Marvel Snap Balance OTA Analysis and New Decks to Play – December 18th

I love when I see an OTA full of buffs, even if they are nothing but power buffs that won’t change the cards’ fortune that much. Except for Iron Hand, the current metagame is quite balanced. Yet, even if the best environment eventually gets stale in the internet world we live in. As such, certain OTAs shouldn’t be about balance, but just to remind us certain cards or synergies are a possibility.

Granted, Vanilla cards and Colossus will largely feel the same and vanish after the early wave of YouTube videos tell us how improved they are. However, there are other cards which saw some play already, but never managed to remain relevant on the long run. Most likely, Master Mold or Falcon II”] won’t be that different as [2/3] rather than [2/2], but that’s not the point here. Sometimes, the goal is to give new avenues to explore, or remind us of some we forgot about, so we don’t get bored of playing Marvel Snap. I feel that is what this OTA is about.

The metagame is not going to change much, but maybe it doesn’t have to.

Nerfs

Iron Hand has been a fantastic archetype for multiple months already, but there was always a bigger problem to handle. After the last OTA took care of Move, Victoria Hand and Quinjet have dominated the Marvel Snap metagame, so a nerf was definately coming.
However, just like Second Dinner tried to nerf other cards before changing Human Torch, I feel like this one won’t change the power of Iron Hand that much.

It will have an impact on the mount of points developed early on, which could impact priority or Iron Patriot. However, the deck can still copy Victoria Hand with Frigga, or dupplicate it with Moon Girl. When that happens, Iron Hand probably still has a safe snap.

There are plenty of buffs in this OTA, so the gap with the other decks won’t be as wise. Yet, I could see Iron Hand be targeted against when Second Dinner comes back from their winter break.

Buffs

There are a ton of buffs in this OTA, so let’s sort them a little :

Vanilla Crew

These four changes all buff High Evolutionary and Patriot, although that second doesn’t use Hulk. Individually, none of these changes matters much. However, if we consider this could represent a bonus 3 to 4 power to a single deck, it becomes much more impactful.

Probably won’t change a thing

I don’t feel like any of these cards were a power away from being competitive options. Air Walker is the best of this bunch, but more due to the cards it can summon rather than itself. Then, this buff is more of a compensation for losing Morgan Le Fay in the previous OTA.

As for the other cards, Master Mold is the more intriguing. Indeed, the 2-cost typically serves as a disruptive tool and a way to buff Ronan the Accuser. If the rest of that deck was to receive a buff in the future, it could be close to something good. Indeed, power buffs always had a bigger impact on disruptive cards, since they already lower the opponent’s ceiling with their ability. Plus, priority is a key component in those decks.

Now grants +2 Power to the summoned 1-cost.

These three were niche, but playable cards. Cable in Mill, and sometimes Arishem. Wade Wilson in some Wolverine Weapon X”] Destroy decks to fetch Moira X or X-23 and remove a card from the deck. Joaquin Torres falcon II in Bounce or Zombie themed decks.

Out of those three buffs, Wade Wilson is the only one getting a real, meaningful boost, although the other two will be much better to seize priority, always an important part of Marvel Snap. However, what these changes do is put the spotlight on those cards, which is sometimes enough to rekindle an archetype we had given up on and forgot it existed.
