Strategy and General Tips
Asgard is back! This location is an interesting one as it doesn’t directly enable specific combinations but drawing cards inherently enables a lot of decks to be better, as more cards equals one of the following two outcomes:
- You get more options from your deck so you can play what is best for the game state.
- You can hit desired combinations more consistently.
Decks with Kitty Pryde
Decks with Jeff the Baby Land Shark
Asgard is in reality one of, if not the best, payoff effect for early fill plays and therefore should be always contested for by both sides in some way. Drawing from your deck ensures you get the payoff cards more often and also denying draws from your opponent is important. Bounce is one of the best ways to do this – you commit early with scaling cards and either bounce them or 5 or try to continue scaling them for the final turns.
Decks with Sunspot
Decks with Nebula
High Evolutionary decks can soft contest the location with the early 1 drops, forcing your opponent to compete for the lane and still have counter cards like Wave and Mobius M. Mobius for later turns. This is powerful as you are only committing a part of your gameplan to the location so if you play into a deck which is hard committing to Asgard you can change your plan and go after the other lanes easily.
Decks with Silver Surfer
Brood is one of the best cards at securing this location and combined with Forge, Silver Surfer and Patriot can not only secure the location, but invalidate opponent power played there and allow for more power later if required.
Decks with Darkhawk
Decks with Black Widow
Black Widow is the counter card here, dropping her on 4 denies the draw entirely and can synergise well with Darkhawk or junk strategies. So if all you want to do is counter the effect, there is a direction to go. However, this counter doesn’t completely counter the decks which are going for the draw so it may be more work than it is worth for your own gameplan to be based around this one.
Loki
SafetyBlade
To be different slightly this week, this Bast Bounce version cuts most the cards negatively impacted by Bast to try and attack the location early so we can draw into a full hand for the Loki turn. We can then Loki to buff The Collector prior to later turns made up of your opponent’s cards. So, we get to complete some of the Weekend Challenge Missions whilst playing a different version of Loki which can try to be ahead on the location.
Brood
SafetyBlade
Brood is another card which easily wins Asgard. On top of this the deck can easily add additional power to the location through Silver Surfer and Patriot and can control other locations with Alioth and Legion. Easily the number 1 recommendation for this location as the full Forge, Brood and Absorbing Man can be played before Asgard goes off.
Bounce
SafetyBlade
Bounce can attack the location and then bounce the cards with enough time to play the cards again. Winning the location also means you are more likely to draw Hit Monkey and Mysterio which are the win condition an you can play them on 5 if you are playing to the Wave decks. Very strong option during the Hot Location period.
High Evolutionary
SafetyBlade
Strong 1 drops challenge the location and demand an answer. If not, you are more likely to be able to get Mobius M. Mobius and Wave out on 5 and lock out the game. This is also one of the simpler directions during the location as the core Wave gameplan can invalidate spam decks which do win the location on you.
