Super-Skrull Patriot Deck Guide – Rank 80 to Infinite – The Power Cosmic Season

Super-Skrull Patriot has carried me to infinite this season after being stuck in the mid 80s for around a week, which came as a big surprise.

Could this have been achieved with Kazar in the slot instead? Almost certainly.  But the Skrullmeister has a few tricks up his sleeve that will beat decks an ordinary Patriot deck never could, and I’d like to quickly break some of them down. 

General Guide 

• Overall plays like any other Patriot deck. Since several meta decks run late distruptive cards (Leech, Aero, Leader, Prof X etc.) this deck is designed to develop the board early with Mister Sinister and Brood rather than overrelying on a Turn 6 Ultron 
• Not many decks are running Enchantress atm, so playing out Patriot and Mystique on curve rather than Turn 6 works well and tends to outrun a lot of disruptive decks
• In general playing on curve is recommended, even if it feels like your plan might be a bit obvious

Super-Skrull X-Factor

Super-Skrull has won me games in ways I never thought possible until I started running him a few days ago, here’s a few examples:

• VS Patriot decks you get a free win as this variation never loses mirror matches, so long as you draw Skrull you will completely dominate your opponent
• Mister Negative is a tough matchup for standard Patriot, but Skrull wins you a lane if they’ve played Iron Man, and if you follow up with Mystique in another lane Skrull can almost win the game by himself
• VS Cerebro this one is a bit lucky to pull off, but if you’ve been curving out with Misty Knight, Mister Sinister and Brood you can steal their Cerebro, and if you find a Mystique followup you beat them with their own win condition

There’s also a lot of smaller ways he can make himself useful, like copying Cosmo to disrupt Silver Surfer decks, taking Devil Dino (both if theyve played mystique) etc.

Conclusion

Skrull brings a lot of upside and surprise win conditions to the Patriot shell, but there will also be many games where he does nothing and you wish you had run a more consistent card in his place. Luckily for you, whenever this happens he’s also able to fill a moral support role, grinning up at you from your hand as you play out the standard Patriot gameplan. Overall makes for a super fun variation on the formula!
