Fin Fang Foom is the third Series 5 card joining Marvel Snap for the January 2025 Season, Dragons. It is a 7-Cost, 12-Power card that reads: On Reveal: Gain the Power of front-row enemy cards here.

Today, let’s explore the new card strengths and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.
Series 5 cards can be purchased for 6,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop as the latest Seasonal Spotlight card. They will be also be included in the Seasonal Series 5 Snap Pack for 5,000 Collector’s Tokens during their season and the following one.
Synergies
Fin Fang Foom reminisces me of Blob, a high-power card we will use to dominate a location on the last turn of play. If we manage to get the card in play earlier, the likes of Arnim Zola, Taskmaster, or Absorbing Man add another layer of possibilities to get even more power in play.
However, that scenario would also open the way for Shang-Chi, Shadow King and such cards to take it out, so priority will play a key role in those patterns.
Before any of these scenarios can be discussed, we need to figure how to get Fin Fang Foom on the board. The card is a 7-cost, so extra energy, or an ability to get it in play is required.

There are a few more ways to get energy, but these are the more reliable ones as we know their impact before playing them. Magik is the riskiest on the list due to Merlin being extremely popular at the moment, but the 3-cost is a fine way in another environment.
Already, we can spot a few archetypes able to get Fin Fang Foom in play without much trouble:
- Ramp, the obvious landing spot for more high-cost cards without a specific synergy attached to them.
- Hela Discard, a specialist when it comes to summoning high-cost cards.
- Man-Spider, Black Panther or Nimrod type of decks, typically flanked by The Fallen One and Lune Snow, should work well with Fin Fang Foom.
- Arishem naturally gets to seven energy on turn six, so Fin Fang Foom can come in as a bomb to drop on the last turn.

Another way to get an expensive card in play is to summon it with another ability. Fin Fang Foom being a 7-cost, Blink would be very reliable, as we typically don’t run multiple of those in our deck. It would imply getting a six cost in play on turn five to target with Blink, but we would be in control of the outcome.
Lockjaw, Jubilee and Dragon Lord are a bit more random in how they operate, but adding Fin Fang Foom to their mix of possible summons should be a net benefit.
Now that we know how to summon Fin Fang Foom, we can ask ourselves whether it will be good. A 7-cost better be able to win a lane almost on its own, which will depend on the power of opposing front-row cards.
The math is simple : If the opponent doesn’t have more than 12 extra power in the back-row compared to its front-row, Fin Fang Foom takes the location.
It might seem simple to dodge the new card through playing your low power cards in front of your larger ones. Yet, there are many situations where this theory might prove difficult to apply to a game.
First, there are the likes of Destroy, who inevitable have a Venom, a Carnage or such other high power card end up in front due to their ability. Then, we can also use cards such as Elektra, Killmonger, and other ways to destroy opposing cards.
Last, there are plenty of cards we need to play early in order to grow their power. Chamber, Mobius, Wild Child, Thena, Angela… These have to be played early, so will inevitable end up on the front row.
The Verdict: Should You Get Fin Fang Foom?
The current metagame rewards a very specific synergy, which Fin Fang Foom does not synergize with, while flexible enough to control its front and back row. Thus, Shou-Lao the Undying might be a problem for the new 7-cost.
However, I have learned to not underestimate this type of card able to seize a location on its own. Plus, although it should be tricky to combo around the card, the cost should merely be a problem when it comes to playing Fin Fang Foom on its own with so many ways to create more energy available.
