Xorn & Esme Cuckoo Decks: Weekly Meta Review & Bonus Challenge Guide

Curious how the latest release has fared? Looking for ideas to complete the weekend missions? You've come to the right place!

Each week, Esme Cuckoo becomes more of a specialist type of card, reducing her presence in top performing archetypes such as Silver Surfer, but becoming more important to decks looking to pull specific sequences, such as Mister Negative.

To end the New X-Men Season, Esme Cuckoo has mostly been played alongside the Mystique, Iron Man and Gorr the Butcher trio. If you manage to dodge annoying counter cards such as Mobius M. Mobius, they look like a great package to create tons of points.

Xorn unfortunately lived up to its “Elixir but for Move” reputation, not making it into any of the already existing Move decks at this point. The latest 2-Cost card has become a staple inclusion alongside Redwing, but the performance of these decks has barely changed since Xorn was added to the mix.

The OTA Balance Update will make the biggest impact to the meta this week, as the new release failed to provide any shakeup.

Xorn does not look good, and that might be a compliment. Indeed, whether we look at the wide range of the entire game, or specifically at the Infinite rank, Xorn does not post good results in either.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the already strong Move decks including Xorn in the build, more to test it than anything else, the new 2-cost would be completely forgettable.

Esme Cuckoo Performance

All Ranks

Esme Cuckoo keeps being a specialist, limited to decks in need of extra reliability, and running great targets to turn into a [3/4] card. In this metagame, this unfortunately means not being part of the top tier decks, which naturally drives Esme Cuckoo‘s stock down.

Still, the season pass card improves the decks she is a part of, as the Win Rate on Draw (42.7%) jumps a whopping 6.6% (49.3%) when the current season pass is played. Neither number is particularly impressive on its own, but they show how impactful Esme Cuckoo can be to certain archetypes.

Post-Release Score:

Rating: 6 out of 10.

Bonus Challenge Decks

These three archetypes, although quite similar in how they play, have posted great results for Esme Cuckoo over the last week. None of the cards included were affected by the OTA, so the equation is relatively the same : Avoid Enchantress and Mobius M. Mobius.

Xorn poses the opposite situation as Esme Cuckoo. Here, we won’t build around the 2-cost. Rather, simply find archetypes with strong results, and fit Xorn in to complete the missions.

Scream is that archetype at the moment, although Xorn is often best when we don’t draw it to be completely honest.

For a deck where Xorn feels more helpful, there is the Big Move deck, which uses Redwing and Dracula to leverage big 6-cost cards. There, Xorn synergizes with Vulture and Redwing. It is really a glorified Iron Fist to be honest, but at least, the deck feels like it uses Xorn.
