Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone every weekday with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. If you want three more new decks today, check out this video!
Let’s start today by talking about Sam Wilson, the new Marvel Snap Season Pass Card.

This card is… good,m but it’s not great like the recent run of Season Pass Cards (Agent Venom, Surtur, Galacta, and Iron Patriot). At least, it’s not immediately great and meta-warping, and all of those other cards were. Instead, Sam is a good card that you need to do some specific things with to really make him work. A lot of that is due to Cap's Shield because it is an awkward card if you don’t draw Sam on curve (by Turn 2) or soon thereafter.
There are two real options for the Shield outside of just being a power enabler for Sam Wilson captain America, Kraven, and Captain America. The first of those is being a 1-drop enabler for cards like Cull Obsidian and Mockingbird. Guaranteeing Cull can be played at any location or making Mockingbird an automatic [5/10] are both valid, but they aren’t the reason for the deck I’m going to be discussing today.
Today’s deck is the obvious shell: Ongoing. Ongoing decks just didn’t really have two cost cards they wanted to play, and Sam does a good job at helping to fix that. In addition, Cap's Shield, even if you don’t draw Sam, is another target for Spectrum. Ongoing decks don’t have a Brood-like card that fills the board, so using Spectrum and getting another two power hit is useful. I don’t think this is necessarily a top meta deck or strategy, but it’s good for the first time in a long, long time.
This deck comes from our friend Ika, who you can find at Twitch.tv/Ika_MTS. Ika is one of the most consistent and creative deck builders in Marvel Snap (and his mustache is truly a sight to behold).
For the most part, this list plays like a simple Ongoing deck. Your general goal is to get to a reasonably big point total in one or two lanes then win with either Iron Man and Mystique or Spectrum. Getting big is relatively simple here—an on-curve Sam Wilson gets you a good bit of the way there. Speed goes tall and Mister Fantastic goes wide. Captain America really amplifies whatever lane he’s in, and any of those last three really benefit from Moonstone doubling up their abilities. Moonstone even makes an Ant Man lane a serious threat.
There are two other tricks to the list. The first is Anti-Venom and Luke Cage. Getting your power back from whatever you hit with the former works especially well here since the latter card is a really strong Ongoing card. And even if you don’t see Luke, Anti-Venom is likely to hit an Ongoing card, which means you get a lot of the benefit even without the power being restored. Anti-Venom is also just pretty big for a 4-Cost, and a [4/7] is a great card to play under an Iron Man.
The other trick is Ravonna Renslayer, which probably doesn’t do quite enough alone. She’s only got three targets in this deck: Iron Man, Mystique, and Mister Fantastic. However, even with only those, she’s a game-winning card if you see Moonstone. Moonstone on Ravonna makes Mister Fantastic and Mystique cost one and Iron Man cost three, which is obviously super strong; it allows for some shocking huge cube wins. And while that isn’t consistent, there aren’t many good 2-Cost Ongoing cards (as I mentioned before), so Ravonna offers another strong option.
Card Replacements
- Needs: Sam Wilson captain America, Moonstone, Anti-Venom
- Speed -> Punisher
- Ravonna is borderline necessary; try any other 2-Cost Ongoing or Psylocke
Turn by Turn
- Turn 1: Ant Man
- Turn 2: Sam Wilson > Ravonna Renslayer
- Turn 3: Luke Cage if Anti-Venom; if not, whichever 3-Cost Ongoing fits
- Turn 4: Moonstone if Ravonna, Captain America, or Mister Fantastic; Anti-Venom if not
- Turn 5: Iron Man or Anti-Venom; Moonstone is still fine here
- Turn 6: Either Iron Man and Mystique or Spectrum
