Hey, this article’s coming out pretty late this time, but if you follow me on Twitter you probably already know the bundle isn’t very good value. But Bruce Banner is a pretty interesting card, so his variant in the bundle could be really handy for many players. Let’s go over the bundle’s numbers while it’s still available.
The bundle’s Total Tokens per Gold is 0.88, which is below 0.9 – the value I usually recommend buying bundles at. Still, it’s better than the typical 0.86 Tokens per Gold we often see in many weak bundles.
The price is a fairly average 4,000 Gold, and for that you also get a variant for Bruce Banner – one of the cards that’s actively played in a meta full of end-of-turn decks.
Comparison With Other Bundles
As you can see from the charts, the bundle’s Progress Value is very low regardless of which period we use for comparison. It’s a bad sign.
When we look at a period of more than 2 years, the bundle surprisingly sits right at the average for its price category. But that nice picture falls apart as soon as we compare it to bundles from the last six months – it immediately drops below average.
The most important metric (Total Tokens for Gold) is also weak. As we can see – Always Angry bundle is basically the same as the Relic of Annihilation bundle, just with a changed price and contents proportional to the price.
So even a seemingly decent 0.88 Total Tokens for Gold isn’t a great indicator. It’s fairly close to the middle by some comparison criteria, but still doesn’t keep up with it.
Since Tokens and Credits are distributed more or less evenly in the bundle, the bundle can’t boast a high Credits for Gold value – there are simply too few. So if you need Credits – this deal isn’t for you.
What if you don’t have Bruce Banner?
It’s worth noting, as usual, that having a Series 5 card variant strongly boosts the bundle’s value. But only if you don’t own Bruce Banner and only if you don’t want to wait for another bundle that also has a card you don’t own but has a higher base value.
You should also consider whether you even want to use Bruce Banner in your decks – we’ll talk about that in the next section.
Use cases for the Bruce Banner variant
Bruce Banner is surprisingly strong right now, thanks to synergy with other cards in End of Turn decks. That’s the main place you’ll see him and where he performs best. So if you like that kind of snowballing playstyle and you have most of the cards for that deck, Bruce Banner will be a great addition!
Another deck where Bruce Banner can be useful is the High Evo Warlock archetype. He doesn’t fit into the deck as naturally as he does in End of Turn, but he still supports the deck’s overall concept, often giving you 12 power for 2 energy.
Conclusion
That makes the bundle extremely good if you’re missing Bruce Banner in your collection. I won’t argue, that’s the usual conclusion for bundles that offer a card to people who don’t have it.
But if you evaluate the bundle purely in terms of value for a wide audience, there isn’t as much value as you’d hope. The impression is made worse by the mix of Credits and Tokens instead of just giving more Credits, which provide more value on their own.
So overall I’d rate the bundle 2 stars – it’s pretty weak even right now, even considering the risk you might not see good Booster Packs again. I’d save up for something better or spend Gold on limited modes, since that kind of investment usually pays off well. And if Booster Packs return in November in their best form – of course don’t pass them up and buy them for the hefty 133% Progress Value!
Also, don’t forget that you can evaluate this bundle in comparison to others using a variety of different criteria, utilizing the special chart on the dedicated Always Angry bundle page! Below is an updated guide on how to use our tools to evaluate bundles on your own.
