X-23, Daken, and Devil Dinosaur Decks: Weekend Challenge Mission Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Weekend Challenge Missions featuring X-23 and Daken! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Weekend Missions! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold! This week’s Weekend Challenges are:

Mission#Reward
Win with Devil Dinosaur starting in your deck10500 Credits
Win with Daken starting in your Deck8150 Gold
Win with X-23 starting in your Deck4300 Collector’s Tokens

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission. There will be Weekly Missions available for each new card release. The goal of Weekly Missions is to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens from new cards and subsidize their cost.

The token missions are expected to differ from week to week, depending on the card. For example, three wins for 100 Collector’s Tokens, four wins for 300, and five wins for 500, depending on the week (1,000 Collector’s Tokens is on the highest end).

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Daken or X-23.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Performance

X-23 Meta Stats

X-23 is an interesting one to analyze because it demonstrates how something can look over powered on paper and do something you would assume all decks in the archetype would want to do, but the simplest of downsides totally derails the card. What are these downsides? Is there hope for this card in the future? Let’s take a deeper look at the results and try to determine if X-23 is a good card or just likely to gather dust for the foreseeable future.

The major synergy is destroying the card. When the train gets rolling and you start destroying her turn after turn, the extra energy can be abused with cards like Nimrod and Deadpool. This is potentially one of the strongest plays in the game when it works; opponents can start to feel hopeless if they have no way to interact with what you are doing. Extra energy while doing something your deck wants to do is incredible. And even though we are about to go on to discuss all the ways the card can fail, the ceiling here is very high. This card still has the potential to be a major player over time.

Discard has found some niche uses for the card, but discarding X-23 is often worse than discarding Swarm or the Muramasa Shard. Exploration in this area is probably still worthwhile, but initial results have her firmly as a destroy card for now.

The downsides are really interesting to analyze. First, if we are primarily using the card in Destroy, it can brick very hard as soon as you run into specific opponents. Armor and Cosmo really make Destroy decks hard to pilot. Yes, when Destroy decks don’t run into these cards they are possibly the strongest synergy deck in the game. But as soon as they do, X-23 loses her effect and becomes an active liability. The way her Win Rate plummets when you filter further up the climb to Infinite before rising again post-Infinite indicates how easy it is to play decks with Armor to counter this.

This is where statistics can be misleading. Her overall performance in some decks can look really good, but when you filter for ranks 90 to 99 the decks become very hard to recommend. The tale is even worse when you look over to Conquest; most decks featuring the card start to drop under a 50% Win Rate. This first downside is largely related to the archetype and the meta, and depending on your experience with the game your mileage may vary. There is also plenty of opportunity for change outside of the card in order to make the archetype relevant, which changes how good she when included in those decks.

The other downsides are the real reason for caution here. X-23 never leaves the board. This can cause lots of awkward situations as you try to ramp into specific plays and she lands in the wrong spots. More importantly, shes one energy for two power and can easily cause you to lose priority, giving the opponent an opportunity for counter play. Without X-23, Destroy was able to get ahead of priority, which allowed for more control over when and how you destroy cards. The loss of tempo from X-23 combined with the fact that she doesn’t leave the board balances the card, but it also means that leaving her out of the deck might be the correct direction.

Overall, X-23 has a powerful effect and lots of synergy within the Destroy archetype (and some small potential with Discard). She allows you to make multiple plays you couldn’t do before. At the higher levels, she is easily targeted, and she might be impacting your Win Rate in more ways than one.

The card has infinite potential in the future, and it should remain a card to experiment with; however, deciding whether to purchase her depends heavily on your motivations. If you’re looking for game changing cards for your high Infinite and conquest games, X-23 is not the way to go. If you’re looking for a powerful piece for Destroy decks that allows you to feel over powered as you casually enjoy the Ladder, X-23 is an excellent choice.

So, how do we use X-23 and Daken to rack up wins and complete the Weekend Challenge Missions?

The most well rounded Destroy deck is arguably still Thanos. It allows for all the extra destroy targets via the Stones and it often gives you utility that you can’t find elsewhere. So, even though its a broken record at this point, try this build during the weekend if you can. It has enough counter play for specific decks and enough flexibility to be able to get the effects around counters. Wave is powerful here since you can often play her alongside Death and then finish off with Knull or another strong Turn 6 play.

When looking for the Deadpool deck that best fits the card, it is hard to ignore this build from Jeff Hoogland. This one allows for the most high roll potential with Deadpool, and it has a solid way of duplicating the power with Taskmaster. The extra energy always has something to do throughout the game, and this allows you to use X-23 and Deadpool effectively every turn.

If you don’t like Destroy and for some reason you have X-23, the other direction to try is Discard. This small Discard package in Sera Control allows for big numbers across all the lanes, and X-23 can even serve as a soft “backup” for Sera to allow for big swing turns. The ceiling isn’t as high as the pure Destroy direction, and its not as flexible as the Thanos direction, but it does allow you to play the card with less frustration at times.

To finish off the week, here is a Devil Dinosaur deck, with no Series 4 or 5 cards and all the Twitch Drop Variants can be played within this list. The plan is simple, Play The Collector, Devil Dinosaur, and add cards to your hand. Basic deck and still effective when your aiming for the win quest this weekend.

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
