Quantum Tunnel Featured Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

This week's Marvel Snap Featured Location is Quantum Tunnel: When you play a card here, swap it with a card in your deck. Here's our proposed strategy, with the best cards and decks that you can try (including for Pool 1 and Pool 2 players) for the next 48 hours!

This week’s Marvel Snap Featured Location is Quantum Tunnel: When you play a card here, swap it with a card in your deck. This is a brand new location for Marvel Snap’s February 2023 Into the Quantum Realm Season, now added to the Location pool. For the next 48 hours, it will show up 40% more frequently in games during this feature period. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are!

What is Quantum Tunnel?

Quantum Tunnel

Well, it’s a tunnel which leads to the Quantum Realm. It does this by being an interdimensional gateway which transports the traveller to the Quantum Realm. The Quantum Realm itself is actually the cinematic version of Marvel Comic’s Microverse, which are actually different planes of existence, or parallel universes, which were entered by shrinking down so small you fall through artificially created nexus into the other universe (comic book science is wild).

Strategy

So this is Lockjaw in a location. The obvious to play into the location is to play a deck which allows for Lockjaw effects naturally, and have the chance to allow the location to draw you a second Lockjaw. This will then allow you to consistently play your cards into the location or Lockjaw itself to get your payoff cards.

The problem is counterplay. We have Leech to turn off effects in hand, but this may have minimal impact (as this effect puts the cards directly onto the board). Cosmo on the location will go back into your deck before it does anything. So we can use On Reveal counters but we need them to cycle back into your deck and replace themselves with cards that still win the lane.

Storm, Scarlet Witch, and Rhino could be valuable if you’re playing something which doesn’t play directly into the location to turn the effect off.

Although primary consideration for this article will be Lockjaw decks as they are already effective and get a large boost from the location, other decks may be effective and worth exploring.

For example, Galactus may be the best counter to the location. You will know confidently where Lockjaw opponents are playing into allowing you to plan your Galactus plays much more consistently as your opponent can’t play Cosmo on the location. There will be little they can do about it.

Cards and Deck Ideas

The best versions of these lists are starting to be built with Series 4 and 5 cards. Where they are not the required for the strategy I will include a note on what cards to swap in.

Thanos

This deck is already starting to emerge as a powerful deck in the meta without the location. This location plays perfectly with the game plan for this deck. Preferably, we want to cycle our 1 energy Infinity Stones into Lockjaw and now we have three shots of Lockjaw appearing on board without having to draw him from the larger deck. Pair this with cards which are great to play early such as Blue Marvel and Leech, and you have proactive outcomes that can come from the Lockjaw or the Quantum Tunnel as well as some counterplay.

There is room to swap around the top end of this deck, but one card I do not recommend cutting is actually Devil Dinosaur. This allows you to play Devil Dinosaur on one lane on turn 5, whilst allowing for miracle style Lockjaw turn on 6 with the Stones, refilling your hand and hopefully winning the other location.

Electro

This is a Series 3 friendly Lockjaw list which can be adjusted to include Electro as a potential additional high roll. There is a risk you pull Electro back with Lockjaw or the location, but the curve is high enough that there are gameplans only drawing Electro. Electro on 3 means you can play a 5 drop on 4, Doctor Doom on 5 and then Odin on 6. We also look to include an On Reveal tech card, in this case Shang-Chi, as a way to reduce power on your opponent’s lanes.

Hela

The Hela Lockjaw deck may also have its stock rise during the location. Extra chances to cycle and less requirement on draws should lead to a slightly more consistent high roll deck. There are versions which include Invisible Woman but this version ditches this plan in favour of setting up for big Lockjaw rotations leading directly into Hela or just pushing a lot of power.

Play Morbius early, aim to Colleen Wing the Swarm, then use your 0 energy Swarms and other discard effects into Lockjaw on turns 5 and 6.

Discard

Finally, Discard Lockjaw will appreciate the chance at a second Lockjaw. Going with Gambit over Moon Knight in this build to give us some ways to interact with the opponent’s board as the hand will be less important if we are facing other decks playing for the location.

What You Should Play

If you have the cards, Thanos Lockjaw decks should get the largest boost from the location. The Infinity Stones are excellent cycle cards adding effects you want into the deck and allowing for greedy topend cards.

This On Reveal deck carries more cards we would be happy pulling from the tunnel whilst still being functional without the location. This allows you to use the effect for additional value when it comes up and when it doesn’t, play for tempo and try to finish with White Tiger into Odin.

In Series 2 we can make significant upgrades adding The Infinaut, Vision, Iceman and Scorpion to add more flexibility and disruption.
