Snap Judgments Deck of the Day: Meta Move!

Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. Check out the video for a verbal explanation of this and three other new decks.

Yesterday, we got a whopping FOUR new cards… not only the expected Series 5 Hydra Stomper, but three new Series 4 cards – Fan Fei, Batroc, and Topaz. Let’s talk(briefly) about all of these.

Batroc is another card that scales off of move, and while this won’t always happen, he’s a 1-12 with perfect hits. That seems hard to do, but all that’s really needed is Batroc on 1 and Sam Wilson on 2. Add in some Kraven and you get some truly exceptional scaling, even if Batroc ends up more like a 1-8, that’s one of the best one-cost cards in the game. He’s also pretty darn good with Silk and Hydra Stomper, all of which now fit into the Scream shell, so if you like any of that, Batroc is must own. He is a fairly high skill cap card though, as, especially in the endgame, it can be hard to control where he ends up, and playing a last turn move card for him to follow can be dangerous in terms of spacing. This will take practice, but he’s too much power for it to not be worthwhile.

He’s just really good power – nothing fancy. Rhino showed that you can just play a generic 3-6 when there’s enough extra power in the deck to make it more useful, and Hydra Stomper is that. I’ve seen him at 20-Power in games, giving him a huge delta of power for your opponent to deal with. Silk, Batroc, and Sam Wilson are his best friends right now, but he’s still great in Heimdall move with Topaz (more soon) or random move Silver Surfer decks, which are really coming into their own with two moving threes thanks to Topaz.

Topaz is my favorite of these cards so far, as she’s an incredible enabler. In smaller move decks or move Silver Surfer, she acts almost as a second Madame Web, and is even stronger if you can play her in a corner and Madame Web mid. It seems like she’d be hard to use since filling her lane is a challenge, but because you can still regularly play mid, that’s very easy to fill, and she ends up just being a very strong enabler. Move Surfer as an archetype exists now on her back, and of all the cards released, she’s the only one that made a new deck. She’s so good that she’s even made Hercules playable!

Fan Fei is the one standard move Heimdall only card, but she’s a monster in that deck. Let’s talk about her in our deck of the day.

Topaz is in this deck, but she should probably just be Arana. I won a lot with this and literally never played her.

However, Fan Fei is amazing. Cloak is secretly the best card in classic move decks. On turn 5, he allows you to set up for Heimdall, buff movers, and scale Kraven out of control. He also adds a “Where will power go?” mind game to the game that steals cubes. Fan Fei, because she is Activate, does the same thing.

You can play her on 4 middle and use her as Cloak. You can play her on 4 left and still play Cloak on 5. You can Heimdall cards into her then Activate them out of the way. You can activate on turn 6 and play other scalers then, avoiding priority and Shang Chi. She’s incredible.

The benefit of this over bounce move (outside of being way easier to play), to me, is that if you draw fewer movers, Kraven can cover the difference. Both Cloak and Fan Fei can be +6 to Kraven, though Cloak can be more pending what your opponent does. Heimdall is also a very easy potential +8, and there are all sorts of other potential smaller bumps throughout the game. It’s not unusual to see a 17+ power Kraven. He’s the fourth move scaler this deck needed.

Card Replacements

  1. Twitter.com/ShangEnjoyer
  2. Needs: Madame Web
  3. Topaz, Fan Fei -> Alioth, Arana, Hydra Stomper
  4. Topaz is almost certainly better as Arana.

Turn by Turn

  1. Turn 1: Pass.
  2. Turn 2: Web > Kraven = Fist for Vulture
  3. Turn 3: Vulture/Torch moved or on Web.  Cosmo is fine.
  4. Turn 4: Fan Fei on a pile > Move
  5. Turn 5: Cloak right/Mid pending Fan Fei and Cosmo/Dagger/Vulture. Fan Fei
  6. Turn 6: Heimdall > Smaller movers and Cosmo

I should be on Stream today at around 3pm EST, so stop by for new card testing if you’re free!
