4. Martyr – 49 points

At first look, this card is absolutely terrible. Who wants a card that will move to lose you the game? Isn’t the point of Marvel Snap to win? What a bad card.

Well, Martyr is probably not very good, but it’s also unlikely to be useless. [1/4] is a good rate, and adding two with Forge, Elsa Bloodstone, or Nico Minoru makes for pretty good stats. The problem is that a lot of Snap games come down to 50-50s where this card ensures you have no right choice. Moreover, it costs 3000 Collector’s Tokens or some Spotlight Caches. Never has a card more screamed to be released into an earlier Series. The stats aren’t even much of an outlier with Ant Man and Hawkeye matching the power.

  • Martyr is a card that I don’t know why anyone would want to own or even play. Just for stats maybe with Zero, but there are better cards. – KingofCanada
  • Now that it’s a [1/4] and not a [2/6], it has lost a large majority of its potential. – BitTwiddle
  • Only good for fill decks. Losing on purpose?? Need to make it so the card won’t move. – WolverThor
  • Gladiator is way better than Martyr. – Revis
  • I think it should be interesting, but a card like Martyr baffles me. You need to fill all your lanes to snag a win, but it will be good with Ka-Zar and Elsa Bloodstone for seven power on Turn 6 as a 1-drop. – Vision

3. Ms. Marvel – 103

While the non-Martyr cards were all close, it’s hard for me to imagine Ms. Marvel being worse than second when the dust settles. A potential [4/15] seems almost too good to be true, but [4/10] is a card you need to jump through hoops to get to, whether that be Sentry, Attuma, or Typhoid Mary. The downside on all of those essentially outpaces the stats entirely, while Ms. Marvel is, at worst, a [4/5], so basically a Stegron when you didn’t care to hit anything. That’s fantastic.

But don’t you have to play it in the central location? No. Remember what I said about the ability to get a [4/10] being great? If you can get it activated elsewhere, it’s still great. In the Bloodstone Season article, I talked about how Marvel Snap was really about stats, which makes both Elsa Bloodstone and Werewolf By Night premium cards. That’s also going to be true of Ms. Marvel, too.

  • Am I crazy for thinking Ms. Marvel is actually gonna be mid? It seems harder to pull off than Galactus… between junk cards, Spider-Man, Rogue, Magneto, etc… I just don’t see it. – Monroe Bieler
  • I see a ton of disrespect for this card, but any card that can generate this much power needs to be respected. Ms. Marvel into Professor X is going to cause a lot of rage this season… – PeacefulSea
  • Many doubt the potential of this card, but, personally, I find it extremely solid. In combination with Doctor Doom, you can put 10 power in each lane for 10 energy. That is, 10 energy for 30 power… It seems solid enough to me to be playable. – Bohe
  • A three card combo – minimum – that can be stopped with Enchantress or Rogue. – SafetyBlade
  • A 4-Cost for 15 power that isn’t super hard to trigger. I can already picture multiple decks running it. Also, it can be paired with Shadow King or another 2-Cost to keep in hand until Turn 6. Zabu still exists as well. – den

2. Gladiator – 116

I think this card will be bad. Very few creators seem to agree with me, but giving an opponent a free card – anything from The Infinaut to Darkhawk to Doctor Doom – just seems backbreaking. By definition, when it doesn’t work, it’s giving the opponent more than you (without resources). When it does work? It’s basically Yondu with the downside that the On Reveal could still have messed you up. You need to pack Shang-Chi with it, but having to Shang their card that they didn’t pay for when they likely have other threats isn’t a great deal either. I know I said stats are king, but it’s a [3/7], not a [3/12] or a [4/15]. [3/7] is very good, but Maximus and Wolfsbane aren’t, like, OP cards. What am I missing? I’d rather buy Martyr; at least it’s cheap.

  • Gladiator is either very strong or actually broken depending on how the ability triggers in regards to Ongoing and On Reveal abilities, and it is the card I expect to see Loki levels of play. – TeamCounterGaming
  • Gladiator RNG is going to be so fun – the rest of them are kinda boring to me. – Combat Snap
  • I think Gladiator is the most evergreen, and some healthy disruption that Snap needs at the moment. – Interrobang
  • Gladiator will often pull America Chavez, so America’s power level will be more impactful and this could lead to Second Dinner reducing it (as they have alluded to a Chavez nerf before). – DoctorOctillery
  • Gladiator’s ability looks cool, but most of the time it’s just Yondu’s (and when it’s not – the downside might be worse than Maximus’s, depending on how important it was to your opponent to play that card with specific timing). Of course, the power is great. – LaurenWhatever
  • Gladiator seems omega-mid. I’ve been wrong before. – Alex Graves
  • My Safety sense is tingling with this one. Pulling and potentially destroying key resources while junking up strategies is a lot. If you do pull something over, the power can be mitigated or known about on Turn 3 instead of winning other lanes. The power of pulling something they didn’t want pulled is high (with the downside of it representing deck thinning). – SafetyBlade
  • I’m most excited for Gladiator. It will fit into the Destroy archetype nicely and, while triggering an On Reveal is a potential downside, it has the opportunity to steal a kill and build your initiative going into later turns. – TheJollyRoger
  • But with huge power and the ability to buff it then have it do its thing. I’m thinking of Shuri on Wong or Forge on Wong. I mean, even just getting it to nine power wipes out most of your opponent’s deck.- SuperTechGod

1. Annihilus – 122

The votes for Annihilus are all over the place. Some people seem to think it’s a trap – that opponents will clog their own board first or Killmonger will render it useless. While Destroy is a concern, I tend to find if an opponent is filling up their entire board by Turn 5, I’m likely to win the game… and anything that can’t move over just dies! I think this is more likely to be broken than mid.

  • Annihilus Meta looking toxic. – Educated Collins
  • Junk decks will actually be good… for a few days before Destroy takes over the meta. I still think this card will have the most impact on the meta. – Paper
  • Annihilus is a card I’ve been looking forward to for a while; it makes me want to learn how to play clog more, and I think it adds a nice change of pace to the game. – Tuccrr
  • Ravonna Renslayer with Junk will make Annihilus and Martyr a problem. – Prashaun
