Marvel Snap Weekly Roundup – June 4, 2023

Catch up on the upcoming new season, Conquest mode, Galactus, The Living Tribunal, new Bundles, and more in this week's roundup of Marvel Snap happenings!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Marvel Snap Weekly Roundup, your home for all of the major Marvel Snap happenings of the week from your friends here at Marvel Snap Zone. I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments, and I’ll be your guide through everything you need to know to keep up with this game we all love.

New Season Details

  • The Guardians’ Greatest Hits Season comes to an end at daily reset 6/5 (or 6/6 depending on where you are in the world).
  • Spider-Versus will launch, as always, when the previous season ends.
  • The new Season Pass Card will be Ghost-Spider. The season pass is expected to cost the same as always at $9.99 or your local equivalent.
  • The remainder of the Season will feature Silk, Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Ham.
  • Silk will cost 6000 Collector’s Tokens and release into Series (Pool) 5
  • Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Ham will each cost 3000 Collector’s Tokens and release into Series (Pool) 4.
  • This Season is also expected to contain Weekend Missions and a Daily Offer Reward System as a means to gain more Collector’s Tokens. More details on these, as they are confirmed.

Snap Judgments – This season is poised to be the biggest since the advent of Series 4 and 5 cards. Not only do we get a new mode (see below), but the impact of cards being released directly into Series 4 is almost impossible to overstate. We’ll need to see exactly how that, the Weekend Missions, and Daily Offer affect the Token economy in the game, but it’s nearly impossible for this to be anything but a net positive for the playing (and paying?) community.

Each card this season looks to have a home in the meta – no Snowguards here! Move has been desperate for another two drop enabler to go with Cloak, which Ghost-Spider provides.

Silk as a 2-5 matches the highest native power in that slot, and while I’m not sold on the ability, no less than Safetyblade has sworn by the power of this card.

Despite some confusing wording, Spider-Man 2099 has been confirmed to only kill upon his first move. There are certainly metagames where this is a dominant ability, so we’ll need to see how that shakes out, but when big cards and going tall are king, 2099 has a home.

Finally, Spider-Ham is almost a single target Leech. With Doctor Doom as the most popular high end card (outside of perhaps Galactus), turning enemy cards to Pigs seems extremely powerful.

Conquest Details Arrive!

Conquest Mode is the first new competitive mode in Marvel Snap!

Conquest Mode utilizes a series of Battle Mode matches.

There are four difficulty levels available:

  • Proving Grounds (win one match to unlock the next mode)
  • Silver (win two matches to unlock the next mode)
  • Gold (win three matches to unlock the next mode)
  • Infinity (win five matches to reach Infinite)

Each difficulty or level up requires you to not be defeated within that level.

Each level completed offers Medals. Medals have their own shop in which you can unlock in game currency and exclusive variants.

Infinity will only unlock in the last week of the season. Completing Infinity will unlock Infinite borders for Avatars.

You can read our article on Conquest Mode here.

Snap Judgments – Almost everything here is extremely exciting. This is going to shape the meta as Conquest will not only give us a far better idea of the best decks and players in the game, but will shape what and how people choose to play the game on ladder. I’m very excited for the exclusive variants, as well, though, to be fully honest, even an Infinite border cannot make me care about Avatars.

Galactus on the Watchlist

Galactus has been placed on the watch-list by Second Dinner according to Glenn:

Very simple question here. Galactus has been oppressive since March due to the strength of removing two thirds of the board. Is there a reason he hasn’t been changed in any balance updates, March, April, or May? Is SD happy with his gameplay or how he works and are unwanting of changes to him? Or is there another reason he hasn’t been changed yet?

The reason he hasn’t been changed is that the deck and its cards weren’t crossing our nerf thresholds, as a losing deck played by a small number of people doesn’t qualify as oppressive, even if it can be frustrating.

Recently, he has consistently remained too popular even with a weak win percentage, so we’re exploring potential adjustments. However, he is not a simple card to change, both from a design perspective and from a technological one. We’d rather make no change than one that accidentally makes him either stronger or unplayable, so we are exercising diligence as we figure out the best course.

Will Galactus be changing?

While ago you pointed out that galactus hasn’t reached the threshold you set for him, and that that threshold is much lower than for regular cards. Now my question is, has he crossed that line? He has been the most popular deck in the game since the beginning of previous season, and his play rate (at least according to 3rd party sources that are available to regular players like untapped) has been oscillating between 8% and 12%.

Yes, his play rate hasn’t subsided as we’d hoped. We’ve reviewed ways we can adjust his card to better accomplish our goals.

Has galactus finally crossed the threshold?

Check out Den’s article on potential changes here.

Snap Judgments – I hate Galactus – I refuse to buy him and don’t enjoy playing against him. I love Marvel Snap and its mechanics; Galactus fundamentally alters those. That said, I am not everyone and a large chunk of the player base loves Galactus. As such, I’ve been content to let him sit since despite a high play rate, the card’s win rate remained low.

However, now with Galactus’s win-rate’s growing and him winning tournaments, we may have reached a breaking point. All of that said, with both Conquest Mode and Spider-Ham releasing, I hope we can wait just a while longer before deciding on a potential change.

The Living Tribunal Released

The Living Tribunal has been released into Marvel Snap.

Check out all of our Living Tribunal decks here.

Snap Judgments – While this card is quite cool releasing it the week after High Evolutionary seems to have been a miscalculation. Evolutionary not only dominated much of the community’s Tokens, he also took home a huge play rate, leaving the interesting but hardly overpowered Tribunal in the dust. There will be a home for this card eventually, in all likelihood, but with the relative lack of attention the card received, we’ll all have to wait to see just where that home is.

Bundle Releases

Marvel’s Voices: Pride

$4.99 for an America Chavez and Iceman variant, avatar, and boosters for each.

Snap Judgments – This is a great deal since a single variant in the shop is about $10 worth of gold. Honestly though, I wish Second Dinner would have charged a little bit more for this and donated some of the profits to a worthy cause.

Ooga Chaka Ooga Ooga

2,000 Gold for 500 Collector’s Tokens, 1,500 Credits, and a Mystery Variant:
