Sleeper Decks of the Week – Cull Obsidian in Everything, Even the Best Deck!

Check out the best Marvel Snap decks in this column before they become popular in the meta! There are a lot of awesome decks waiting to be discovered that can take your opponent's Cubes by surprise!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper Decks this week. In addition to the podcast (this week’s episode has us getting ready for the new season and talking datamines with GunnyT and Bohe!), I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (ahem Twitter and the various Marvel Snap sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices.

Remember: Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out!

Would you like to compete in a Marvel Snap League with your favorite content creators? Check this out!

Cull Obsidian Is AMAZING

Cull Obsidian, like Iron Lad and Jeff the Baby Land Shark, is a card that fits in nearly every shell. As such, the card is a must-own. The best shells to play it in can be found below!

Deck Thoughts:
Our own genius deck builder SafetyBlade took this shell by our friend Docty and added Cull Obsidian. It now has the power to compete with basically everything.

The early turns here are all set up. You’ll want to drop a Werewolf By Night early, but it’s largely about the disruption and making sure Zabu is set up by the last turn. If that’s the case, a Turn 5 Black Swan will allow you to play all of your ones for free, which leads to a huge Werewolf By Night along with Cull Obsidian (a [3/10] with Zabu) AND Shang-Chi or Enchantress to ruin the opponent’s life. This is truly explosive.

The Cull version of the deck is far superior to any other. Nico Minoru is a requirement here, but I run The Hood over Spider-Ham. You’ll need Black Swan, Zabu, and Werewolf By Night, as well.

Deck Thoughts:
Tuccrr and I brewed for Cull on his stream Monday night, and we came up with this beast of a deck. You can find gameplay for it on Tuccrr’s YouTube channel.

Kitty Pryde is amazing in this one because it’s able to be pumped by Forge, Hulkbuster, Nico Minoru, and Shuri, leading to it outputing a wild amount of power. Of course, this deck doesn’t need Kitty to win – it can with the classic Red Skull or Vision into Taskmaster, or just play big cards (Forge into Gladiator into Cull into a last turn Shuri+Skaar. There’s an absurd amount of power here that most decks struggle to keep up with!

Gladiator and Cull are requirements here, but you can try (another Series 5 card, sorry) Elsa Bloodstone for one of those or Nico Minoru. There’s not really any other viable replacement. You can’t replace Kitty Pryde at all, but can try She-Hulk for Skaar.

Deck Thoughts:
GunnyT’s Original Big Dumb Idiot list was featured by Regis Killbin, Dekkster, and Jeff Hoogland. Cull offered the deck a new tool, so GunnyT took advantage.

Cull Obsidian is just a better card than Warpath, and so it has been replaced in the deck. Echo offers some protection from huge Ongoing abilities, whether that be full The Living Tribunal decks or annoying Iron Man plays, and that replaces Quake. The rest of the deck is simple: play big power on curve, get Skaar to two, and end the game with Skaar, Maximus, and Armor in a sort of super-powered Doctor Doom play. The Maximus makes Ronan the Accuser even better, and, when you miss, well, Blob cleans up.

You need Skaar, but you can try Magneto over Blob. Cull can be Warpath again, and Echo would go back to Quake. You still want Forge to buff the irreplaceable Gladiator.

Deck Thoughts:
Darkhawk is a deck that always wants a ton of 4-Cost cards. Zabu lets you play a 4-Cost and a 1-Cost on Turn 4, so Cull fits pretty perfectly into the decks curve.

That’s the gist here. This is a core Zabu deck, and you use the disruptive Darkhawk package to frustrate the opponent and blank draws while setting up huge tall power with Darkhawk and Cull Obsidian. The power going wide is just as impressive here, as Doctor Doom, Ms. Marvel, and Omega Red are absurd in tandem; that’s an extra 13 power in the weakest lane if you can win with Omega Red! Armor protects you from nonsense beating your early Cull, and the rest is just points.

You can try Shang-Chi for Ms. Marvel, but that’s a huge loss. Cull is required for this version, and Nebula can be nearly any good 1-Cost card; Iceman is always a good fit. Darkhawk is needed, but Jubilee can replace Iron Lad.

Deck Thoughts:
Top-of-ladder player EvaZord has this hard counter to Thanos!

