Best Silver Surfer First Steps Decks and Strategy Guide

Read about the new card's strengths and weaknesses and find some decks to try it out on day 1 in here!

Silver Surfer First Steps is the Premium Season Pass card for the August 2025 Season, Heralds of Galactus. It is a 3-Cost, 4 Power card that reads: End of Turn: If you’re winning this location with an On Reveal card, copy its text.

Premium Season Pass cards can only be obtained through purchasing the Premium Season Pass they are attached to when they release. At the end of their season, Season Pass cards become Series 4, and can be purchased for 3,000 Collector’s Tokens from the Token Shop as part of the daily rotation. They will be also be included in the Seasonal Series 4 Snap Pack during the two seasons following their release.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Marvel Snap is mostly made of On Reveal cards. If you think about, almost every synergy in the game except for Ongoing, Activate or End of Turn cards are On Reveal.

Destroy is On Reveal, Discard is On Reveal, Move has plenty of On Reveal cards. Mill, Iron Hand, Thanos, Bounce, Good Cards… Name any archetype, it is more likely an On Reveal synergy than anything else in the game.

This means the new Silver Surfer First Steps has a wide range of possible pairings. Let’s cover the scariest ones:

I could have listed a few others, but these four have been solid performers for a while, so they will likely convey my idea the best : Silver Surfer First Steps into a powerful 4-cost is too scary for me to not say the Premium season pass card will be anything short of a menace.

With Gwenpool, we gave our hand a bonus 12 power, while Wiccan lets us play with 4 extra energy for the remainder of the game. That is always a snap into a quick retreat in my book.

If we take a look at the 2-cost cards, we also find plenty of worthy targets. In particular, I feel like disruptive cards will be the most impactful. Alongside Surge, obviously.
Here, we simply play our 2-cost on an empty location. From there, if the opponent didn’t play on that specific spot, we should have 6 or 7 points next turn, almost guaranteeing Silver Surfer First Steps will trigger.

Only a few cards can match that power on turn three : Groot, Starbrand and Gladiator. Red Guardian and Cosmo also work as they would deny the On Reveal ability from being copied.

We find great abilities to copy at every cost really. Yondu or Silver Sable, Phastos or Esme Cuckoo, Sandman or Blink… Silver Surfer First Steps will force the opponent to play around it the entire game, constantly checking for powerful On Reveal cards. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest tell a card is about to be dominant : The opponent needs to keep it in mind at all times, and adapt its play patterns because of it.

Yes, all times, even if I don’t play the card in my deck. For example, whenever you see Surge played on turn two, you will feel forced to play on that location to prevent Silver Surfer First Steps from becoming a second Surge.

Sure, we can pack Cosmo or Red Guardian, or just tell ourselves Gladiator is really popular at the moment, so we have a big 3-cost to make sure Silver Surfer First Steps doesn’t win the location on turn three. Still, the existence of Silver Surfer First Steps impacted which cards you put in your deck. Its simple presence in the Marvel Snap collection made you think whether you should adapt to it.

The Verdict: Should You Buy Silver Surfer First Steps?

Last season, the season pass Mister Fantastic First Steps was clearly the best card, although Fantasticar ended up being fantastic as well. This season, I feel the premium season pass card Silver Surfer First Steps is a gem compared to Galactus First Steps.

I hope I’m wrong. Yet, the pattern of Silver Surfer First Steps followed by a strong 4-cost On Reveal card is a scary perspective, while the synergy with Surge is enough for me to run Cosmo in all my decks.

Pre-Release Score:

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Silver Surfer First Steps Decks

Because the On Reveal keyword covers most of Marvel Snap, Silver Surfer First Steps feels playable in a ton of different decks. I expect Surge, Gwenpool and Wiccan to make the card absolutely bonkers, but plenty of other archetypes should also benefit from its presence.

Conclusion

Multiple powerful cards have released during the Fantastic 4 season, with Fantasticar and Mister Fantastic First Steps only becoming available to the masses this week.
Then, I don’t think Silver Surfer First Steps is a necessity to play a powerful deck in Marvel Snap.

However, I do expect the card to produce some fireworks, and represent a way for multiple archetype to power-up their On Reveal synergy. In my opinion, it is definitely the best card to release amongst the five we get to kick off the new Heralds of Galactus season.

I hope this review of the new card was helpful. You can find everyone on the Marvel Snap Zone team in our community discord to have a chat or ask any questions.
