering the card’s performance over the previous two weeks.
I don’t know what is in the OTA yet, and I didn’t factor it into my review of Peni Parker. Obviously, if Wiccan leaves the picture and the new card has to rely on Scarlet Spider or Agony to be played, it might be much more difficult to justify spending your Spotlight Keys on it.
I hope this review of the new card was helpful. Feel free to share your opinions and excitement about the card in the comments. You can find everyone on the Marvel Snap Zone team in our community discord to have a chat or ask any questions.
Good Game Everyone!