There are two ways to dominate with this one. With Cull and Zabu in the deck, this can just drop Cull, Sentry, and Annihilus to output a ton of power, and then use Typhoid Mary to avoid Shang-Chi beating your huge power plays. The other real choice here is Debrii, who, with Typhoid Mary or Hazmat, lets you send a ton of Rocks over with Annihilus. This doesn’t matter in every game, but in a deck like Thanos where board space is precious? It’s backbreaking.

This deck needs Cull and Annihilus. The rest is Series 3.

The Best Deck

I know it’s not a sleeper deck, but it’s worth looking at the top of Infinite Ladder to see what’s being played. In this case, the best deck is still Thanos.

Deck Thoughts:
We’ve all seen variations on this deck before. The video linked in the title has a full history of credits for who developed it.

The deck is simple. You use Lockjaw to cheat out big cards, or you use Psylocke and Time Stone to do the same. The Stones offer draws and early game power without taking up precious deck slots, and so Thanos is the king of the meta.

This deck wants Cull Obsidian if you have it, and there are two potential cuts to fit the card. You can cut Leech, a card that can be great when it pops out of Lockjaw but is otherwise often too big of a tempo hit, or you can cut Jeff the Baby Land Shark. Jeff gives you a fix for numerous location issues that Thanos otherwise has. Personally, I cut Jeff for Cull. The location fixing is great, but one of the other top decks is Hela Lockjaw, and Leech blanks the card Hela. That seems pretty damn good to me.

You need Thanos here. Skaar can be She-Hulk, while Caiera can be replaced with Armor. Psylocke vs. Wave is still a question, so if you have neither Cull nor Jeff, run both. Blob is a Thanos must.

Supergiant is Legit

Supergiant was released last week, and, a week in, it doesn’t feel close to being solved! Here’s two more unique ways to play the card.

Deck Thoughts:
RegisKillbin is probably the biggest name in the card-gaming space of Marvel Snap, and this deck is brilliant.

The play here is so simple as to nearly defy reason. First, you drop Supergiant, then Taskmaster, and finally Blob. With so many high-powered cards in the deck, Blob often ends up in the 30s in power. Taskmaster reveals and copies that, and then, well, you win. The backup plan is a simple ramp with Electro and Wave. With so many big cards, that wins plenty, too.

The only high series cards here are the combo you need.

Deck Thoughts:
Another huge player, MegaMogwai, recently returned to Snap, and his brews have been a joy!

Valkyrie and Annihilus are the key to this deck, and they work amazingly with or without Supergiant. Sentry puts a -10 power card on the opponent’s side that you’d like to get rid of. Opponents can fill that lane, leaving you net neutral, but Stegron, Elektra, and Polaris can make space for you. Those cards, along with the Demon, Ant Man, and Juggernaut can make you win a Valkyrie lane. Supergiant makes this happen at the end of the game, which leaves the opponent with no recourse. It’s great!

You need Annihilus and Supergiant for this!

Loki might not be the scourge of the meta anymore, but Loki decks are still awesome.

Deck Thoughts:
Spyro is a top streamer who competes near the top of Infinite Ladder. He built this version of Loki to steal games.

The “steal game” engine isn’t just regular Loki like usual. Quinjet, Snowguard, Zabu, and Sentinel are just regular good cards. The control piece with Shang-Chi or Cosmo isn’t really here to scam, either. No, the scam here is Juggernaut stealing Omega Red lanes. After a Devil Dinosaur has claimed a lane, adding three more power to every lane with Omega Red is backbreaking – especially if it’s eight more with Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel is required here, as are Zabu and Loki. You can try Maria Hill for Snowguard.

Deck Thoughts:
I couldn’t decide what to hit Infinite with, so I went with this deck that Sanutora finished in the Top 4 of the Lamby Open with. As I was playing it, I asked Eva what he was climbing with and he sent me the same deck with Nico Minoru over Maria Hill, and yeah, that’s probably better.

This deck is basically all in on Loki with only some tech to really win without Loki. However, Loki is still pretty insane, and being able to play Loki and still have tech cards will win. Since this is all in on Loki, I also added Iron Lad for an extra Loki hit. That’s it, that’s the deck. It just dominated its way to Infinite.

Loki is needed. Ms. Marvel can be Omega Red, and Iron Lad can be Jubilee (which is, in some ways, better). Zabu is a requirement, too, though Mirage can be Sentinel. Finally, Snowguard can be Nico Minoru, but that probably doesn’t help, sorry!
